Title: Airbus A380 in the sky for the first time.
Post by: fastson on April 27, 2005, 07:59:30 AM

It was quite unreal seeing such a huge aircraft lift off (it filled most of the runway)
The design of the front end of the plane looks a lot like the aircrafts in the Donald Duck comic books. :D

Very cool, I hope this will be a winner for Airbus. China seems to like it a lot (Airbus even changed the name of the model to satisfy the Chinese!)

Crash?
Yeah, I\'d not want to see a A380 with 800 people coming crashing down.

I like how the pilots wore parachutes and had a rail to an escape hatch during the flight... I wouldn\'t be too confident in this giant yet.

So yea I don\'t think Ive ever been in an Airbus.  How do they fare quality-wise up agaisnt Boeing?

Being that Airbus is Euro I\'d imagine it has more amenities and such. (like comparing BMW vs General Motors)

Actually the first trip that plane took I think it crashed and the crew died.  Not positive, but I think they mentioned that on the radio the other day.

They also had several pilots on the radio as well and they were completely dihing on airbus and how much better boeing was to fly.  Question for Ddaryl really.  Although he hasn\'t been around for quite some time.

Bullshit. You must be hallucinating. At least give me a credible source, because I haven\'t heard ANYTHING about any such thing.

Lol, that must have been from the same \'reliable\' source? I can\'t say anything about the technical stuff since I don\'t know anything about it, but here\'s what the test pilot said:

Jacques Rosay, who flew the A380 during take-off, said the plane behaved "immaculately" and that as a pilot "you handle it like you handle a bicycle". (taken from BBC News)

If you are a pilot who likes Boeing you are going to talk poorly about airbus.  Do you really think the pilot of the 380 would get out of th eplane and say, "Wasn\'t bad, but the 777 I flew last week handled better?"

And like i said before.  I heard that stuff on the radio.  No clue if it\'s true.

Of course not. But that\'s why I included his statements as well - for balance.

You should write a letter to that radio and complain because they\'re full of BS.

Boeing is back in the saddle with 787. Airbus is struggling to get enough orders.

On top of this the A380 will require runway and airport modification. Who\'s going to fund it ? Boeing had to help fund airports to be capable of utilizing the 747.

The 787 can fly to any place on the planet on one tank of fuel, it will save airlines alot of money in  fuel savings. it is made with composites, not aluminum as will all planes in the future.

On top of this I am a Boeing employee who is waiting to be called back. A few more orders and I\'ll be back.

Airbus had a nice run, but the A380 will cause them headaches and put Boeing back as the leader of commercial aircraft.

Just safety precautions. I mean, this is the first time something this big is flying. If I was the pilot, I too would like all these safety contraptions onboard until I figured out how safe it was.

Sounds like this French airplane may not even take off the ground for a bit longer. And it\'s losing more customers.

Quote
PARIS - FedEx Corp. said Tuesday it has canceled its order for 10 Airbus A380 jets, the new jumbo double-decker plane that has been dogged by numerous delays.

The company\'s FedEx Express unit has ordered 15 Boeing Co. 777 freighters and taken options on an additional 15, FedEx said in a news release. The company cited Airbus\' production delays as the reason for the decision.

Airbus regrets the decision by FedEx, company spokeswoman Barbara Kracht said, "but we understand their need to urgently address their capacity growth."

Airbus recently doubled the production delay for the A380 jet to two years. To streamline development and manufacturing, Airbus said Monday it will slash the number of suppliers it uses from 3,000 to 500.

FedEx did not immediately return a call for comment.

Boeing said delivery of its aircraft to FedEx Express will begin in 2009.

"We\'re looking forward to working with FedEx on this new chapter in our relationship," said Ray Conner, vice president of sales for the Americas for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

Japanese cars are still far more relaible than Euro cars.

VW will cost more to maintain than it\'s initial cost within 10 years.

Interesting........

"This question does not have a straightforward answer. The history of the automobile is very rich and dates back to the 15th century when Leonardo da Vinci was creating designs and models for transport vehicles.

There are many different types of automobiles - steam, electric, and gasoline - as well as countless styles. Exactly who invented the automobile is a matter of opinion. If we had to give credit to one inventor, it would probably be Karl Benz from Germany. Many suggest that he created the first true automobile in 1885/1886"

So it seems there is no real concrete answer to this. Strange how many of us think ford was the inventor if internal combustion automobiles. oh well learn something new everyday.

Of course, i was only kidding too ; it\'s just sad to see that a thread about airplanes is already infected by Gigashadow\'s USA vs Europe thingy on page 1.

With such a mentality, yeah no wonder you\'re gonna \'think\' yourself to some isolated island.

whenever we can get rid of the current government, we\'ll probably lower the millitary budget  to a joke! But keep in mind one thing. Canada may be huge in surface, we are still just shy 30 millions in population. Which is less then 1/10 of the U.S  citizen for about the same surface.

No. American auto parts are cheap. That\'s why they tend to have more rebuilt engines than Japanese and Euro cars.

Well there you have it. You can\'t compare imports to domestic cars.

American cars are more expensive to own over here, because they\'re ... dun dun dun... imports.

They have no right to be expensive. Ship that garbage back to the US. Unless it\'s a  truck, American cars suck (except for the Corvette).

And BTW....90% of the Japanese cars sold in the US are built here in the US.
