Microsoft
This is going to be Microsoft\'s E3. They will finally reveal the Xbox 360 and confirm it will be released in North American and Europe this Fall, and it will launch with no less than 20 games at launch with more to follow shortly. I\'m guessing the base model price, that is the games only console, will have a price point of $199-249, and the HD-included console will be $249-299.
Perfect Dark Zero will be the flagship title for launch, and Kameo will be at launch or shortly thereafter. Rare will confirm that there are no less than 5 other games in development. (They have already 100% confirmed that Banjo-Kazooie 3 is in development, but I would love to see something of it)
Xbox Live will get a major overhaul and a number of added features.
They\'ll emphasize that they will support the Xbox for another couple years.
I\'m guessing Bungie will start hyping up Halo 3, perhaps showing the next-gen model of Master Chief.
Sony
The PSP will be center stage.
I believe there\'s alot more going on with the PS3 than Sony has been letting on. I expect that they will announce a Spring 2006 launch in Japan with a North American launch in the Fall. There will be two different models of the console, one with extra multi-media functions and one that is a games only device. Many of the top tier Japanese developers will be boasting about their plans for the console. They will announce an online service.
I don\'t expect that everything will be revealed about PS3, but we\'ll know enough by the end of E3 to get a good feel as to where Sony is headed.
I hope, I hope, I hope that Naughty Dog and Insomniac at least tease us with something from their next gen titles.
Nintendo
Nintendo will reveal their ideas for the type of games that will be possible, and perhaps we\'ll get a glimpse of the console itself and maybe a few demos. They\'ll keep most of it close to their chest, and maybe reveal the rest behind closed doors.
They\'ll talk of their next gen plans about going online, especially pushing that of the DS. The DS, I expect, will be center stage, and a new model Gameboy with MP3, MPEG3, and MPEG4 capabilities will be shown.
I wouldn\'t be totally surprised to hear them talk of their next-generation Gameboy, at the very least how it will tie in the Revolution. I\'ll be shocked if it\'s shown.

they\'ll show how u can use the psp as and extra controller w/ the ps3 and view the ps3 game on the psp\'s screen as u play.

Has that been talked about already?
That would be really neat.
-
i predict alot of talk, and hype
did i mention the hype?
-
and talk?
-
don\'t forget hype
-
also hyped-up talk
-
and talked up hype...
-
lol.

I predict Xbox 2 will be annouced available late November for the US, spring/summer 06 for Europe. I couldn\'t care less about Japan.
Also pricing will start at $299 at least.
-
Hype might not be such a bad thing this time :
Current consoles are on their last legs and alot of ppl already getting bored with teh sequels on marginally better looking game engines.
Whatever the next gen tech is, there is still alot of uncertainty about how the gaming public will react (in sales/pre-orders) to next gen games. Hype might push publishers a bit more willingly to keep the launch price points acceptable. I don\'t think most of us are in favour of EA\'s economic business/publishing model...
Especially for those gamers who also invested in an expensive videocard in the last 6 to 12 months, next gen pricepoints
are on E3\'s priority list.

i just cant see how it will get better, if the jump is from ps1 gfx to ps2 gfx in difference, i cant imagine how good it will look.

I know how you feel.
Im still kinda working that out in my head. I have very little knowledge of what to expect. But if they look like the screens posted recently on the forums then i think ill be happy.

In less than 3 weeks you can relieve the "tension"...
-
I don\'t expect to be impressed. Plain and simple.

That\'s the best way to think about it. Then you won\'t be disappointed.

Usually thats the case with me, but currently i find it difficult to put myself in that mindset.
-
Yeah...there\'s so much hype circulating around, and I always end up disappointed. I hope this year\'s E3 is worthy of orgasm.
-
You guys have no idea what to expect ?
Well, use deduction. Extrapolate from the latest PC graphics tech features and general CGi knowledge.
Concerning graphics engines we should see, or glimpses of :
- no more blob shadows, hard shadows
unless they\'re intentional.
- global illumination set to WORLD
- maaaaybe some real raycasting & radiosity in realtime. Since those are extremely heavy FX we might see \'mimics\' of them.
- shader model 3 as minimum standard
- realtime displacement mapping
Next gen stuff should imo deliver on those points to justify a 400 Euro purchase.
Yeah I know MS\'s bragging about HDTV but the MAJORITY of ppl do NOT have HDTV. Btw, computational strength matters more than an obscene big big widescreens imho.
Imo more important than graphics are advancements in AI and physics ! Of course, all forum talk will be solely about graphics again, but i think next gen games will stand or fall by AI & physics.
The latest pc developments with add in cards for AI & physics is testimony to the need for this. Unless all next gen games will be mindless online shooters, Ai is next gen priority.
Nintendo\'s focus on user interface renaissance is nice, but imo AI is way more important.
I still love single player adventure games, but i\'m getting a bit sick of too much and too obvious scripted events and repetitive game feedback . It\'s about time we see immersive gameworlds which react to player input analog to the realworld, rather than just slick visuals with scripted events and static geometry.
So, all this sums up pretty much a list of things i perceive as within grasp of next gen gaming. It\'s way too easy to avoid discussion by simply saying " I dunno".

