Damn! I just re-installed Rhino 3D on my computer and cant get the damn Service Release 3.0... someone bought out the old Rhino 2.0 or something and they took down ALL service releases for 2.0 BASTARDS! now I can\'t install the update for flamingo (the rendering software) and I probably wont be able to install bongo (cell shading rendering software)either FARK!
Please help a brotha out!
-
:( Sorry, I can\'t help you with that becuz I use Cinema4D.
But eh...this thread screams for a new PSX2Central 3D graphics contest, eh Adan ? ;)
I\'m really busy getting my 3D portfolio to desired levels. Focusing on high poly modeling. I should get to all other aspects like texturing etc really though.
So, if you wanna see pics desperately, just ask.
-
id love to see some pics of some 3d stuff... im out of touch right now...I really need some major practice. I copy of Maya wouldnt hurt either ;) Damn I wish I had money for all the crap I want haha
-
It\'s kind of like a \'My own SplinterCell adventures\' project.
Focus is on really getting some neat details, not by bumpmaps nor normal maps. Real geometry.

Me as a SplinterCell wannabe (http://members.home.nl/hkonings/knotje_cell1.jpg)
Boning is in progress...some deformations are not quite good yet.. ugh.
-
Knotter just curious but why don\'t you save as PNG instead? You can compress PNGs too. Just wondering why this format isn\'t as popular (yet).
-
At my former job at webdesign i used PNG alot. It\'s especially better at handling transparancy alpha then GIF. The only downside is the save as quality has to be at least 80 % to look reasonable.
-
cool man... Is that NURBS or polygons?
-
I model polygons. Mostly point per point.
Focus is on getting the details the way i want them exactly. Box modeling, Boolean, Extruding Alot are basically curse words in my modeling book, so I don\'t do those.
Character modeling with splines ?
Now that would be hell for me. Heh, I once started in 3D with Maya. I\'m amazed most of their modeling tutorials still start with nurbs modeling. So that\'s why i switched to Cinema4D becuz I don\'t agree with Maya on modeling. Plus, Cinema4D isn\'t nitpicky about the kind of videocard you have. Maya still requires a pro 3D card to work 100% like it should, C4D doesn\'t and it\'s cheaper btw.

How much is it? I want a copy to play with
-
Here in Europe the prices are
Cinema4D product website (http://www.maxon.de/index_e.html)
You should be able to find a demo version there.
Version R9 base € 603 = USD 763
Version R9 Bundle ( includes 5 modules like Advanced Renderer, Bodypaint3D etc ) € 1723 = USD 2178
prices are excluding tax. Maya basic version is about € 2400 over here....

I just spent about an hour on this... needs a lot more work, but its the first thing that Ive done in about 2 years:

The mesh looks to be clean. The trigger mechanism could use some space there though...
-
yeah, I actually had a drawing that I did here in my office.. I didnt have it in front of me when I did the model so I didnt go into great detail. I have some parts to "chunk out" or weld. But the whole trigger needs to be redone and the barrel needs to come back and down.
-
I\'ve made the model single mesh now. Alot of work to convert all objects into selection tags * sigh *.
Textures specially for Soulgrind ;)
( Do I have sexy lips or what ? )
-
looks good man... i have a character that I want to work on next.. I need to bring myself back up to speed though... its amazing how quickly you can forget how to use all the tools in a software program like this.
-
Agreed ! Not to mention all those \'upgrade\' changes those software companies make with every yearly new edition.
Last time I used Maya was version 5
It would take some time for me to catch
up on that app...
-
Heres another quick one I did last night.. im playing around with my rendering program more than anything right now.

here\'s something I did in one afternoon. Only one object: a plane. All done with extrusion and beveling & greeble
in 3dsmax 6
-
 Nice going dudes !
Personally i like to take some more longterm time for 3D projects though.
-
yeah, me too. mebbe I get to work on an idea I had recently this weekend. It\'s an enormous flattened sphere building supported by 4 fang-like arches with a network of arched bridges connecting them...
-
that sounds cool. I need to work on making more organic looking bojects. I have an character I\'ve been dying to build. Ill keep looking for some good tutorials for Rhino. BTW: looks like we might become a dealer for Rhino.. Oh yeahh! Dealer package, here I come! muhahah. I cant wait to get my hands on version 3.0
-
For portfolio purposes I HAD to have these poses online quickly. Needs LOTS of work and maybe even some redo-ing of some mesh parts.. anyways ;

-
I\'d love to get my hands on Z-Brush.....
-
I bought the optional Bodypaint3D module for Cinema4D.... i still need to get to grips with it though...
detailed modeling and such is taking up quite some time * sigh * (or maybe i\'m just sloooow)
-
so what do you use to apply materials to your models? like clothing. If I take a model and want to change poses, is there plugins you can purchase to make materials "stretch and fold" with the body?
-
Well, the model you see is still vertex weight mapped, oldschool, and basic at that becuz i\'m still learning it.
Cinema4D however has it\'s own method called Claude Bonet (they came up with that name by combining Bones with Monet) becuz it can be used to manually paint weight maps onto the bones.
As for shader materials ; all is basic C4D shader materials, except for the face. I used my own photographs for that.
It was quite tricky to make it seem seamlessly which i did in Photoshop. I still need to learn UVW unwrapping :(
Anyway, I flatmapped the textures onto the face selection tags (front of face, neck and ears) and then I selected Generate UVW maps.
The nightvision goggles, the combat knife on the lower leg and the radio on the back are excluded from bone deformation by using a Stop tag.
Kaydara\'s Motion Builder is popular for rigging characters though.
