Title: GPSQuestion
Post by: videoholic on August 01, 2005, 01:21:38 PM
I am pondering a GPS.  I have 2 different gigs that are out of town and I am becoming highly frustrated with not knowing where in the hell i am going.

That and having to get the front desk to print map quests for me is annoying as well.

Anywho..

I am looking at:

Garmin StreetPilot 2720:  http://www.garmin.com/products/sp2720/

and the Magellan 760: http://www.magellangps.com/en/products/product.asp?PRODID=1091

They both seem very much alike.

The Magellan has a 20gig drive though which to me seems like it has a heck of a lot more data onboard.

Either that or they got a good deal on the drives.  But the 700 has a 10gig drive so I have to assume they went up to 20 gigs for a reason.

The Garmin is only a 2 gig drive.

I can\'t tell if the Garmin is a hand held unit like the Magellan is though.  Haven\'t seen any shots of it in real life.

Does anyone know anything?

What are those things?  Is it for the car or something?

FOr the car mainly, but you can use them wherever.  THey\'re just good if you want to know where you are and where you are going if you are not in a place you know.

You should do this when you get your GPS:

Check this (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=226460) out.  Kind of dated but maybe a step in the right direction.

Let us know what you find, I need one of those bad boys too.  I don\'t particularly like the integration of them in newer cars, as they are fnnicky about letting you change/add the head unit.
