Title: help with 2 ipods, one computer
Post by: kopking on April 29, 2005, 10:19:40 AM
ok, i have bought a ipod, 20gb, but will be using it on a computer, that already has a ipod mini getting used on it.

i want to make 2 different libaries on it, as    want different music to the other user...

i have made to acounts on the com, but not two ipod accounts.

when the ipod mini is plugged in, it reconises it straight away, and brings i tunes up, when i plug mine in nothing happens........... i dont know what to do..

im not sure mine has even been formatted yet, as it doesnt see my ipod when i plug it in, then if i put the disc in, when it says plug ipod in, then press format, well the bar goes up but never stops, and goes over again. you know the one where you are loading stuff....

no one is my bosses, and i have just bought one, but i cant even get the ipod to get formatted, his works fine, but mine, well this is the second one i have tried, sometimes when you attach the usb cable, and the ipod, it says mass storage device malfunction, and i spent like 2 hours in the help bit trying to work out what was up.

i have now tried the second, as i took the first one back, it occasionly gets up the mass usb storage....... etc..

ive tried it with the disc in, and it says please attach your ipod now, i do that, then it says it need to check if it needs formatting, i do that, the first time it had a sort of loading screen, but above the blue bar had waiting for ipod, i waited like 10 mins, the bar went up, when it got to 100% it just started over again, i tried this again, it did not have the waiting for ipod bit, but the same thing with the loading screen, as it got to 100% it went down to 0...and over and over again..

if not, any idea where i can go for help, i tried the apple help line, was on it for like 10 mins, no awnser!

other than that i am not to bad

Hey koppy ol buddy ol pal!

1) How to reset your ipod (http://www.werty.net/2004/06/reset-ipod.html)

2) Try updating your ipod\'s firmware here (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/)

3) Put in the cd-rom that came with the ipod and try formatting again.  Maybe using a different computer.

Steps 2 & 3 may be in opposite order, unsure if you can update an ipod that hasn\'t been formatted.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.

OK, DONE STEP 1, THOUGTH IT BE BETTER TO TRY STEP 3 NEXT, THEN IF THIS DONT WORK, ILL DO STEP 2 THEN STEP 3.

AT THE MO, IT IS SAYING " YOUR IPOD IS BEING RESET. PLEASE WAIT" AND THE LITTLE BLUE SQUARES FOR LOADING ARE COMING UP, BUT THIS IS ALREADY REACHED THE TOP AND STARTED AGAIN THREE TIMES, MY IPOD DID HAVE DO NOT DICONNECT, BUT NOW SAYS CHARGING.

ALSO ABOVE THE BLUE BAR IT SAYS WAITING FOR IPOD, IS THIS NORMAL?

5 TIMES NOW........... HMMMMMM, ILL TRY FORMATTING IN ON ANOTHER COM..

ALSO I PUT THE DISC IN, PLUGGED THE IPOD IN WHEN IT ASKED, BUT I NOTICED IN MY START UP TRAY IT SAID, NEW HARDWARE FOUND, AND HAS BEEN INSTALLED READY FOR USE.....

WILL THAT DO ANYTHING??? ALSO MAYBE MY FIREWALL OR SOMETHING IS STOPPING IT?

um, maybe I\'m just stupid, but why don\'t you just create another XP user account and log into it for your 2nd Ipod?  Each user on XP should have his/her/retard own settings.  I\'m so retarded.
