They\'re blaming this on hurricane season?
http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/energy/2005-08-16-gas-prices-usat_x.htm
Bullshit. We\'ve had hurricane season before and gas wasn\'t 2.50 where I live.
I love Wal-mart\'s quote in the article. Oh boo hoo, Wal-marts making 439827 billion instead of 532093 billion.
-
still cheap compared to the 80\'s
don\'t remember?
-
Meh...the 70\'s were worse. 80\'s was nuthin.
-
Remember this:

Well Ghettomath I\'m glad you at least didn\'t blame Bush for this one. :)
-
He was planning to.
-
funny how people don\'t pay attention to the past, just the present
-
The average price for US retail gasoline is now about $2.55, so the graph you posted is not current. It appears to be accurate, but it\'s not current.

At this rate, we will be back to that 1980s "Record High" and perhaps beyond $3.00 / gallon before long. By the way, we\'re at $2.74 in Los Angeles, and I just paid $3.05 for 91 octane a couple days ago.
-
$3 a gallan here. And job rate in this country sucks so bad how are people suppose to afford this. 38 dollars regular to fill up and explorer.
I spend 70 a week on gas sucks ass. I am going to park the car this weekend and take the bus
-
I rented a Ford Explorer last weekend for some outdoor activity, and before I returned it, I put about 3/4 of a tank of 87 octane back into it. That cost $47.00 at the cheapest place I know of. Haw haw, I\'m so glad I don\'t own a damn SUV as my only source of transportation. :)
-
I am going to park the car this weekend and take the bus
that\'s what you should be doing already
-
But no one has answered my question...
Why?
-
:stick:
-
please tell us then Ghetto since you have the answers
-
why..because oil companies are greedy and they know they can charge all they want and the public will pay.
but like mm said, in the old days people were complaining gas was too high, and it wasnt even a dollar..gas will always be "too high"..why? because you cant produce oil. Just dig it up. and inflation.
im not sure of the working world yet, but im kind of worried about the gas going up but the paychecks not, so it wouldnt balance out.
-
everything is going up, and I don\'t know about you guys but I don\'t see my pay going up at the same rate....
How can a middle class family anymore afford a decent home. A townhouse in my area is going for over 310k. A fucking townhouse. Pathetic :(
-
Get used to it. In 15 years you\'ll pay $15+ a gallon...
The oil new finds are getting smaller and smaller. Some of the biggest oil production rigs are over forty years old. There isn\'t much new oil to be found, but the demand is going UP UP UP because of improved standard of living in China for example.
Get used to it, because it sure as hell ain\'t gonna be cheaper from here on.
What I can\'t understand is why more nations don\'t experiment with the energi the earth can produce for you free of charge (solar, wind, wave etc.). Instead we opt for the scarse and polluting kind. Yay for mankind.

So looks like every forum I frequent has a gas rantig thread. Someone posted this:

interesting.

The refineries in Texas were shut down for repairs coz of that recent hurricane that hit there this summer. This drove up the price a bit in the US. Venezuela, OPEC and other oil countries aren\'t sucking up enough oil coz most refineries around the world are maxed out at production, and reserving too much oil (coz of the refineries) causes prices to go down. That\'s just one answer.
Then there\'s the artificial inflation OPEC likes to impose. Also, demand still exceeds supply despite the price increase.

This isn\'t why gas prices are high. Do you realize where most of the cost per gallon of gas goes? It is federal taxes and has always been this way!
Also Sammy brought up a good point - China. Up until recently, North America, Europe, Japan and Australia have been the main consumers of oil, but now with a billion Chinese able to afford to drive they are creating a demand that is putting a strain on the current supply.

Actually, according to the Dept of Energy, taxes do NOT make up the biggest portion of gasoline prices.

Big deal, 43 percent vs 31 percent based on a 3 year old average. Besides the oil itself its all taxes. In any case OPEC is the force that sets the market as Gman said.

Oh, sorry for the old data. Here\'s the current breakdown.

I think we should build an off shore oil rig in the Mediterrenean and siphon all the oil from the Middle East. We can use Cypress as a base for dirty oil and stuff. :p

At least I don\'t pout and stop posting for days when I am proven wrong eh Core?
Meh... nothing personal just sick of government bureaucracy.

I was in the Sequoia National Forest for a week. A post detailing my adventures will appear in OT as soon as I have my images and video organized.

Sounds cool, we need more travel posts.