i predict 30 fps
-
If they have next gens console games running at 30FPS. A lot of people will be pissed, i doubt it\'ll happen. Most things like Framerates (big issue) would be resolved. The massive amount of memory should be the biggest key factor in how the machines run.
-
so memory helps framerates?
-
Game companies will still put out 30fps games to make the screenshots look prettier than it;s competitors.

yes mm, it does. You knew this right?

I sense a hint of sarcasm. The GPU affects framerate as well. My uncle has a top-of-the-line PC with 2 gigs of RAM, but has yet to get a graphics card, and his comp runs Doom III on crap quality at like...4 frames per second...:(

Long as I see the new Zelda im happy.

For the 10th time man, i told you i don\'t want to join your friggin 1 man village.

It is sooo easy to say 30 fps.
There will always be some bad
games like bad movies, books etc.
Just saying \'30 fps\' has more of a
negative tone to it than otherwise.
With more realistic next gen characters
onscreen, performing more secundary
Inverse Kinematics animations I doubt
any developer wants to see that chopped by 30 fps.
Is it so bad btw ? Konami\'s MGS3 was
forced to 30 fps. The fans always bragged
about MGS2\'s 60 fps and whined at the outlook of a 30 fps MGS3. They played the game, loved it and never complained !
Heck my fav game Ico runs at 30 fps.
And yes, GPU + CPU + memory bandwidth does affect framerate.
-
i never knew mgs3 ran at 30 fps...not that it matters, as long as the game plays well...
-
I predict a cockfight between MS and Sony fanboys, as always. :D
I predict Sony will show of a few in game demos, one of them will be Metal Gear Solid 4 set in a city, the graphics will stun everyone like when MGS2 was first shown (there is a rumour that MGS4 will be announced for PS3 at E3). Sony will not show the final PS3 “design”. I also think the hardware will be more impressive than most people thought.
Microsoft will show of a teaser of Halo 3 which will have the Microsoft camp holler they have won the show.
With Nintendo I don’t know what to say, the Revolution does not interest me that much. But I have a feeling either they will blow everybody’s minds or let everyone down, leaning towards the latter.
At least they will show some impressive games (Zelda).

Easy to say that when Nintendo has let almost NOTHING out about the Revolution. Come back and say it was either impressive or not impressive once we actually have a general idea about the console.
Expect a highly impressive Zelda trailer, along with the new Mario and some great GBA / DS titles . Mainly, expect strong first party support for all the Nintendo consoles, but not a big third party showing.

MGS has ran it\'s course. The second was a let down and the third felt stale. Maybe Kojima should go back and do actual good games (See: Snatcher or Z.O.E 2). I doubt the hardware will be more impressive than what people think, only because the mindless drones expect some huge leap, which I don\'t think any console is going to deliver.
Sony better have something better than a MGS4. I would expect to see some of Killzone 2 and The Getaway 2, but neither of those games warrant any attention. Maybe an announcement about a God Of War sequel? That game deserves one.
Oh and expect more from that stupid pesudo Ico sequel.
Microsoft will show of a teaser of Halo 3 which will have the Microsoft camp holler they have won the show.
If all they have to show is HALO 3, then there will be no victory dance. MS will need at least a sequel to Fable, a CG movie of a Ninja Gaiden 2 , HALO 3 and then some strong third party support. Halo, like MGS has ran it\'s course and each company cannot rely on it\'s respective title.
-
Halo, like MGS has ran it\'s course and each company cannot rely on it\'s respective title.
Maybe in your opinion. I know most people said that Eminiem had ran his course after his second album..
Oh, and MGS3 was the best one yet! :) Keep em coming! ;)
-
Nintendo always has a strong E3 showing, why would a year where they have a new system incoming any different?
get yo head of the donkey\'s ass PALEAZ
-
MGS has been surpassed by Splinter Cell, which also sucks, by the way.
;)

Eh, the games are really nothing like eachother. Other than the premise of being stealthy.
Nintendo fanboy!
