Seems to confirm the other pics that have been flying around.

Can’t tell you how we got our hands on this image, but what you’re looking at is a real live shot of the Xbox 360 that someone sneakily snapped with their cameraphone at Microsoft’s Xbox360 Revealed launch party in Los Angeles last night. Also note the presence of a hard drive attachment up top, the white controller, the Xbox Live headset, and what looks like that EyeToy-like camera peripheral we’ve been hearing about.
Getting closeeeer! :D
-
Looks cool!Nice design :)
I dont like the looks of the controller though. Not that it would matter much if its comfortable
-
I\'m not sure I approve of the white. In a few years will it start looking like my "Golden SNES"? ;) I’m more of a black man myself (ha!), PS2 black, PSTwo black, GC black, PSP black.
Looks a lot better than the Xbox, I\'ll give them that.
On the controller, I\'ll wait and see. Glad they dumped those white and black buttons and turned them into sholderbuttons (like on DS).
-
Look close - doesn\'t look like the final controller design.
With that said - it may be. Looks a lot like a sidewinder.
-
Yeah the controller looks like a prototype or unfinished version. I like the design of the console. Its sleek enough. As long as it has good games I\'ll buy it.
-
it\'s a monster
-
it\'s huge!

He was talking about my penis.

this is true
-
M$ fucked again.. dunno how they can manage...
-
...Yeah... Adan knows what he\'s talking about!!
-
same size as the PS2 which came out HOW MANY YEARS AGO!?
japan\'s gonna have a good laugh again
-
the color looks bland if its the real design. Maybe silver would do.
-
^ Indeed. All those concept pics showed the same casing with a silver gloss finish.
Now the real thing looks to NOT have that silver gloss finish. I guess plain white plastic means cheaper production costs for MS. This looks like "MS iPod - big version"
MM\'s right about the size. It looks about the same as the original PS2. Most ppl I know, including myself, have the slimline 70000 PS2.
I guess it\'s acceptable, but I have a feeling PS3 and Revolution might surprise with their designs.
-
I\'ll most likely get this anyway.
Xbox live is just too good to pass up.
-
I think we should better wait and see how PS3 and Revolution will look before we judge the next XBOX
-
It\'ll fit nice in any HT setup.
It\'s not that big.
-
Well, the facts are that MS is fully aware of the Japan problems of Xbox : size.
These pics are evidently the best MS can/is willing to do when it comes to housing next gen hardware ;
So the Xbox 360 fact we have now is that MS needs the size of PS2 for the cooling and hardware layout of all essential components.
Since it is said that Xbox 360 specs crush a current Nvidia SLi pc it is imo a pretty good achievement. On several boards ppl with SLi setups report some nasty high gpu temps. It is good to see that the next gen Ati gpu can be kept cool in that box.
Big question mark is now the size of the PS3 and Revolution. Nintendo\'s console is rumoured to incorporate some kind of 3D holographic projector so you won\'t need any tv anymore.
Yes, I am quite curious about those consoles.

two shots of the controller and the remote. Meh is what I have to say
-
I think X-BOX "360" won\'t have trouble pricing their console at $300 or so, since it uses the DVD disc as its storage space.
PS3, what got me curious about PS3 though is the cost. Because good thing is seem like Sony is going to include Blu-Ray format too and possibly can play Blu Ray Video. But what got me curious is how much will it cost to include that.
-
Quote from Gamespot Next gen console article :
"If we use David Reeves\'s example numbers as the price points Sony would like to meet, a plain-Jane PS3 will retail for under $300 and a PSX version could sell for $700-$900."
link (http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-x-1939-x-x-x&body_pagenum=3)
-
so, then my guess would be, ps3 without HDD may cost $300, with HDD that can be used as a personal video recorder may cost $700 to $900.
But I am wondering about Blu Ray...which is an optical media, not a hard disk drive...
-

Weak argument, like usual. I guess u expect it to be the same size as an ipod, even then I doubt it would make u happy.
japan\'s gonna have a good laugh again
As if we yanks give 2 shits what the japs think.
-
looks like an apple console, guess microsoft got tired of shitty designs and ripped someone else\'s off :p
i wub apple looking products so hey i like this

WTF! 700-900 dollars, do you even think any1 will spend that much on a freaking home gaming system!
Please explian why it would cost 700-900 with an HDD?
-
weak argument?
it\'s two generations and 5-6 years newer
lol for making excuses
:thumb:
-
if it ends up costing 700-900 for a PS3 then screw it. I\'m getting a 360 anyways.

*ahem*\'
3D0 = $700 at launch.
Neo-Geo = $800 + (if I remember correctly? Someone correct me.)
-
those numbers are about accurate
think the neo-geo was closer to 650$ at US launch, BUT an entirely different circumstance.
3DO overplayed thier hand. they thought people would line up to drop 700$ on a next-gen console. just a bad business decision. especially when i picked mine up a year later for like 100$
neo-geo\'s games costed 200$ apiece cause the system had direct ROM access to the carts, not to mention the size.
it had 300meg carts
-
The size seems fine to me if its like the PS2.The PS2 wasnt even smaller than the SNES but nobody complained. And since you can place it sideways it saves space
-
I\'d love to see the PS3 be any smaller. It won\'t happen. Sure it\'s 5 years newer than the PS2, but the innards are also 5 years newer.
I think the design is ok. They\'ll offer different colors I\'m sure either via face plates or pre-market.
Not a big fan of the controller. I\'m a duke guy.

oh my, and look at just how well those consoles did.
If I\'m sorry but if Sony selles thier consoel for that much they will turn down a SH!TLOAD of buyers and who will get those buyers? take a guess. I can see 400 max, but anything higher and I will cry.
I have owned every sony console out and wait 14 hrs. in line to get my PS2 on Oct. 23 I think the release date was "off the top of my head" I will do the same for the PS3 if it\'s worth it.
-
Unknown, did you see the post that also said $300 for base PS3? That\'s the same as Xbox 360 (presumably).

the poster before me, knotter8 quote a link saying it may cost $700 to $900 with Hard Disk Drive....shrugs...i don\'t why why it would cost that much honestly, but that is what the link said.
But my main concern is the Blu Ray support, if it does support blu ray, how much would it cost?
-
How can somebody possibly BITCH about the size. When it looks big as a ps2. And everyone loved that shit. Oh the irony:rolleyes:
-
I think the size is fine. Whiners...

