Title: Batman Begins
Post by: Halberto on June 15, 2005, 02:47:51 PM
Saw it last night at midnight. Total waste of time. The beginning was great, then when the crime fighting began it was like watching law and order batman style.

It\'s fuckin fantastic.

If you like action films, you\'ll like it.
If you like drama, you\'ll like it.
If you like superhero films, you\'ll like it.
If you likes the comics, you\'ll LOVE it.

Honestly, I\'m a huge Batman fan, love the comics, animated series and Burton\'s \'89 vision, but after Nolan\'s take on the character, I can\'t look back. I will go see it again Friday with my G/F and then yet again SATURDAY .

oh my sweet jesus
this movie was perfect if you can handle a few katie holmes monologues
halberto is just upset because the batman suit didnt have those fabulous nipples on them and there is no hit song by a famous pop group on the soundtrack and cause the dialog wasnt cheesy and the acting was actully good

i also just found out about the sequels
[sp]"The next one would have Batman enlisting the aid of Gordon and Dent in bringing down The Joker...but not killing him, which is a mistake they made in the first one," Batwriter David Goyer tells the latest issue of U.S. movie magazine PREMIERE. "In the third, the Joker would go on trial, scarring Dent in the process."[/sp]
thats from the director

This movie was without a doubt what every mature old school Batman fan has been waiting for. Who is Bruce Wayne. What made him Batman.

It\'s the perfect Batman movie. [sp] It surpringly, it has one of the best car chases I\'ve ever seen.[/sp]

I love how they explained everything. Anyone who knew he was Batman, knew for a reason. I also loved how Alfred made Bruce play up the billionare playboy aspect.

Great fucking movie.

I am curious as to what MM will say. I know he was a fellow lover of Burton\'s \'89 film. I know after Batman Begin\'s, I can\'t even watch \'Batman\' the same way.

I know i probably do this too much but it makes me feel all tingley due to the fact that that whole sequence was shot here. That and a few good parts of the movie. Stupid i know. I just wish i would have caught them filming it.

Anyway, I saw it last night and it was f*ing awesome. I was pretty skeptical, especially when i saw the tumbler. I though it looked rediculous but had i been me today, i would have slapped myself for being so stupid. That and i thought Bale was going to make a terrible batman but i was wrong about that too.

IDK, theres just so much to say about the movie. The special effects were good too. [sp] The first time i saw the effect on scarecrow i thought that was a nice touch. I mean he asks to pull out his mask and i was like wtf? and then bam. Didnt know what to expect but everything was done very nicely. Good stuff. The effect it had on Batman wasnt bad either.[/sp]

The only problems i kinda had with the movie (and [sp] tag these if you think they are a bit much) were the way Bale had to purse his lips and talk all grundgy as batman, and the fact that Gotham didnt really resemble Gotham in ways that it had been portrayed before (though ive grown to like the simplicity and realism of this one). I do realize that there are a few reasons for doing the voice thing too but it was just sort of odd the first couple of times.

This is getting too damn long.

Kickass movie though.

I saw it, and it really was amazing. They kind of did what Spiderman 2 was attempting which is more focus on the main character and his faults/strengths.

I like how they changed stuff to make it more realistic. The Batmobile is no longer a sports car, Gothon City is just a regular big city, it all works.

Post by: Living-In-Clip on June 17, 2005, 02:09:07 AM
Burton approached the character in a fantasy setting. He wanted Gotham to be timeless and Batman to be a monster that stalked the night.

Nolan approached the character in a realistic setting. He wanted Gotham to be a mix of all our cities. For Batman to be a myth that stalked the night.

Two different approaches,  personally, as much as I love Burton\'s, I prefer Nolan\'s vision.

Post by: Evi on June 17, 2005, 12:10:26 PM
Spider-Man 2 was a lot better than the first one. What I hated about it was the fact that they jam-packed 300 issues of Spider-Man into one f*cking movie. :/ That pissed me off a bit. Tobey McGuire also isn\'t a very good Spider-Man...so that didn\'t really help anything. But there were some incredible scenes in that movie...like the whole train thing. *insane*

Marvel has not made a truly good movie.

