Title: College goers / postgoers
Post by: square_marker on April 30, 2005, 08:07:01 AM
Did your university.... or community college use the .5 scale when grading?  MSU uses it and it is terrible.  Your grades can only be 4.0, 3.5, 3.0 etc.  Last semester I missed a 4.0 in CHEM by 2 points.  The class was out of 800 so in any other school I would have a 3.9 but not here, it\'s a 3.5  That knocked me out of the Dean\'s List by .04  .5 Scales suck!

We have:

A+ ... 4.0
A ... 4.0
A- ... 3.666
B+ ... 3.333
B ... 3.0
B- ... 2.666
C+ ... 2.333
C ... 2.0
C- ... 1.666
D+ ... 1.333
D ... 1.0
D- ... .0666
F ... 0

This scale isn\'t bad... but getting a 4.0 here is a really big f*cking deal... I personally shoot for over a 3.0 every semester because appropriately that\'s at least a \'B\' average which is pretty solid for this school... Getting a 4.0 though takes a lot of hard work, and I\'d personally be really happy if I snagged a 3.5

Last semester my grades were: A- , B+, B+, B, B- ... [3.2]

No .5\'s here.

If i wasnt being stupid I could have easily pulled a 4.0 but instead I have a 3.6 (3 A\'s 2 B\'s).

meh.

There goes my suma cum laude

I have all A\'s, and I do a LOT of fucking studying, with tutoring on the side. Gotta get my PhD sooner than later. I\'ll probably take a Masters/PhD program, but the workload may be insane.

My school just has a regular grading system...no weird ass crap.

Impossible here... We have a nice saying that goes:

"Sleep, Study, Fun

Choose two."

F*ck studying. :)

DAAP=no sleep

With that said, regular grading system and I\'m maintaining a 3.7 average.

haha I\'m a firm believer in swif\'s college plan.  Over a 3.0 GPA is pretty much unobtainable at this point though.  best part is i don\'t curr, I\'d do it all over again if I had to.  i can happily say college was and will probably always will my favorite time in my life :)

But to make evx happy if I was going for a master\'s/phd I\'d definitely change my gameplan.  I\'d probably even buy a pencil or something.

I can\'t do shit with a bachelors in architecture, so I\'m basically forced into a masters program from the start. Woo.....

So...work for S.O.M.!! I\'m sure you\'ll find a very lucrative career.

Working for S.O.M. is the equivalent of working for EA in the video game world.  As long as you don\'t mind selling your soul for corporate america, it\'s fine.  Either that or teach at Harvard....bastards make 300k a year teaching there.

300k a year wouldn\'t be bad. ;) However...selling your soul is.

Well, being that me, along with a shitload of other Freshman suck at getting aclimmated, my first semester blew. I\'m on Academic Probation, because I am awesome. This semester, if things go right this week in finals, I\'m looking at an A, 2 B\'s, and a C, so a 3.0 average isn\'t too bad considering what happened last semester :-P

Hey, I\'m trying...and I actually do study, believe it or not.

See Yuz.

I\'m not even allowed to get C\'s for the degree I\'m getting.

I\'m a freshman with absolutley no idea as to what I\'m getting into coursewise, so, meh. C\'s are alright at this point. Of course, if Finals go alright this week, then maybe I\'m not looking at C\'s, but who knows :)

See Yuz.

Meh...I have finals this week and the beginning of next.

As for not knowing what you want to do, you have your whole life to decide. And I don\'t mean that in a bad way. You can continue getting education and making your resume kick more ass with every passing year. ;)

Woo, I don\'t have Finals!  Booyah!

I just have to construct an 8 foot cube that represents a piece of music :(.

Gotta love having 2 of your 3 finals right off the bat...I\'m not quite sure if this is an advantage or a disadvantage. I guess we\'ll find out in a little over 3 hours if it was or not :-P

I got six weeks left of class. I just had to drop a class.
I had to focus more on this damn programming class.

3rd year to late for me to switch majors but computer science is boring me now. Too much damn programming.

I pretty much sucked my entire 4 years.  I had a lot of fun, but I had awful study habits, but fantastic drinking habits.  I don\'t know how I drank as much as I did.  I could never do that any more.  I ended college with the high 2\'s as a GPA.  I don\'t remember.  I really don\'t care.  No one has ever asked me what my GPA was in any job interview and I\'ve gotten every job I\'ve ever interviewed for.  Except now I work for myself.  I\'m an evil boss.

Back to the original question.

We had +\'s and -\'s, but I don\'t remember how much they were worth.

My brain is totally burnt out right now and I\'ve only started studying for one final.... I think I\'ve read 300 straight pages out of this damn textbook... Comprehensive finals = ghey.

Yeah I have never heard a job ask anyone what was their gpa in college.

I know a friend who is a PT who runs his own successful business.
I remember I was stressing over keeping my gpa. He told me c\'s get degress look at me. Young and successful.

This is the last night i study for finals this semester. Im kinda burnt out but I just found out that i got an A in a class that i thought i could get no better than a low B (hell yeah).

I dont know about this last one though. I KNOW i cant get an A in the class, and i wish i could see that pretty 4.0 for the semester but oh well. At least ill maintain my 3.6

OMG LORD NICON YOU STUPID DUMBASS! A 3.6 GPA!?!?!? NO EMPLOYER WILL EVER READ YOUR RESUME BECAUSE YOU HAVE A TINY 3.6! YOU\'LL NEVER GET A JOB AND DIE A SAD, MISERABLE AND LONELY DEATH IN THE STREET BECAUSE YOU ONLY GOT A 3.6. YOU MIGHT AS WELL WALK INTO A BURNING FURNACE, BECAUSE THAT 3.6 IS GOING TO SEND YOU STRAIGHT TO HELL.

I have high grades not only for my degree(s) that I\'m getting, but if I get a C, my Medical Insurance will get canceled, and I use it all the time. So I have a few motivating factors to get good grades. And like you said, you can lose your scholarship if your grades suck. And another thing...why would you want to pay so much damn money just to fail a class? Seems like a waste of time to me.

I know what you mean. It\'s especially hard when you get a class with one of those sh*tty ass teachers that everyone hates and doesn\'t know how to teach. The last medical bio class I had, there were all these straight A students studying to be doctors/nurses, and 2 people in the class got a B- <--- and that was the highest grade. I just barely scraped by with the B-, but I reported her (as well as the rest of the class) to the college. I hope she gets fired.

On top of her crappy teaching methods, and her tests that had questions that had no affiliation with the homework or textbook info, she had a heavy Hindu accent, and you couldn\'t understand her. And also, when you asked her a question, and she answered yes, she would also shake her head from left to right, and vice versa. You could never know if she meant yes or no....

Sorry for the rant.
