ipod battery isnt insanely bad. I go like a week..and whenever im sitting by my computer i just plug it in to the usb like i would with my cell phone charger so its no big deal.

but im not a fanboy of either..i just got an ipod for the student discount. My brother has a creative one http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=216&product=13805 that he likes (i think thats the one). Not sure of the gb, but hes the kind of person that does research when he buys stuff..

30 gb for an mp3 player is ridiculous... If I\'m in one place that long, its my computer, and that plays mp3\'s just fine... aside from that, I\'ll use my 500MB mp3 player while working out and I\'m happy with my 120 songs.

Your options are simple:

1) Creative Zen Touch 40GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16855102207) ($259.99)

2) iPod Photo 30GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16855101504) ($325.99)

Unfortunately iRiver doesn\'t make a 30gb+ player.  iPod batteries used to be crap pre-photo, but after personal experience it\'s safe to say it\'s decent now.

My advice:

- Go to CompUsa, they should have all players they sell on the shelf for you to play around with.

- Download iTunes and see if you like that software.  Not sure if Creative let\'s you download their music software unless you purchase their product.

noone needs to carry thier entire mp3 collection around in a device the size of a brick, or immediately needs access to 1000 hours of music

5-6GB is all you need at the most

I can see what you\'re saying, but i just want to be able to listen to whatever I want whenever i want. Have an hour commute to uni there and back every day, sick of wanting some AC/DC and only having a Nirvana MD, it\'s Hi-MD but thats still not enough storage. I\'ll check these ones out cheers guys.

non-replaceable battery for the loss
Title: Getting an mp3 player
Post by: nO-One on September 23, 2005, 07:59:47 AM
even if the battery was replaceable you\'d have to buy a battery from the company itself which would be overpriced, and replaceable batteries have a tendency to get lose.

Ohh yeah and go with the superiour UI ;)

Battery issues have been fixed for some time now. But I must admit, the video the guy made about the battery was well done! In fact, I own the same type of camera! :D Anyway, Apple listened and fix0r3d everything.

oh, the batteries arent soldered into the nano\'s anymore?

and not having to remove your thumb from the unit in order to find a song is hardly superior.  they dumbed the UI down so a child could use it.

any mp3 player is menu based....

artist --->  album  ---> track

how simpler does it have to be?
playlists on the fly? check
delete individual songs?  check
fm radio?  failure
battery loses charge?  buy new nano

Ontopic again ;

while i like Atrac3PLus\'s sound quality,

my Sony\'s NWE75\'s battery lid broke.

also, some water seeped in under the transparant plastic casing which corroded some spots. Ugh...Yes, i could use a new mp3 player as well..

Plastic getting scratched OMG how could this happen.
Apple get\'s flamed for everything yet Creative ships their players INFECTED WITH A FUCKING VIRUS and people let it pass.

Double standards are great aren\'t they.

Well, I\'m willing to give the Nano a chance.

I just read on Apples nano site that the equalizer settings influence battery life.

I was under the impression that stuff like bass / treble settings on other mp3 players do not influence battery life...... or is that incorrect ?
Title: Getting an mp3 player
Post by: nO-One on September 25, 2005, 11:33:48 AM
EQ settings require more processing so more more battery drain.
Title: Getting an mp3 player
Post by: videoholic on September 25, 2005, 12:07:11 PM
Well if you change the EQ to drive more bass it takes more power.

I assume you can also increase battery life by not listenening to it at extreme levels.

If it\'s the same material found on my regular ipod then I think it\'s silly for people to complain about scratching plastic.  I have a lil protective sleeve on it, here\'s an example of iskin\'s upcoming nano option:

Bought the fiance an IpoD shuffle for Xmas. It\'s the 512meg model, she doesn\'t need more than that. Only reason I went with the shuffle is because I\'m a cheap bastard... Personally, I have no use for an MP3 player, but she has always wanted one and I support Apple products.

Go OS X..../says this while surfin\' on his XP machine!

apple is gonna make a killing this holiday.  their smaller models are finally cheap enough to be a decent xmas present.  i know my sis is getting a nano because she\'s a spoiled rotten brat

Screw the Nano! It is still to pricey for me...Then again, I am getting a shuffle because of the fact it is the cheapest one and where I work, we can a discount on any Apple product.

I have to admit, the fact you can get free shipping , plus a special phrase / comment laser etched in the side is a sweet aspect of the iPod series.

Hah, check out what Creative is doing:

Creative debuts iPod lookalike; Will \'aggressively pursue\' patent (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/creative-debuts-ipod-lookalike-will-aggressively-pursue-patent/)

I\'m all for competition but what\'s with sueing companies over a simple navigational patent?  sigh..

That looks like one kickass mp3 player.

On size : Do you really need it to be any smaller than how it really is? Everyone is always bragging about how \'small\' their mp3 player is- who fucking cares anymore- they are no bigger than a pack of gum anyway.l

Then they bitch when they misplace it because it is so small. I\'m getting the Zen Micro because it is the perfect size, not too big, not too small. The size of a flip phone so it will be harder for me to lose.
