I just went and preordered my Xbox360. I saw the video of Madden 06 and that was it. I was already interested in Saint\'s Row but not enough to get a 360 at launch. Madden was the clincher. The game looks AMAZING. It looks just as good if not better than the commercial EA put out during the NFL Draft.
It seems like this always happens. I\'m not really interested in a console and then I see the first football game and get giddy. Damn you football, why must you have this hold on me??

doh..posted about madden the same time u did.
Some of the pictures are crazy..cant wait for this game.
The 2 pictures that look weird though is the portis one and vick. Vick is the size of culpepper and check out #59 on the cowboys could do 10000 pound squats. And im kind of iffy on the way their heads look. like mccown.
But the good easily outweigh the bad. The picture of the mexican stadium is mind blowing.
-
lol, it looks nothing like the commercial they aired during the draft
it\'s madden 2005 + 15% graphics
so you\'re paying 500$+ to play madden with slightly better graphics?
-
I\'m with you mm. Not a fan of EA or Madden.

seems like everyone has a problem with the graphics of every game so far that has been shown for the next generation. Think people have their expectations a bit too high...its not virtual reality yet.
-
Blame the PC industry for evolving too fast and especially Sony\'s demos at E3 for heightening expectations :D
Killzone, Motorsport anyone?
-
^too true

I\'m gonna blow my hundreds on PS3 and get better games :p Plus I don\'t like too many games on Xbox and the ones I do like are on PS2. Besides, MGS4 and GT5 people :D
-
Its ok Sam, I am thinkin\' about buying a Nintendo DS just for Castlevania.
-
Gamecube for RE...
Eh...
-
SHIT i already got mine coming. Told my cousin who\'s a manger at target. All I have to do is give her the money the night before and she will get it that night.
I can\'t wait and madden looks awesome on 360.
I\'ll probably get pd0 and madden.
I\'ll get a ps3 even if the launch games suck like ps2
-
launch games sucked?
which PS2 launch did you partake in?
-
think im just gunna rent the 360 from blockbuster a few times while i wait for ps3.
but ps2 launch didnt suck for me. Madden and gran turismo alone took up hours and hours of playing time for me.

Here we go again.......I\'ll bite tho\'.
Which PS2 launch did you partake in? Sure wasn\'t the one I did. The one where I bought it, tried out my games, said fuck it and went to bed dissapointed.
-
can attribute that to user error
-
Sure..
SSX
TimeSplitters
Summoner
RRV
Tekken Tag
Unreal Tourament
Sure, it was "user error". Could also attribute that to you have the blinders on.
-
if blinders = fun gaming, then yes!
SSX rocked, im sorry if you don\'t fit into the 95% demographic of gamers that loved the game (and curse EA for doing something different)
timeslitters got rave reviews, perhaps it was the 60fps gaming that threw you off
RRV rocked too
-
meh,..looks impressive but i\'m with mm on this one,...it\'s just madden with prettier graphics,..add to the fact that i\'m not big on madden\'s gameplay front the jump, *espn all the way!* and i\'ll pass on this one, and samauri, you don\'t have to get the 360 just for madden, i\'m sure this will be available on the ps3 with the same graphics......only game that\'s got my attention on the 360 is gears of war....

No, it was the simple gameplay and low res textures that threw me off. Sure, it was 60fps, but if you turn everything off, just about any game can hit that.

So the gameplay needs to be complex and it needs great graphics for it to be enjoyable?
meh, fuck it, I\'m going to play tetris.

No, but people act like Timesplittes and SSX was some great games that made a great launch and, in my opinion that is not the case. Timesplitters was a medicore FPS and SSX...Don\'t get me started on that.
-
I enjoyed the hell out of both, meh.
-
Ah, screw it. We\'ve been over this a zillion times since the PS2 launch. Nothing has changed. Opinions have not swayed and they will not. Why argue about it again? It can be summed up..
1: I was extremely dissapointed with the PS2 launch.
2: Some people enjoyed it.
Let\'s move on and be dissapointed with this generation.
;)
-
Well just put it this way: Would you pay $400+ just to play either Timesplitters or SSX with no other games to choose from?
They were fun but nothing special.
-
agreed (you\'re still wrong)

That is my point. Do the launch games justify the purchase? Now, I am not one to say there is anything wrong with being an early adopter, but I think a lot of times people spend the money and are blinded by that. They don\'t want to face the reality that they invested all this money into games that otherwise would be viewed as marginal.. However, a lot of comes down to personal taste. I for one, hated the PS2 launch and have had a sour taste for Sony ever since. On the other hand, I loved the DC launch.
-
Let me reiterate what I said, I enjoyed them. That does not mean they were AAA titles, matter of fact, they weren\'t. They were above average and I couldn\'t find anything similar to that on the PS1 or N64 at the time (I don\'t believe the DC had an SSX or Timesplitter equivalent either).
I also got my PS2 6 months after its release.
-
Ah, see let me point some things out there.
1: You avoided the PS2 launch. You didn\'t own a launch PS2. You didn\'t stand in a line. You didn\'t go thru the hysteria, the hype. That can effect an opinion one way or another.
2: The DC had Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur and House of the Dead 2. All three of those was excellent games.
-
I didn\'t avoid it per se, I just pre-ordered late. I also enjoyed summoner, so my expectations from a game aren\'t exactly stellar. I can find enjoyment out of just about any game.
I played house of the dead 2 in the arcades and I eventually had my soul calibur fill with the sequal on PS2. Maybe I expect too little and you expect too much?

Haha word. I went through all that crap, waiting 14 hours in line in the frosty late October cold. I bought into the hype and all that I got was a polished version of Tekken 3 and a pretty snowboard game.
If I had the ability to just walk into a store and pick it up I probably would have enjoyed em em a lot more. :p
-
Ps2 launched with bullshit. MM talks about everyone else as being sheep. Ps2 had a shitty launch. Nothing to warrant a purchase of the console at launch.
I got one because of hype. I had the thing and only game I played on it was TTT. Nothing else had me going. While I thought SSX was a decent game nothing special to have me going out and purchasing a ps2.
I am glad I don\'t whore myself out to one console company or I would have been one pissed off gamer.
-
well, if you don\'t own any dvd players at that time, uses the ps2 as a temporary dvd player would be a good excuse to get one.
I didn\'t even have a dvd player back in 2000, when the ps2 comes out. i also bought into the hype and planning on getting one. Good thing is i didn\'t bother to camp out, i wait till they are available, but turns out they are out of stock everytime i called best buys...
it\'s not until in summer of 2001 that i finally got a ps2 and i got the money from working summer job. I only have one game bundle which is GT3, and beside that, i use my ps2 to playback my PSOne games while the psOne console is back in the box and I let my sister borrowed it for her kids days later.
-
Ahm people take into consideration what the console is going to offer in its whole lifespan not what it offers at launch.
Early adopters or not its the expectations for the future the biggest motivation. Not the launch titles.
And thank God early adopters exist because a good launch sets future support
