I\'m curious to see how many (there\'s like 25 of us that post here, right?) of you guys have done this?
-
i have never downloaded an mp3 illegally
my musical interests are far too narrow to not give money to the artists for thier work.
-
I have but I do usually buy them too. I like to download to listen to how they are and decide if I want the CD or not. If it sucks, then no but if its good then yes. That is how I buy my CDs. Why put my favorite bands out of business by not supportin ghtem
-
If it\'s not on iTunes I go Bearshare.
-
I do when I can.
Why not.
Its there, its free, its easy, and its convenient.
Boohoo those poor little artists..cry me a god damn river.
-
MP3\'s would have never hit it this big if they hadn\'t been free.
-
I usually download MP3\'s to see if an artist (or album) sucks or not. If they don\'t, I usually go out and buy the CD. But, I download a lot of RARE songs that can\'t be found on any CD. MP3 sharing programs are good for that.
-
So....What songs can\'t be found on cds? Other than live songs - which is bootlegging still.
;)
-
jumpman, how about some artists walk into your hovel and just take stuff just because they can?
-
A lot of bands also became more renowned because of file sharing.
-
you mean, like metallica?

I\'m talking about rare remixes and various compilations that were never released. Or just songs or albums that are impossible to find. And yes, I\'m aware that this is still "illegal", but whatever.

I don\'t mean like that. I meant like local bands made it big through file sharing.

Linkin Park got big through file sharing. They themselves were distributing their songs this way.
-
I know that Radiohead\'s Kid A benefitted from file-sharing back in 2000.

lol, an up and coming artist distributing thier music thru the web and such and thieves stealing music thru kazaa and such are two completely different animals

But they can only make their living if you buy the album...

Every album has benefits from sharing networks, but the artists themselves have been hurt.
I have downloaded a few MP3\'s, mostly live/rare stuff though. I like to support my artists I enjoy so much.
-
Every album, right. It\'s documented that the leak of Kid A is what helped it to debut at no.1, though.
-
theinquirer.net report that?
-
I heard that artists don\'t get much through record sales but make the bulk of their money through concerts.
-
We pay a tax here on all CDs, DVDs, and HDDs that goes towards the recording industry, and the copywrite board rules that downloading here for personal use is not illegal - but sharing is.
So no. I haven\'t :D

A lot of the small time artists say the studios won\'t spend much money on them at all if record sales are so-so. One of my favorite artists said in an interview that his producer wouldn\'t pay for a full band for his national tour, due to lack-luster CD sales.
My rules are:
1) Favorite artists, f8ck it and buy the entire CD.
2) Dig the artist somewhat and they\'re small-time, buy the CD, or track(s) off the internets. Support them and they\'ll make more music.
3) Hate the artist but they have a few good tracks, Bearshare. Kanye West is a homo but Gold digger is catchy. No way I\'m giving that loudmouth $$ though.
-
I used Napster when it first started, but I haven\'t downloaded an illgal song in years. Now I buy my shit. :)
Let\'s hear it for music download stores.

Pretty much how I am. I would use iTunes but it is way too expensive to download a song. If it was dropped, I probably would download by paying. I mean, by the time i download a few of aband\'s songs, I may as well buy the CD.
-
Too expensive to download a song? 3 songs cost $2.97. Do you know how much it costs for a band to purchase intruments/sound equipment, rent a recording studio, fund their illegitimate children?
Even further, of the $.99 you pay for a song, a percentage of that goes to your credit card company, to Apple\'s Fairplay store, to the music production studio, and then finally to the artist. Not a big sacrifice on your part imo.
-
Yea seriously. I went to Toronto and the Falls and out of all of the thousands of Canucks I saw my bro & I only counted TWO black people. I\'m scared of them as the next person but how boring it would be if there were none around!

Do it.

I usually buy albums off of itunes now. So far I have spent $450 on itunes....
-
$450 songs you like.
Back in the late 80\'s, I spent well over $2000 on CD albums and only a fraction of those tracks had songs I liked.
$.99 per song you like, is not a bad deal.
-
haha you two crack me up. =>
-
I want my $2000 back.

I was joking. Damn.

It\'s your damn fault for taking everything so seriously. I\'ve gotten used to your gullibleness that it\'s kinda confusing when you make a joke.
Hell, you got a couple of other people confused on the other forums. Don\'t make me link it! :p

Dude...I\'m always sarcastic. Just remember that and you won\'t have any issues. Jesus.

And they don\'t understand that I\'m always sarcastic. Maybe I need to start adding some sort of smilie to every one of my posts to point out my sarcasm. It\'s not like I can express my posts through use of my voice. Also...you\'re a dumb ass. I was insulting Miss Dick and it was obvious...and then you interfered with your cluelessness. Go DIE YOU FUCK!
