Title: Let\'s talk about the Star Wars PC Games
Post by: Sara on July 29, 2005, 07:12:07 AM
I know I could go to IGN and look all this stuff up, but I want you guys\' opinions.

So I played the first Dark Forces back in \'96 or so.  I really really liked it.  Still had a 486 66MHz at the time.

Dark Forces II, Jedi Knight came out.  I had to wait awhile to get a better PC.  Finally got the game...and I don\'t know if I was getting bored or jaded...but it just didn\'t hold my attention.

This is my pseudo-understanding:

FPS/Action

Dark Forces (played it, loved it)
Dark Forces II - Jedi Knight (played it, got bored)
Jedi Outcast
Jedi Academy

Driving/Flying
XWing, etc....don\'t care.  played one or two of these, nothing special

RPG
Knights of the Old Republic (just bought it yesterday, haven\'t opened the box yet)
KOTR2

I\'m looking for opinions or recommendations, and games I failed to mention.  Where does Battlefront fit in?  And am I the only person who didn\'t like Dark Forces 2?

The only pc SW game i played was Rebel Assault 2 back in 96 or sumthin. It was a decent, fairly entertaining game. Very linear , on rails flying/shooting though.

Better play the Rogue Leader games on GameCube or Rogue Squadron on N64.

I loved Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy even though I\'m not a fan of Star Wars at all.

JKII may be up your alley because the lead character is a girl.  I think you can even get a mod where she rides a pony.

Because all pony-riding girly games are at the top of my list...lol.

Thanks THX...thanks.

KoToR (1) is great.
Not so hot on the second one.

Jedi Outcast starts off slow, but if you can will your way through the first few levels it\'s one of the most enjoyable experiences with star wars I\'ve ever had.

KOTOR 1 is still one of the greatest games I\'ve ever played.

Other than that any of the Jedi Knight series are awesome. Jedi Academy was a blast.

Anybody else looking forward to this Star Wars RTS coming out?

Main problem with KoToR 2 is the whole eight hours of not havin\' a god-damn lightsaber. I mean, I already paid my dues, when I played the first 10 percent of the original KotoR, without a damn saber. I should start off at least with a friggin\' noobie saber in the sequel...Argh.

Oh and the fact they didn\'t improve upon the original\'s graphic engine, didn\'t help.

I hear ya. I ended up using a cheat code to get my lightsaber.

It didn\'t matter though... I lost interest about halfway through KOTOR 2 and stopped playing.

Part of what was so great about the first one was the twist near the end. You can\'t replicate that in a sequel and have the same effect.

I finally started playing kotor.  It\'s great so far (about 4 hours in), but it\'s taking me awhile to pick up on the die roll thing, and the feats, character levels, blah blah blah.  My biggest frustration is that I don\'t do very well in combat.  But maybe it\'s because I\'m only a scout level 4 or something like that.  I imagine I\'ve got a long way to go.

TIE Fighter is excellent but I have a new computer and the old version I have doens\'t work. I need to get the X-Wing Trilogy set that was made for Win 95-2000. I found a patch online but it is for those versions only. I can\'t even use my control stick on my new computer with the old TIE Fighter. It won\'t even read my sound card in my laptop. This sucks. It was one of my favorite games too :(