X-men = A subpar film. THe characters was changed to much. The action was dull and the acting was pathetic.

X-2 = A better film, still the pacing was terrible and acting had not improved.

Spider-Man = Pathetic outfits and bad casting all around.

Spider-Man 2 = A tad better, but still pathetic . Sam Rami has always been a hack director and it shows when he takes on films with a big budget.

Daredevil = Decent. If it wasn\'t for the Elektra character, it would of been better.

The Hulk  = Ang Lee was not the one to direct this. The story is convulted also.

Elektra = God awful.

Punisher = Uhm......yea.

On that note, I am goin\' to go watch Batman Begins yet again.

Saw it earlier this evening.  It was certainly good, but I wasn\'t as impressed as I was hoping to be.  Like Halberto, there were a few times I was simply bored of what I was seeing.

I thought Bale\'s portrayal of Bruce Wayne was excellent, but I hated him as Batman...  He did not fit the character while in the suit, in my opinion, and his dialogue was laughable and boring most of the time.  There were a few instances when he conveyed his lines with the dark emotion I expected ("Swear to ME!") and those were some of the best parts of the movie.

Also, Cillian Murphy was a PERFECT Dr. Crane.  Really nailed the part.  Same with Michael Caine as Alfred.  I constantly thought those two were the stars of the movie when they appeared on-screen.  And being a Morgan Freeman fan, I can\'t complain with what he offered.  Overall, a fantastic cast.

I just wish the Batman character had more... substance.  Bruce Wayne certainly did, but I just didn\'t feel it when he threw on the costume.  Meh.  7/10.

i still cant get over this movie
i loved almost every minute
little dissapointed that the 3 days they spent filming by my house only turned into like 30 seconds on screen
i especially liked the nod to the first batman movie when he [sp]pulls[/sp] the guy out of the [sp]car[/sp] and the [sp]guy[/sp] says "what are [sp]you[/sp]?" "I\'m [sp]batman[/sp]"

and yes i like being [sp]annoying[/sp]

I was a little confused by that as well. Daredevil is possibly the WORST Marvel film I\'ve ever had the misfortune of watching. Everything about it was wrong. I mean...for sh*t\'s sake, the Kingpin was black. Now...I\'m a big fan of Michael Clarke Duncan, but the Kingpin is a fat, bald white guy, always smokin\' a cigar. I guess they couldn\'t find a white mofo big enough to play Kingpin, so I guess they just went with Michael. He\'s a freakin\' elephant. Heh...now that I think about it, he\'s probably the only part of the movie I enjoyed. But switching around comic book characters\' nationalities throws everything into a funk.

Bullseye...what a joke.

Ben Affleck is just a douche. I can\'t stand anything he does. Such a horrible actor that is completely overrated.

Hmph.
I mean it has fight scenes - but no blood and the fight scenes are edited so fast, you can\'t see what is goin on.

However, the Batman in this movie is more of a monster. I mean, he grabs people from the shadows, etc.

mmmmmm mmmm

Very enjoyable movie. Great action, excellent story, perfect acting, and some genuinly funny parts. How can you complain?

Well, I suppose my biggest complaint was that there just wasn\'t enough. :) I wanted to see Batman stalking people from the shadows a bit more, I wanted to see Scarecrow in his mask a whole lot more, and well.. just everything. :)

Oh, and I also wanted to see Batman (or even Bruce) fleeing a scene saying; "I have to return some videotapes!"

Uhm.
No one tried to make Batman an englishman. And even if they did - how can you complain about that and love \'89? This was the most faithful adapation of the comics, where as \'89 was at most , an Elseworlds tale. So the complaining of a supposed englishman accent just loses me.

Don\'t get me wrong, I still have a soft spot for Keaton as Batman, but I have realized that someone has finally topped him.. Then again, I am partial, I have already seen it twice (took a vacation day from work Wensday to see it!) and I plan on see\'ing it at least three more times before it leaves the cinema\'s, if not more. I never do that for a movie.. I mean, I loved Sin City, but I had no desire to keep see\'ing it.

