The only difference is that the Bird Flu has killed thousands if not millions way back when so its nothing new.
-
Don\'t bother giving chicken "a miss" - you don\'t have a problem from consuming cooked birds, rather from handling/working them on a farm.

You mean the Spanish Flu?
They have traced the Spanish Flu back to birds, and I read somewhere that Bird Flu is related to the Spanish Flu which killed ~50 million peeps between 1918-1919.
-
Do you honestly think they would let something like this slip through and kill millions? Some giant company would jump on that and create a vaccine/cure, and make $$$ in no time.
I dont think we have anything to worry about.
-
(e), did you see The Constant Gardener too?
-
No.
What is it?

You guys eat parrots?

It\'s a movie by the same director who did City of God.

Without giving too much of the plot away, its focus is on what you said about corporations and disease being profitable.
-
The Bird Flew Virus has not yet mutated to humans yet. So you can\'t say it has killed thousands. So far, it has killed zero humans.

Not true, it has killed over 60 people in asia in the past 2 years or so. For it to transfer to humans isn\'t unknown, it\'s the possiblility of it jumping from bird to human, then human to human that hasn\'t emerged so far.
The real worry is that it\'s believed that this year is going to be a bad year flu-wise, one of the worst in recent times, and scientists are concerned that the bird flu strain could mutate with the human strain.
And the reason why they are really worried long term, is because there won\'t be any real natural immunity to it for us if it does ever jump the species gap.
-
Dammit. I\'ve already got a bad cough, if this thing hits me, I\'ll turn into the Spewing Phlegm Man.
-
I believe phlegm is a cold symptom, not flu.
-
I don\'t care what disease Gman gets. As long as he dies. :)

YOU DO NOT GET THIS FROM CONSUMING BIRDS! (http://www.ava.gov.sg/javascript/birdflu.html#FAQ)
The cases of this in humans is coming from farm workers and people in direct contact with *numerous* LIVE birds. You get this from inhaling or touching their feces or cages, not from eating them. Cooked = no problemo.
-
That sucks. I usually inhale bird feces on weekends.
Might have to change my plans for Saturday now.

\'Experts\' pluck Turkish chicken farmers (http://www.int.iol.co.za/index.php?click_id=29&art_id=qw1130433482762B236&set_id=1)
Istanbul - Thieves are posing as veterinary experts investigating bird flu to con farmers into handing over their chickens, a Turkish agricultural official said Thursday.
People claiming to be agriculture department agents have turned up in villages in the north-eastern province of Igdir to collect chickens for "tests for the presence of avian flu," local agriculture official Aysel Agayar told Anatolia news agency.
