this is just another report of the latest happenings in iraq...the marines are engaged in an offensive initiative to force insurgents out of iraq....
http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/05/10/iraq.main/index.html
my question to you is tho, is when do you think the u.s. will actually be out of iraq for good? post your dates and we\'ll see if or when the u.s. actually does pullout of iraq, we\'ll see how close members actually were in here...my guess..march of 2010.

When? The day they all leave. :)

Not for a long time(50 + years), we have military presence in places for a long long time after a war.
-
One of the problems is that we\'re spending a BILLION dollars of OUR money per week to "help" the Iraqis. How long can our nation continue to spend that kind of money, AND give greater and greater tax cuts to the wealthy, AND maintain a military that presents a credible deterrent in other areas of the world, AND keep our own country from slipping into poverty-induced chaos?
All we need is one more significant terrorist attack fueled by the hatred we\'ve sown for ourselves in the middle east, and our already stumbling economy will take a nosedive. The end will come a lot sooner if that happens.
You can only ignore fiscal reality for so long before it kicks you in the face.

i agree with you all the way bro..i\'ve already heard that some of our allies...or "the coalition of the willing" are starting to want out of iraq immediately...and again theu.s. cannot sustain this type of financial strain for years on end,...sooner or later somethings gonna give, either the military or the economy. i pick the latter...oh and uhm while you\'re at it core, why don\'t you throw a date out there for the pullout?..

Why not try posting something a little more substantive if you feel the need to participate in a discussion about an important topic like this?

I was reading in a political science book that it might be a decent solution if (to get straight to the point) Iraq was divided up and each neighboring country got a share.
If it worked out like the pundit predicted, everybody would be happy and our force wouldn\'t be (as) necessary anymore.

Yeah right.
How many of those countries will fight for the territory with the most oil?
We\'re going to have a permanent stay there. Unless we pull a Viet and just leave.

That cost of war site is a real eye opener.

SirMystiq: No kidding. That\'s a major part of their income over there (if not the main export) so you\'re correct in saying it\'s not that easy.
Anywho.. here\'s the excerpt I was referring to..
We\'d take the northern region and give it to Turkey, specifically to the Turkish Kurds. Kuwait would be offered the south. The western area would be assigned to Syria as part of a peace deal where they must recognize Israel\'s sovereignty. And, as an olive branch to Iran, we would give them a slice of the eastern region if they agreed to dismantle their nuclear program. Then, let each of these four nations manage what is, for the most part, mountainous tribal land. The final brush stroke in this emerging piece of art would be to paint a boundary around Baghdad at the center of the territory and call that Iraq. If we really wanted to be creative, we could give a piece to Palestine. You might get them to migrate from Gaza if there were oil wells in the deal. This would be their ticket out of the slums and into more productive land.
Two things:
A. This idea has been thrown around before by US government officials.. as recently as the first Gulf War. I\'m not sure what they think now.
B. The author may or may not be factoring in your concern, Mystiq. Somehow I don\'t think every quarter of Iraq has an equal oil supply waiting to be tapped..

Iraq will be the launching point for the invasion of Iran.

do you actually believe there will be anymore premeptive strikes against another country at this point or in the distant future? i think not...
-
How naive you are clips...
-
We can\'t afford to attack anyone else right now. I don\'t see how it\'s naive.
BTW, I agree with your new Churchill quotation, Giga. Both ideological extremes have vices. The problem is that Republicans are pushing us too far in the direction of unhindered, unregulated, unaccountable capitalism. We need something in the middle, which is NOT where we are right now.

Did anybody else hear about that UK memo that said that the war will happen, way before it actually happened. Kind of interesting that nobody really paid attention to it...
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/05/11/britain.war.memo/index.html
Eighty-nine Democratic members of the U.S. Congress last week sent President George W. Bush a letter asking for explanation of a secret British memo that said "intelligence and facts were being fixed" to support the Iraq war in mid-2002.
So, they might be planning the Iran invasion at this very moment...