None of the bad guys were unbelievable like Jim Carrey\'s "blender with searchlights hidgeout in the middle of the sea". Scarecrow was just one man using a chemical gas to make his victims panic. And the thugs weren\'t his men but they belonged to a cult. Scarecrow just happened to be a puppet they had to follow.

No over-the-top villains. No over-the-top anti-hero. Batman was a newb and was still getting his butt kicked most of the time by Liam.

Character development? Oh man. From kid, to angry college brat to thug to Batman. And I did like Katie Holmes\'s line. Bruce Wayne is a mask...while the real person was Batman, whom she truly admired.

Anyone else get giddy when [sp]Gordon handed Batman the Joker\'s calling card? And I like how his crime was not over the top. Just armed robbery. They picked the best actor for Commisioner Gordon. Well, he\'s nto a Commish yet....but will be. [/sp]

I was. I was like a freakin\' school boy just notified that school was out! :D

I got giddy as well. I also like how they delivered that part of the movie. I\'m just glad the movie wasn\'t f*cking cartoony and kiddy like the last 2 (especially the 4th film with George "F*ckhead" Clooney). It was very dark and very cool. I saw some chicks covering their eyes during some of the scenes with Dr. Crane. :)

well I finally saw the movie, it\'s all the rage around here since the training scenes were shot here in Iceland, that becomes a big deal around here, and I got to admit, it\'s funny seing a place you\'ve been to dozens of times being shown as a frozen hell on the big screen.

Now, for the movie itself it was a great movie for comic book geeks such as me but I did notice that people were starting to get bored during the first half of the movie.
I liked Scarecrow his mask was kick ass and I liked how he was rightfully shown as a wuss without his gas working. And I really loved when bats shot him with it and he saw his a a drooling batmonster that was truly great.
One thing I was always expecting and kind of hoping for was the kid that Rachel was holding once the gas was released on the city, he wasn\'t immune to it and I would\'ve been nicely funny if he\'d seen her as an horrible witch or something.

The hint of the Joker at the end was very nice, I\'ve heard people complaining that he wasn\'t the joker until he got his toxic bath but one can always say he wasn\'t the joker fully yet, but I hope he was. Having this truly insane wacko with no backstory and a fixation on batman without any reason would make him more mysterious and sinister.

Mr. Bale as Bats was great and compared to the other guys who were up for the role I thank god he was chosen.

ohh yeah there might be spoilers in the above text so watch out :p

I don\'t listen to reviews anymore. They\'re just bullsh*t opinions of someone that isn\'t me. I may like something that someone else doesn\'t. That\'s why we go and see movies to find out for ourselves. Our opinion is the only thing that matters when it comes to movies. Nobody can force you to like something. Ya know?

yeah, but usually rotten tomatos gives a fair opinion of the movie, and it only has a 30%.  Like you said, they are other people\'s opinion, if you are going to see it, you don\'t pay attention to them.  I\'ve been iffy on the movie and this doesn\'t bode well for me.  Maybe a few like-minded opinions here will sway me the other way but movies are expensive now and I\'m not willing to gamble on it.

Rotten Tomatoes is owned by IGN, I believe (don\'t quote me on that). In any case, I still stand by what I said, but I know what you mean. I use reviews as a reference, but I won\'t let it be the deciding factor of me seeing a movie. It\'s best to look at 4 or 5 reviews, not just one. Rotten Tomatoes is a pretty good source, though.

Yep.

I am sorry, but the \'Big Daddy\' zombie was annoying. The idea that the zombie\'s could get weapons was even more annoying. Yes, I know in \'Day of the Dead\', Bub learned to shoot a gun, but he was the exception. This one had one smart zombie who could teach all the other\'s things.  I could not help but roll my eyes at the way Dennis Hopper\'s character was killed.

Romero, I love your original trilogy, but you are a complete hack now\'a\'days. Your last films sucked and I remained hopeful that your newest \'Dead\' film could bring back the magic. It didn\'t. It only confirmed one thing, you are out of idea\'s and your time has passed.

