Gamespot\'s Forza Review - 9.2 (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/driving/forzamotorsport/review.html?q=1&tag=gs_hp_flashtop_bg)
Looks like Polyphony has some competition, but this is a good thing as they\'ll try to one up each other. We win.:)

Yeah all accounts so far is the game rocks.

I suppose, but for those with one system, the other game doesnt really matter for anything but senseless debate etc.

No, what I meant is that if you, for example, own a Xbox then you have the Forza development team trying to one up Polyphony and vice-versa.
What\'s that saying, competition is the mother of innovation?

profit is the true mother of innovation

yes, I suppose it was profit that got Polyphony to put all the innovative features they included in Gran Turismo 4 over the thrid game...oh wait.:p
-
well, yes
why else would anyone buy it?
or anything for that matter
-
necessity is the mother of innovation

Necessity is the mother of invention, competition breeds innovation.

Went right over your head...I\'ll just say that GT4 didn\'t do much more than its predecessor.
-
it didn\'t have to

You missed my point. It demolishes your comment of "profit is the true mother of innovation."
-
no, it strengthens it

So you\'re disagreeing with yourself?

I\'m curious as to how you\'re making sense of that.
If profit is the true mother of innovation then why is that GT4 did hardly anything new? Explain.

Microsoft = MOTHER of profit
Where\'s the innovation in Windows? Take a look at how far Mac\'s OS has come (if you\'ve seen it in motion by someone who knows what he/she\'s doing you know what I\'m talking about). What drives Apple to innovate is competition, they have to one up Windows as much as they can, and they don\'t make nearly as much profit as MS.
-
I dont think profit and innovation go together these days.Companies dont risk with innovation much because innovation doesnt necessarily bring profit.They offer whatever can sell for sure.
They prefer improving on the same ideas.

MS has a stranglehold on the OS market, and have very little reason to put more effort into Windows then they have to. Apple, on the other hand, needs to give people a reason to either stay with them or convert.
With Forza, MS had to demonstrate they can challenge the market leader of racing sims. On almost all accounts they managed to better it. Forza would not have all the features it does if it weren\'t for Gran Turismo, and you can bet that GT5 will be a better game because of Forza.
Competition = innovation.

Good points but I disagree only on the "Competition = innovation" part.I d personally say more like evolution/improvement.

This is simple Microeconomics you hippy. Competition decreases prices while increasing quality. If all we saw were Ford Model-Ts on the road you think we\'d have Bluetooth phone hookups to our car\'s navigational system like Acuras have? Would Nintendo give a damn about HDTV and multi-channel sound if Sony and MS didn\'t do it first?
mmmmm I dunno :soapbox:

Competition=improvement=increasing quality
