I\'ve been downloading files and a lot of them are corrupt for some reason, but when I download these files on another computer, the files are fine. There must be some sort of problem occuring during the download process. Does anyone know how to address this issue?
-
Put it in the freezer.
-
damn, maybe your HD is screwing up? bad sectors er something... is it old?

On the contrary, brand new. Hitachi Deskstar 500 GB Sata-II HD.
I think it has more to do with the internet connection, but I may be mistaken. I\'m having a computer tech come over and check it out tomorrow.
-
Well tell us what the solution is, curious to know
-
Yes, and curious to know how much your getting it up the butt on cost to fix it/look at it.
-
heh.
He said Deskstar...Also known as....DEATHSTARS.
Your HD could very well be the problem. They are known for issues right out of the box.
-
That\'s not good. Well I\'ll find out officially on friday.
-
For your sake, I hope it isn\'t the HD, but I do know that earlier Deskstars was terrible about failing on people right out of the box. Hopefully that is a problem that was corrected with these new models.

For some lame ass reason, when I use Firefox for downloading videos, the videos usually end up corrupt...unless I use the Download ALL feature (or extension). I don\'t get it. But all other files seem to be fine and the videos are fine when downloaded in OTHER browsers. Anyway...that\'s probably not related to your issue, and I also hope it\'s not your HDD.
-
I hate when that happens but I only had that problem after I realplayer somehow got selected as the media player.
On my laptop I don\'t have any problems with my downloads with firefox
-
I don\'t even have real[crappy]player and it still does this. I dunno what the deal is.
-
Now I have bigger problems. I was checking things out in my computer, and actually put more memory in, but now for some reason my computer doesn\'t turn on. I\'ve been checking to make sure everything is connected to the power supply, and everything is. I just don\'t get it, less than an hour ago it was working and now it doesn\'t even power up.
-
God hates you?
-
That sucks.
how much more RAM did you put in your motherboard?
-
2 GB, but it supports up to 4
-
Tell your nerd friend to bring over his PC so he can start switching parts to see which is the culprit.
g\'luck
-
You think one of the parts in my computer may be preventing the computer from even powering up? If that\'s the case its most likely the RAM, but there\'s no way for me to be certain at this moment, I\'ll try putting the old RAM back in tomorrow.
-
if it isn\'t even switching on i\'d check the powersupply. You didn\'t accidentily switch the button on the back did you? There is also a voltage selector switch, make sure that is right as well.
-
Did you try just your old ram?
-
Computer guy is coming over tomorrow, I\'ll let him decide. Would be a shame if the computer is busted, its brand new, and I invested a LOT of money into it.
-
It\'s probably the RAM you put in, I had the same problem.
-
really, computer wouldn\'t even turn on?
It doesn\'t make sense though, the model I put in is exactly the model in the book. Could it be defective?
-
Possibly.
I did the same thing you did.
I had 1.5g of ram. I went to add another 512 of the exact same RAM and after I did the thing wouldnt even start up.
Took out the RAM I had just put in and it started up fine.
-
Did you ever figure out why that was happening?
-
a) You didn\'t make sure the RAM was installed tightly
b) You got some faulty RAM
c) You b0rked your PC while it was open
-
lets hope its not C, cause a and b are easily fixable
-
It was B in my case.
-
w00t! I got it up and running, and better than ever. My compy is a beast! So happy with the end results.
-
UM. OK
-
What did you do?
-
yeah, it\'s bad form not to tell us how it was fixed
;)
-
He doesn\'t want to admit it was unplugged the whole time
just kidding
-
Actually, it had nothing to do with the memory. One of the wires was connected to the wrong thing, and when I removed it, it solved the problem.

Must be one of those led thingy wires...like the HDD led, power led, etc...I think that happens to me before...