Check out........

"Batman" (1989)
"Batman Returns" (Sequel by Tim Burton)

Keep in mind tho\', they really have nothing to do with the comics and at best, can be considered an elseworld story or very loose adapation for the non-geeks.

As for \'Land o f the Dead\', there is plenty of gore. I also liked Bub, but now just imagine they zombies are about ten times smarter than him..They carry weapons, they know how to get into buildings, even how to blow things up.

Well....I\'m late on this(as usual) but I rented the movie today.

I enjoyed it and thought it was good, however I can definitely see how some people might hate it.

It doesn\'t feel like a superhero-movie.Everything that happens in this movie could happen in real life and therefore when people go to see a super-hero movie to escape this world and  enter a magical one this might not be the movie for them.It was more like a action film wich starred a superhero.

Now before LIC comes barging in here screaming "OMG you obviously haven\'t read the comics!!!!!!" I can totally see how this movie divided the Batman fanbase into 2 sides:Burton or Nolan.

The Joker is hinted upon in this film but who can picture the Joker in this ultra-realistic Gotham City? They might have to change the Joker to make him a plausible villain in the next film.

Anyway...that\'s my take on things.

Plausibility is good in Batman\'s world, IMO.

The more realistic, the better. Even so, a lot of Batman Begins rides that surreal line.

Anywho, the Joker is just a crook with a sense of humor. His character would be easy to replicate in Nolan\'s vision of Gotham.

Now Clayface, on the other hand..

Jason Todd was a Robin but no one liked him and so people phoned in to have him killed. He went to find his mother in the middle east, ran into the Joker, tried to solo him, and Joker beat him down with a crowbar and blew him up.

I used to think that the Joker was some pussy foot villain who was just insane but the guy is simply the best villain of all time (with Luthor imo). Beating Robin with a crowbar, paralyzing Gordan\'s daughter, he just does it to toy with Batman and for the fun of it. His master plot usually comes back to haunting Batman, not some silly plan take over the city plan. Bat fights for justice and to make Gotham a better place to live, Joker is his opposite in every conceivable way.

And yeah I hope they have a good explanation for bringing Todd back. Like a clone or something to haunt Batman because that mother fucker should of stayed dead.

Yeah, after Dick grew up and became Nightwing.. Jason Todd became Robin. Not too long after his first appearance (was it 6 years?) there was a poll of the readers..

Which character should die? Readers could choose, and they chose Jason Todd.

I heard that Bob Kane was really pissed off about the choice.

LIC:

Was this movie based on a specific issue of the comic book?

And if it was.....SPOILERS!!!!!!!

Did you know that Raz Gull(sp?) was gonna betray Batman?

Because I\'ve never read/heard about Raz Gul before and that twist was a huge surprise to me in the film!

I guess his motive was to create a superhero that can restore balance in Gotham City by whiping all the scum out.But when Bale refused to kill that guy(at Raz Gul hq) Raz knew that Bale wasn\'t the man for the job.

Then he tried to restore the balance himself with that nuclear weapon.

Like he said:whenever a society enters a state of decadence the balance must be restored.

How deeply is Raz Gul discussed in the comics?

Thanks.

Ra\'s Al Ghul (sp?) is pretty involved in the comics (not just Batman but also JLA) but we get a slightly different version of him in the movie. Well, more like.. he\'s the same guy but his background isn\'t fleshed out.

i.e. Two prominent facts about Ra\'s is that he has a 20-something daughter, Talia, and he\'s possibly centuries old.. kept alive by using the Lazarus Pits. (which, in deus ex machina fashion, can bring pretty much anybody back to life.. even Jason Todd!) They don\'t mention any of that in the movie.

Ra\'s Al Ghul is basically Batman\'s equal in terms of intelligence, fighting, financially and so on. The movie got his character down flawlessly.

They kind of hinted to his immortality in the movie.

He looks very relaxed and unphased by incoming death on the railcar. He calmly closes his eyes and then the camera shows the crash.