It wouldn\'t cost much because consoles would be the only way to provide a cheap Blu-ray player. However, with all this talk of HD-DVD and Blu-ray merging, who the hell knows what it\'ll have?
-
Read here : link (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/606/606548p1.html)
Blu-ray is most likely NOT going to be accepted as the new standard. HD DVD opposition is just to big, \'thanx\' to Hollywood.
You guys should read some more articles.
The 300 dollar pricepoint is for the PS3 you are wanting.
The estimate of 700 dollar for the PS3 with full PSX-like features might cost that.
Most ppl always complain they don\'t want extra cost becuz of such multimedia functions ; well Sony nullifies those arguments becuz you will have a choice between the game PS3 @ 300 USD and the \'PSX multimedia features\' PS3 @ ~ 700 USD.
Anyway, it\'s not clear yet which format will be PS3\'s optical device. My guess is indeed it\'ll be a \'concession format\'. The Hollywood lobby for HD DVD is just too strong for Blu Ray.
Ppl need to stop going PANIC when they see an estimate figure of 700 USD for a multimedia version they don\'t want anyway.
-
however, i think differently. I am routing for Blu Ray and hopefully it will be the format choice in the competition for consumers and hopefully HD-DVD will lose the competition between the two formats.
-
Well, yeah Blu Ray has my vote too, but the Hollywood lobby for HD DVD is just too damn huge. Sony\'ll never win that.
Just like Betamax lost vs the VHS...
Anyway, I\'m sure Sony\'ll keep the pricepoint for the \'gaming\' PS3 at 300 or something alike Xbox360.
-
why are people comparing it to 6 year old technology?
you guys will make excuses for anything
it could be as big as a volkswagon, and you guys would say "well, it\'s not that big compared to cray machines. it has a nice shiny power button, and halo 2.5 so i have to get it."
-
I think Xbox360 will be a great machine which\'ll bring some nice novelties like true HD TV gaming.
But...imo it might be pushed to market a bit too soon. We can\'t exactly trace back the dates when technology development for both consoles really started..
-
Golden SNES? Ever hear of washing your hands? My original SNES looks as new as the day I got it. *shrugs*
I like the console, but I\'m not too sure about that controller.
As for the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD format, I think Sony and Toshiba are merging their technologies so there are no worries about a format war.

EDIT: What\'s with the numbers around the little sphere?
-
Rikku, it\'s presumably because of the wireless controllers (to show/choose who\'s who).
-
Sammy to my rescue!
That makes sense, thanks.
-
No, they\'re there for shock treatment !

They ve spent millions for a reason to create the blu-ray disck format.I dont think they will give up easily..They are planning to succeed. If PS3 sells well it automatically generates Blue-ray support.
And probably that could mean the existence of many and more customers owning a Blue-Ray disk format through PS3(if people dont show interest for Blue-Ray they would show interest for the console) before the HD DVD format manages to get people interested enough to reach the same numbers.
Unless the next XBOX has the HD DVD format and sells well ofocourse.
Also if I remember well an old article mentioned that Sony may not be in such difficult position because they can release many movies on Blue-Ray disk format to support it (for example through Columbia pictures\' rights)
-
FYI Uni- as of late Sony is openly seeking a compromise to avoid a format war between BR and HD DVD.
-
the design looks good,...who cares if it\'s big? is that gonna be the deciding factor in purchasing it? as long as the console has a good line up, you guys should cop it...i won\'t be getting it tho, my motto is one console per gen,...and i gotta roll with sony....

Like being compatible with both BR and HD DVD formats?

Yep. They\'re in talks with their old buddy/rival Toshiba.
-
If BR has more storage space (or if the HD DVD seems to be the choice so far) why the existence/support of both BR and HD DVD on the same devices?
I think one of them will be ommited at the end
-
Indeed and it\'ll most likely be BluRay. It all depends on which company has the most backing.
-
Well the mtv special is thursday. I wanna see more close up picks of the console. Looks cool though. I thought the color of the console was going to be silver.
-
is that gonna be the deciding factor in purchasing it?
ask a nation of millions
aka japan
-
Like 127 million.
-
Sony & Toshiba are looking to make a format which combines the specs of Blu Ray & HD DVD as a compromise.
This is evidence that Sony\'s willing to
make such an ff-ing detour to keep the
integral specs of PS3.
I think Blu Ray is Sony\'s Betamax of today
and they\'re very aware of their minority in support for it.
The specs of the Xbox360 in the other thread (I saw \'em earlier at another forum) look very real. This format issue is a snag for Sony and maybe a really big one.
I\'m more curious though for PS3\'s processing specs.
-
Whatever they\'re planning to do, they need to hurry up and decide already.
-
It seems they have come to a compromise format :
article (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/611/611379p1.html)
It most likely keeps in line with the original specs for data acces times and compression.
