I was formerly online quite a bit with my ps2, playing madden and all sorts of games back when i had dial up. about 6 or so months ago i got rid of dialup and got verizon dsl. all i wanna know is what i need to do to get my ps2 back online. do i need routers? i dont have a clue. all i know is that my computer is two floors above my ps2. all help is greatly appreciated!

yea, a router and an extra ethernet cable

You can plug it directly into the modem but then you lose internet to your computer. Just get a router. They are cheap enough.
-
lets see, i work at circuit city, i can get a router for around $40..does it matter what kind? and the ethernet cable.......do i need to run that whole thing throughout my house?
-
how far is your modem from your ps2?
-
my modem right now is two floors, 26 stairs above my ps2.

oh wow
man, you have work so I\'m assuming money isn\'t really a porblem. Buy a wireless router if you don\'t want to deal with long wires running through your house.

Id stick with a wireless G router. Linksys has always worked out great for me. You would nee the wireless game adapter too. When I bought mine, it was about $70.

wireless routers are great. You\'ll have to get a wireless router and a wireless access point (to plug the ps2 into).
It\'s gonna be a little pricier, but it beats running cat5 all over the place.

Right before wireless networking got popular, my dad & I ran CAT5 all the way from the 2nd floor to the basement. That was fun.
So our setup now is a wireless router on 2nd floor daisy-chained to a regular router in the basement. It\'s funny because our laptops can pick up a wireless signal just fine in the basement. But it gives me warm fuzzies knowing my consoles and htpc are getting a wired connection. :)
Also have one of those ~$70 Linksys G routers and it works flawlessly.

alright, so i need the wireless g router...not a problem, but you say i need the game adapter too? *starts crying* why do i need both? and is there any other option than a $99 game adapter?
-
That\'s the only way for wireless.
You can always just run cables throughout your house. It\'s cheaper and it works, but is very messy.

what all would i need for wired? im sure theres a way through the walls my dad could figure out...

A router and an ethernet cable. A really long one, like 50 feet.
