I got this little whodunit mystery game from a different forum that was just posted just about minutes ago. I read it and I haven\'t really figure out who done it.
I thought it was interesting and would like to share it here to see who can really figure out.
The point of this is to use the clues to help figure out who is the murder and how you came to this conclusion. Simple right? Heh, not quite. Without futher ado, here are the Clues that have been given:
__________________________________________________ ____________
CLUE 1 : (from the murderers perspective)
We all have to do things we don\'t like, sometimes. I do mine lovingly. Like an artist. It\'s funny though, I
considered her a masterpiece. I knew her though, better than her family, friends from highschool, or lovers. They
probably couldn\'t describe the way she walked, or how her collarbone curved, and these things are infinitely more
important than where she went to college.
I am an artist. I sculpt my work after beautiful things.
CLUE 2: (cops perspective)
6 PM in the evening, with blue and red sirens wailing towards the murder scene. We knew we were going to have to
deal with more paperwork. Another long night. But these things happen. I knew that the day my first day on the
force. After 20 years though, you learn to separate yourself.
"Mmm," my wife would nod, when I told her over dinner later. "What a shame. Such a young girl."
That\'s how it is, and that\'s how people are. We\'re just as guilty though, discussing a dead girl over dinner and not
feeling queasy as we take a second serving of steak.
But that isn\'t how it panned out. That night I never actually went home, like I said, paperwork. I have to admit,
for the first time in years, I was a bit creeped out. There was no blood, fine. The nutjob who did it was just
careful. But the creepy part was how she was lying there. Every strand of yellow hair in its place, her feet and
hands positioned comfortably, draped in pristine white sheets. The cleanliness of it all disturbed me most.
CLUE 3: (boyfriend of the victims perspective)
I miss my girlfriend. Going to sleep is impossible now. You know they found her in our bed? The sicko actually put
her in our bed. I\'ve been staying with my mom, I don\'t know what else to do. This one officer, Officer Riley, well
he told me that it looked pre-meditated. What if the guy is coming after me next? What if it\'s someone I know? What
if they don\'t catch the guy? Landlord tells me if I move out nobody is going to rent the place for months. Apartment
74 is cursed.
Everyone I see though is a suspect. There is this creepy old guy down the hall, Donny or something, well I can\'t
stand the guy. He paces at all hours of the night when everyones asleep, and I can hear the creaking. That\'s been
keeping me awake too, the godawful creaking. It never used to bother me, but now it is like a drill to the head
everytime he moves.
He always looked at my girlfriend weird. If you ask me, they shouldn\'t be questioning normal people, because its
someone like him that did it.
CLUE 4: (officers perspective)
The boyfriends a nervous guy. He came home that night, while we were searching the apartment. He demanded to know
what we were doing, like any reasonable man would want to know. When we told him he broke down and cried, like any
reasonable man would. But in his normal state of mind, he\'s like a nervous bunny. Too much black coffee, maybe. They
had a nice place; modest and comfortable. The girl liked the color violet a lot. Good family and a lot of friends.
Popular couple. Mostly because of the girl, though. Bunny\'s too chaotic.
I like him though. He\'s easy to deal with, even with the anxious air, not like the neighbor who called in the
murder. I heard a thump, she said, pointing dramatically to the girls apartment. She was one of those neighbors that
enjoyed this sort of thing.
"Mmm," she would say over dinner with her husband. "What a shame. Such a nice girl."
I could picture her telling her friends excitedly what happened, stretching the story a bit more each time. "Yes,"
she would whisper devilishly. "The poor dear was torn to bits."
CLUE 5: (neighbors perspective)
The cops came rushing in like on TV, it was amazing! But don\'t tell anyone that, I\'d hate to sound like I was glad
it happened. But it\'s such a thrill! Sometimes I think I should have been a cop! She was a lovely girl though,
always bringing me my mail and talking with me between this, that and everything else that had to be done. Busy
kids. My husband is a bore, but don\'t tell anyone that either. Our kids are grown with families of their own, and
dear Herbert is retired. But that doesn\'t mean our lives have to be! So yes, I admit that I find excitement in this
sort of thing, only because I think I am a great detective. If the cops in this town had any merit, they\'d ask for
my opinion!