Whoa whoa whoa. That\'s liberal talk Giga. You sure you\'re okay?
-
No its not, I hate big government.
-
Hey, I thought you worked for a government agency... LOL
Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution?
-
No one int the US except California should pay this much money for gas. Since California is taxed like a socialist country, due to all those sick illegals that need free medical care, they deserve to pay more.
Now, if every sane Californian was to report an illegal for deportation, you\'ll actually save money in the long run. You\'ll still have legal non-english speaking Hispanics who\'ll wash dishes and paint homes. They\'ll just have to work harder.
Miss Tique\'s parents should be trucked outta here, IMO.
-
What\'s funny is that I actually know a couple of illegals. I\'ll bet if I tried to rat them out to whatever official is supposed to be interested in this, he would probably say "yeah, and whudda you want me to do about it?"
I get the impression the INS is overloaded and probably has more than enough work with legal proceedings against the dangerous illegals. Too busy to bother with a couple of teenagers running a leaf blower. :D

Long story, but I will say I am not the one causing my own headace. This isn\'t a partisan issue at all, it is just government in general and their ability to make the simplest tasks so difficult.
-

HA! Leaf blower! The teen population here had problems getting summer jobs coz their all taken by illegals.

Gas prices are high because oil is in high demand from a number of new, incredibly populated markets ie China, India.
atleast that\'s what i heard, i shudder when i see the news and some old man says "oh it\'s gotta be the damn war in Iraq".

This is probably the worst case of comparing apples to oranges I\'ve seen. Comparing scope prices to gasoline prices?
Now I know why they say we came from chimps

You my friend, are a dumbass. It was done tongue-in-cheek. Get it? Eh..probably not.
-
...in Europe you have to pay 5.68 $ for the gallon ! (1 litre = 1,48 Euros here)
...and you tell us not to be fuckin\' upset ? We have to pay for your gov. faults too.
-
Our government, it seems that you always want to blame somebody elses government other than your own. Seriously find another forum to bitch at.
-
We have very high taxes... that\'s what I blame our gov. for. And there are many other reasons to do this. But I\'ve got the feeling, that YOU will never balme YOUR gov. for anything. Well G.B. is a Texasboy, isn\'t he ?
BTW: your Avatar suits you well... :p
-
This guy makes Mystiq look like a Rhodes Scholar.
-
Traslation pls...
-
you\'re a moron, and have little input for anything politically related
-
Thanks, same to you.
-
...at least i live in the country in question
how\'s the glass house, bro?
-
Actually I have yet to insult you so why must it come to that? Shows your level of competence. Seriously though I will blame alot of things on our president but not everything needs to be pinned on one person when shit hits the fan so go back to your little VW hole and stay quiet.
-
i have insulted him
nothing ticks me off like internationals who blindly hate bush cause it\'s the "neo" think to do and think they have a better plan.
-
Doesn\'t everyone have a better plan then us though? We never do anything right.
:sarcastic:
-
Guys, I don\'t (and will not) have anything against you. All I was saying is, that it makes me sick seeing the "mightiest" man in the world standing in Beloxi and just fakeing to take care. Why can\'t you both exapt, that I don\'t like him and his thoughts (hate is such a rude word). If you don\'t feel the same, it\'s your part. I was the one who gets offended, just by saying: "Get rid of this idiot". Maybe once I\'ll have the money to visit the US and maybe I\'ll show up @ your residences, let\'s have some beer than and a good laugh... you can shoot me afterwards. :p ;)
-
Look when you come in to a board with mostly americans and you come on pissing on our president, people will tend to get upset, to be honest with you how many americans actually know who the president of Germany is? Ok turn that around and I bet almost everyone in Germany knows who Bush is.
Thing is Bush may screw up, but thats human nature. I\'m sure I could pull up quite a bit of dirt on your president if you\'d like me to.
-
makes you sick?
why do you care?
bush and this "thoughts" have little to do with you
-
That\'s not correct. His and the gov. decisions do have affect on the rest of the world in many ways. Oil, war, food, money, medicine and so on.
Problems in the US aren\'t only "your" problems, but are global problems and if there is someone to blame, then why should I stop doing it ?
-
then blame your govt, not anyone elses
-
?
-
I could care less if he pisses on Bush, I can\'t stand him as our President, but if he is goin\' to do it, I expect him to at least have valid reasons. None of this cliche\' bullshit about Iraq and gas prices.
