I read that PS3 can do 256 GFLOPs (billion of floating points per sec), 1.8 TFLOPs (trillion of floating points per sec), and even 2 TFLOPs.
So, which is it?
How many is that compare to PS2 which I believe PS2 does only 6.2 GFLOPs...
-
how many floating points? toss it in a pool and see how much of it stays above water. ^_^ if you\'re saying "how many floating points", chances are you don\'t know enough for it to have any meaning to you. don\'t worry about it.

So many tech questions....which none of them give really usefull insight.
I wanna know things like ;
- vertex fillrate to gauge how many polygons and curved surfaces it\'ll do within a realtime game engine.
- how many lightsources it can use ingame and what shadowtechniques can be used.
- what programmed/scripted shaders and deformers can be used ingame.
raw numbers say very little...
-
im going to say...67

Paul: You might be getting confused because PS3 uses a scaling architecture.

There\'s your answer. The PS3 itself will top out at 2TFLOPS total (RSX + 1 Cell) but Cell workstations and processing farms may contain upwards of 100-1000 Cells. I\'d suspect that future supercomputers may take advantage.

Is that a salami hanging above that graphic?

Yeah, better eat it up quickly before some dude pops it into....
-
They should have had a PS3 in the Titanic.
-
The movie ?
-
The read that the CELL chip can do around 256 GFLOPS...everything else seems like inflated bullsh^t.
-
Yea but the PS3 is backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 so if you add all that up it\'s 2TFlops
-
2TFlops sounds like titty flops. I think the PS3 needs a good bra.

LOL.

FLOPS=floating operations if I am not mistaken?
-
FLoating Point Operations Per Second.
(I knew that. Remind me not to post directly after I get up.)
-
I believe the actual words for FLOPs are floating-point Operation Per Second. I didn\'t know there is a word "operation", but there actually is a word "point" in there. I guess its more memorable to inital the words as FLOPs instead as FLPOPs. I guess that\'s why the initial for "p" is omitted.

Blade just said that.
-
I think it stands for floating point operations per second.

Oh, I am sorry Evis. I didn\'t notice Blade said that. I checked Blade\'s post and on the bottom, it said "Last edited by Blade on 11-10-2005 at 12:29 PM" which is about over 3 hours after i said that when he edited it.

No the real deal. Sorry, a lame attempt of trying to leech of Avatarrs joke. :D
Hmm now when you mention it, but the PS3 might have improved the CG in the movie. ;)

Well, what\'s with these lame jokes lately btw ?
I spotted this trend here earlier in other threads. Quite lame imo.
-
Sorry .. wont happen again :(
-
Well, i don\'t perceive it as SOOO problematic..
But i have a feeling some of you guys talk on AIM or msn or whatever, decide on a joke and then each of you consecutively post a part or a few words from the joke in a thread.
If THAT\'s supposed to be the new kind of \'adult humor\' ; sorry, but it looks really teenage.
... or i\'m uber supersuspicious...
