Title: Music & Moments.
Post by: Living-In-Clip on November 05, 2005, 06:21:19 PM
Here is one for you. List a cd and / or a song that makes you think of a time in your life or specfic moment.

I\'ll start and give examples.

1: The Killers (Hot Fuss) - This time last year, my now fiance and I listened to this all the time. If for no other reason, because it\'s the only thing we could agree on music wise. So anytime I hear this cd, I think of a year ago, before she was pregnant and everything was "fresh and new".

2: Depeche Mode (Music for the Masses & Ultra) - I wore both cds out back in \'00 / \'01. I was constantly depressed as any teenager is and when it seemed everything was goin\' wrong, both cds gave me some kind of depressing comfort. Songs like \'Never Let me Down\', \'Barrel of a Gun\' and \'Useless\' took everything I felt and put it to music.

3: Any old Motown  - My father and I wasn\'t close when I was growing up, but I do remember his apperciation for old motown. To this day, I can\'t help but enjoy some Temptations or Four Tops.

4: A Perfect Circle (Vanishing) - I remember Capcom and I goin\' to see APC in concert late November of \'03. When this song came out it set the tone for a great weekend, one of the best of my life. Everything was perfect that night, as far as tone and setting went. The next day, I went ahead and done something I always wanted to do and that was skydiving.  To this day, if I need to get pumped up I listen to \'Vanishing\'.

I hate The Killers...in fact...their music invokes homicidal thoughts in my head whenever I hear it. But you have a memory attached to one of their songs, which makes it MUCH better...to you, at least. So I can understand.

Stabbing Westward (Waking Up Beside You) - Just...reminds me of my ex. In fact...most of their music has gotten me through many situations or affected me in some way (the old stuff).

Rage - Every song reminds me of my senior year in high school and my best friend alex. Hes in Austin right now I miss the guy, we used to work out and talk about religion and stuff. Everything really.

A Perfect Circle - (The Thirteenth Step) reminds me of playing elder scrolls III on my computer. I would just loop the CD and explore the crazily deep, large world.

A lot of songs go with games I played while listening to them.

BT (Anything off the \'Emotional Technology\' album) reminds me of the Time a spent in Canada for about 4-1/2 months.

Rob Zombie, \'More human than human\' reminds me of when I  got my first vehicle and used to drive my buddies home from school. We must have listened to that song 100 times when it first came out.

311 - Sweet.  "We parted much too soon, I know but that\'s how it goes.  There\'s someone better out there for you & me."

gh3y story but reminds me of this cute Ukranian chick I met one summer.  Gave her my # and she called back twice but we never hooked up.  She went back to the Ukraine when summer ended & never heard from her again. ;\\

radiohead- kid A...reminds me of when I first met kyoko, it was october 2000 and we went to Toronto a lot listening to it on the way there...

Also we saw a man jump off of the Burlington bridge on the way there while "Treefingers" was playing and kyoko almost pissed her pants...good times...

The whole Jim Croce album, Photographs and Memories, reminds me of my grandfather. We were listening to that tape on the car ride to the hospital the night he died. :(

Some songs remind me of when I used to listen to them. Some of the last few songs on Elv1s remind me of driving to work for a job I held a couple of weeks. I forget what, but there\'s a song or two, maybe by Live, that always reminds me of playing Top Gear Rally on N64.

Go figure.

I dig the 80\'s vibe the Killers try to pull off.
As far as it goes, I can\'t stand My Chemical Romance , but I can listen to \'Helena\' all day long, just because that was the first song we listened to in the car on our first date.

Someone mentioned Elder Scrolls III , I need to dig that game up. I kind of want to play it now.

I can recognize that. Alot of times in my life are \'labeled\' by all music I have listened to in my life.

It just happens. I guess the mind attaches it at own will.

Too much too name...

Cool thread idea...

Slayer - Payback : Reminds me of kicking this one kids ass. He was being a douche bag , so I knocked his ass out.

"This is for the mindfuck
This is for the hell of it
This is for me- I\'m going to
Tear your fucking eyes out
Rip your fucking flesh off
Beat you till you\'re just a fucking lifeless carcass"

Primus - Frizzle Fry : This album I associate the most with smoking marijuana. Probably the funkiest album known to man.

"I don\'t believe in charity.
I don\'t believe in sin.
And if you don\'t believe in me,
We\'ll play this tune over again."

Nine Inch Nails - Piggy : I went through a time in my life when I was really on a downard spiral. This song always brings out those depressing thoughts in me.

"Nothing can stop me now, Cause I just dont care...."

The Grateful Dead - St. Stephen : My father (deceased) was a huge Deadhead, this being his favorite song. I got a Grateful Dead record when I was young, and listened to it almost every day.

Lady finger, dipped in moonlight, writing "What for?" across the morning sky.
Sunlight splatters, dawn with answer, darkness shrugs and bids the day goodbye.

Ok ok... I\'ll list one ...

From April 04 until November 04 with Rome (Italy) vacation as the \'highlight\'.
- that time is very much connected for me to the Sheer\'s The Keyword is Excitement.

Basically..it began falling in love, getting rejected , getting vacation late, going on vacation by my ff-ing self as means to mend broken heart etc.

Yeah, it pretty much works that way somehow ; that album \'illustrates\' that timeframe for me alot.

Heh there\'s a Kanye West song that reminds me of a chick I was with for a little bit.

"Now I ain\'t sayin\' she\'s a gold digger..."

Here\'s one.

NiN - Hersery

I was raised as a Jehovah\'s Witness and my mother was heavily religious while I was younger. Now I am an athiest and have been since I was around 13. This song was the first one that really vocalized what I thought about the whole issue of \'God\'. While now that I am older I do realize there is more mature ways of voicing your opinion on religion ( as opposed to screaming, "YOUR GOD IS DEADDDDDDDDDDD"), still to this day, when I hear that song I think about the days as a Jehovah\'s Witness.

I like The White Stripes for that reason, because they have that older sound to them...and Depeche Mode. Hearing music like this almost seems fresh among the garbage being put out today.

Depeche Mode has that old sound because ..wel...They are PRE-80\'S!

I know. I was just saying. They haven\'t changed...which is good. Some bands have been around FOREVER.

A good 80-90% percent of the stuff played on Top 40 radio sucks today. Seriously.

For those living in the Boston area (BS and  a few others I know..) KISS 108. Enough said.

Do any of you ever wonder who Trent is really speaking to?  After listening to his latest album, I just get this freaky chill thinking about the content.

Not saying I dont love his music to death. I just see a lot of weird symbols that sometimes make me wonder if they\'re really supposed to be taken metaphorically or not. Probably why I\'ve always like his music.

His latest album was poor in my opinion. Pretty Hate Machine hasn\'t even been topped yet, probably never will be.

Too cut, too clean, no expansion musically, really linear, and frankly only a few songs I really liked.

So sorry that I made a typo.

P.S - If you listen to \'Pretty Hate Machine\' it is extremely dated . I would say either \'Broken\' or \'The Fragile\' is his best work.

Id say aged to perfection. :)

Its just PHM is so good.

I think it would be an awesome if he remade the album with a new darker feel, just a thought.

metallica- fade to black : I saw the video of james getting fried from the pyrotechnic, every time the solo in the beginning of the song ends i think the last notes just gunna keep going and everoyne else will stop playing like the video.

System of a Down- Toxicity: the whole cd just reminds me of sophomore year in high school. nothing into the meaning of the songs but just the how the songs sound in general.

Megadeth- countdown to extinction (whole cd)..playing doom as a young lad listening to megadeth.
