Do you guys think that it is important to invest in larger capacity optical disks or do you think that the inevitable emergence of wider pipes and better broadband will make web distribution and download-on-demand king?
Someone brought this up in a fark thread and I thought it was a good debate. What do you guys think?

larger discs will most likely mean larger (hopefully) games. Personally don\'t use ps2 online. So i doubt i\'d do it with any next gen console. Everyone plays their systems, but not everyone goes online. Kinda easy to see which should be more focused on imo.

where i live, cable ISP offer all-in-one modem/wire-less routeur. Every computre illetrate now have access to internet for all their devices in their house.
It\'s a matter of month before commercial building become 100% wireless (we have a shopping mall wireless). It\'s a matter of time before every household is highspeed wireless.

The Internet is still a baby. Optical discs until our youngest member has gray hair.

Graphics and textures will be of amuch higher resolution which will mean more storage will be necessary. Worlds will be larger and more detailed. Gonna need bigger disc\'s. Multilayers on discs that can be accessed simultaneously would be an advantage, but I\'m not sure if blueray discs have this capability.
Storing all this content on the web and using bandwidth would be expensive for developers who have to store the data and maintain the 100\'s - 1000\'s of servers it would take to feed gamers. Also many gamers still do not have access to broadband or have fast enough broadband at this time to make the pursuit of a pure web based console feasilble.
We will however see lots of additional content available through the web this next gen.
