Title: EA lost millions this quarter.

Net revenue for the first quarter was $365 million, down 16 percent as compared with $432 million for the prior year. Sales were driven by Medal of Honor European Assault and Battlefield 2 -- each reaching platinum status (over one million copies sold) in the quarter -- and to a lesser extent Batman. FIFA Street, MVP Baseball 2005 and Need for Speed Underground 2 had continued strong sales, each selling over 500 thousand copies in the quarter.

Net loss for the quarter was $58 million as compared with net income of $24 million for the prior year.

By prior year, they apparently mean "same quarter, last year."

This is a press release from EA.

I\'m a little surprised and wonder if it had to do with the spending for the big sports licenses.

Interesting to see how much Madden helps to dig out EA. For such a big company, I\'m surprised they would run a quarter at a loss...

speaking of batman, i just rented it (heard that\'s all it\'s worth and they were right). Really fun game but definitly only the 4 nights it takes to beat it. And its pretty much mindless fun since it has a PoP feel to it, but nowhere near as hard/confusing PoP can be.

MVP being sold for like 30 bucks might have hurt too.

But mm is right. Theyll definitly make up for it with madden 06. Hopefully its a lot different gameplay from 05. First madden i really had a problem with it.

Last year they probably had more than battlefield 2, because medal of honor isnt anywhere near as popular anymore as something like battlefield.

I don\'t really like "champaign", but if you had "champagne" that would be cool.
