Are they going to keep the PS3 under 500 bucks? I mean I will certainly wait to buy a blue ray player until this thing comes out.
I just can\'t imagine how much this thing is really worth if they didn\'t make money off game licensing.
-
I doubt anything will be over 500. Nobody is going to pay that and they know it. That is unless they make evident the fact that what they are selling is worth it. The gaming industry has changed and for the past few gens the prices have been fixed around 300 (for the most part).
-
with inflation and the weak dollar I could see the ps3 coming out around $349. Although the magic pricepoint has been $300 for the past several generations, and you know xbox is gonna be trying to undercut sony pricewise...
Thank God for competition :thumb:
-
There was an article saying how it\'d be under 50,000 yen, which translates into about $465. Still a hefty sum.
-
Insane. Im not going to pay more than $300 unless I get a HDTV to play it on
-
$465 HDTV not included :p
According a an article published in the May 17th edition of Japan\'s Mainichi Shimbun, the PlayStation 3 could be one of the most expensive mass-market videogame consoles ever created. Officials from Sony apparently told the newspaper that PlayStation 3s would sell in Japan for "less than 50,000 yen each." That translates to about $465 US dollars.
Sony unveiled its next-generation console at the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2005. The beast of a machine utilizes the powerful Cell processor, a custom-designed graphics chip by Nvidia, and 512MBs of RAM for a quantum leap in performance. The system will also be the first-ever to support high-def movie-playback out of the box, taking advantage of the upcoming Blu-ray Disc format.
Sony claims that PS3 will be roughly 35 times more powerful than PS2. If Mainichi Shimbun is correct, gamers will be asked to pay a hefty price for the high-end functionality.

It always costs more in Japan.
-
When the consoles drop to $199, I\'ll buy one.
-
My prediction: It\'ll cost whatever XBox 360 costs. Or only a slight amount more.
Of course, it\'d cause a HUGE stir if it happened to be cheaper...

then its cheap.I think PS2 was 600 when it launched in Japan
-
As far as I remember, Sony launched PS2 at 48\'000 Yen which should be the same price PS3 is going to launch at (accoarding to the IGN sniplet).
-
$465
-
all consoles will launch at 299....except nintendo...anything more than 299...i\'ll wait for the price drop...

Source?
I know I\'m definitely getting both PS3 and X360. I\'m not going to have much money...
:(
-
high doubtful the xbox 2 will be 299$ at launch
if so, ouch
-
I\'m leaning towards $350.
-
I was wrong, PS2 launched at 39\'800 Yen in Japan. PS3 will be a great deal more expensive.
Apparently, Sony is still checking, but for now, I\'d expect $350, maximum $399.

"An article that ran on the Japanese newspaper\'s Web site said that the PlayStation 3 could potentially sell for under $500. "The new machine, which will have a higher performance capacity than personal computers and provide sophisticated movie-quality images, will be priced at less than 50,000 yen each, according to [Sony] officials," said the paper."
I hope I have a kickass job at launch. :) I\'m really interested in a blu-ray player.
-
I can afford them, it\'s just that for a month, I\'m not going to have enough money for anything recreational.
-
Something I find quite interesting is that one of our biggest newspapers (Blick.ch) is expecting Xbox360 launch price in Switzerland to be 370 CHF - which would be around $300. The strange is, is that PS2 launched at 699 CHF in 2000 - which equals no less than $570.
-
Microsoft already commented they would not make the same mistakes in the European market as they did last time. How much was the Xbox when it launched over there?
-
400 or 450 Euro\'s.
I paid 1149 Dutch Florijn for a launch PS2 which was about 500 to 550 USD.
Yes, tax makes such stuff always expensive over here.
Ah well, I\'ll get a PS3 anyway. Money\'s not a problem.
-
I think it will be around $399.99-450
-
Rikku finally got an avatar. Does that mean you\'re leaving?
*pulls elbow towards chest*
Yes!
jk
-
Not leaving.:)
-
I hope at least we get the price of x360. Cause I expect the ps3 to be at least $100 more than x360. I mean considering all the entertainment features it has.
-
If ps3 launches @465 I can only imagine the cost of these console will continue to go up. Just as the software is going up.
I dred the thought of $600-700 consoles.
-
There was a post on another forum stating that the PS3 wil cost $370 in Japan.
The post was from someone who translated an article from a Japanese website.
I do not forsee a console costing more then $399 personally, and $349 seems like the next logical price increase for a system in the USA IMO
-
400 bucks for an HD DVD player is fine with me. Now I get to play video games on it to? Fuck yeah..
My son is a lucky son of a bitch.

hmmm i\'d have to take back what i said about not getting one of these because of the price...349 sounds decent for what you\'re getting...
-
No way am I ever paying for a console that is greater than 300...
I won\'t buy the PS3 until the price falls below 250... I\'m just a poor college kid.
-
i don\'t know how sony can sell ps3 with blu ray playback for $300. Shrugs...but if it does sell at that price point, then they make history since stand a lone blu ray players are more expensive since its new.
-
I can\'t see this thing less than 600 bucks. If it is, then they must have an amazing licencing deal with software companies.
-
this is why game prices are going up, to offset the loss both sony and microsoft are gonna have selling each console.

If Sony can get blu-ray to be the dominant HD disc format then Sony will make money 10 fold in the near future. The best way to get blu-ray to be preferred and popular is to attach it to a device you know 80 million people will buy.
Sony will have liscensing deals with every HD disc player made with blu-ray technology. Take the loss now and make out in the end
