Welcome to the internet.

"Return"?
Don\'t you mean "go"?
-
OMG.. I saw this like 100 years ago mm
-
its more of like a permanent mission instead of just playing golf and other dumb shit
-
they\'re still in search of the cheeze. I think the man on the moon ate it all.
-
Heh this country has way too much money. I want a $2000 debit card, too.

I still find it odd that men were sent to the moon back when computer\'s were less powerful than our calculators, but we haven\'t done anything remotely as cool as that for 35+ years (or just the same for that matter).
-
Terraform Mars while we\'re at it.
-
Terraform my ball sack while were at it
-
oh, didn\'t think they dropped yet
-
not terraforming, not cheese, not mars.. IT\'S TO FIND SAILOR MOON AND THE MOON PEOPLE!
-
NASA needs to let private firms handle this wasteful business of sending men to outer space. If science is its goal, it should be investing all its resources in unmanned probes, which actually get useful data and are firmly grounded on EXISTING TECHNOLOGY. For now, the only thing terraforming can do is to offer fantastical orgasms to the Comic Book Guy planted in us all.

because back then NASA was funded all the money they needed. Now they dont get nearly as much to complete missions so they have to do a 5 billion dollar project with like 2 billion dollars (numbers pulled out of my ass)..so they cut corners..which leads to small tiny ass parts falling off which ends up dissintegrating the ship.

I\'m guessing you have no clue just how many products you find useful today have come from NASA research.

So keep up the research. Just don\'t make manned missions the top priority.

Very interesting. Going to the moon again would be pretty cool. But I don\'t know why, maybe some new research or soemthing. Either way, it will be cool to keep updated on.
-
I remember a few years ago an article saying that strange things were noticed last time they tried to get out there and the astronauts were terrified.

uh.. research for manned missions is precisely what gets real products to people. it\'s because they try to make things that can be used BY PEOPLE! if all your research is concentrated on robots, the stuff you develop would only be applicable to robots! duh.

If NASA\'s main goal is to STUDY outer space, it\'d be much easier and cost effective to do so with unmanned probes. It would not have to worry about crew safety, could eliminate the need for oxygen and thus trim down vehicle size, and obviously could venture deeper and longer than with manned ships. The only "science" we have done so far with the shuttle and the international space station is what, growing soya beans in near orbit to use as possible food on future missions to Mars? I\'m sorry, but I\'m not paying $5 billion for Martian soy milk. Not to mention, conditions for outer space can be emulated right here on Earth. That\'s why I suggested that NASA cooperate with private firms on manned missions. What will sending people to space do for anyone if there is only one agency capable of doing it in the entire world? If a space travel industry is ever to be made viable, it needs just that - the industry. SpaceShipOne was the first step in that direction, and with help from NASA and more nurturing from private entreprenuers, access to space for the masses could be made possible just as public flight was made possible by the Wright brothers.

manned missions are kewl but

Two words.
Total Recall.
Er..uhm..nevermind, that was Mars.............
So..........How about we go to Mars, NASA?
Two words.
Total Recall.
:p
