The BMI is complete bullsh^t and is used only for those who don\'t do any kind of physical activity such as weight training.

And the only way you can accurately test your body fat percentage is with an expensive water weight test.

And why do you guys weigh so little? You need to hit dem weights!

I am. My legs are getting bigger! They don\'t look like wheel chair legs anymore! They actually have muscles now! WHOOT! Gym vs genetics : so far, Gym +1, Genetics 0. My family is cursed with chicken legs.

My point exactly. :) It doesn\'t take into account muscle mass. Actually, it probably doesn\'t take anything into account. There are so many different body types and the BMI is just...well it sucks.

5\'10", 158lbs, BMI=22.7 according to this thing.

I dropped about 22-24lbs earlier this year by improving my diet.  Now it seems to have stabilized around 157-158.

I also have a handheld body fat measurement device, but I haven\'t been monitoring it lately.

If you\'re using calipers it\'s better to go with many points like a 9 point test as opposed to a 3 point test.

Not calipers... it\'s one of those things shaped like a little control yoke that sends a tiny electric current through your arms.  I know it\'s not as accurate, but whatever.

The website has that comparison of the fat man and muscle man to explain what exactly BMI is intended for.

It\'s from their own website:

Common Myths
Myth: BMI Measures Body Fat

Two people can have the same BMI, but a different percent body fat. A bodybuilder with a large muscle mass and a low percent body fat may have the same BMI as a person who has more body fat because BMI is calculated using weight and height only.

These men have the same height, weight, and BMI, but may have different percent body fat.

 6\'3"  Height  6\'3"
220 lbs  Weight  220 lbs
27.5  BMI  27.5

This is a good reminder that BMI is only one piece of a person\'s health profile. It is important to talk with your doctor about other measures and risk factors. (e.g., waist circumference, smoking, physical activity level, and diet.)

Myth: BMI is a diagnostic tool

BMI alone is not diagnostic. It is one of many risk factors for disease and death. As a person\'s BMI increases the risk for many diseases increases as well.

Muscle weighs more than fat. And you have to eat healthy to maintain muscle with a good physique...so a fat person with the same BMI who\'s eating like sh^t to maintain their fat...well...

I am not happy with that. And it does not take into consideration the fact i lost 45 lbs when had the stroke, cause i could not eat solid food and ended up being fed through a tube for a month.

You were carrying a Dictionary when you stepped on the scale. You should be around 10 lbs lighter. :p

I\'m already on the line between thin and looking unhealthy.  I couldn\'t imagine myself 10 lbs lighter.