"Mrs. Foster," the handsome O\'Riley would say, "we don\'t know who killed the pretty young girl."
I knew they would need my help. "I have a sense about these things," I would respond.
Lowering his voice he would whisper, "Yes, we know. That\'s why we need your help." My help? I am very flattered,
Officer.
"Yes," I would say confidently. "I know who did it." Oh Herbert, who knew you had it in you.
CLUE 6: (officers perspective)
"Listen lady, we can\'t field your calls about this thing all day. Our officers are working on it." That old bag Mrs.
Foster that always wears the ratty green dress won\'t stop calling us with a new suspect everyday. Yes, Mrs. Foster,
we get it, you watch too much Law and Order. The Queen of Gossip telling us how to do our jobs, I\'m not surprised.
But, I will admit we are running out of leads. Our first one was naturally the girls family. Nice bunch, but
deadends. Not that I\'d want it to be her direct family, but this old mans getting a little tired pounding the
pavement all day. Too young for retirement, too old to keep seeing people kill eachother. Bunny is an interesting
fellow but we have nothing on him. He can\'t sleep anymore. Shame.
We\'re going to be looking into the guy down the hall more. It\'s a stretch, but he makes everyone feel a little on
edge.
: CLUE 7: (Donny\'s perspective)
You wanna know who I think killed the broad? If you ask me, it\'s the establishment. What I mean is, the city cops
are a bit rough around the edges. Nothing is as it seems, everythings in limbo, kind of getting mixed up in this
gray area. So look at the details, gather your own thoughts. You know, people call me crazy, but I\'m not. I see
things that go on, I know a lot more than anyone here. You gotta look.
It ain\'t the boyfriend, have you seen that guy? Then there is her family. They loved their little girl, a family
like that don\'t want their little girl to be hurt. Mrs. Foster is pretty crazy, last I heard she thinks her husband
did it. What woman stays with a murderin\' husband, I don\'t know. Heard the girls body was clean except some
incisions, like a pro did it. Most people don\'t know this, but I\'m a med school dropout. If they asked me too, I\'d
take a look. Tell \'em whether it was an amateur or not.
But listen, I got something that nobody else knows, because I\'m the only one who is roamin\' the halls all night. I
can\'t tell the cops because things happen when you rat out on their buddies. Maybe you can help me out. Listen
carefully, the cop knew the girl. They knew eachother before he started workin\' on her case. Boyfriend works
graveyard shift right? Hardworking guy. The murdered girl all alone in her apartment, waiting for her tough cop hero
to come and visit her. But only on thursdays, only on thursdays at 3 AM. I don\'t know why, so don\'t ask me. Ain\'t my
job to know.
CLUE 8: (officers perspective)
Dead leads, not sure where to go from here. Toughest case I have had in all my years on the force. It makes me red
with anger just thinking about it. I feel so out of control. Nobody should die like that. He did a good job, I\'ll
give him that. It makes me sick saying it, but sometimes these things happen. I learned that years ago.
I\'m getting a little desperate though.
__________________________________________________ __
Tough eh? The writers have told that all the info is in the text and there are no previous motives not revealed in there.
They have also given a hint and said they will give more. Here is the hint they have given out already:
[sp]Hint 1: Add it all up[/sp]
Maybe that\'ll help? Heh Good Luck and post your answers!
-
man what
edit
oh btw
clue # 1 is the murderer because i am base like that
-
Thats what I was thinking too.
-
Cliff notes, please.
-
[sp]Is it the cop\'s wife?[/sp]
-
It was professor Plum in the library with a candlestick.
-
There is this creepy old guy down the hall, Donny
My guess is him.
-
What forum you get this from anyway?
-
Where do I get to know that my answer is correct?:p

Your avatarr remind me of Overdrive Ostrich from Mega Man X2 for SNES. That game rocks for its time.
The answer haven\'t been given out yet. After reading it several times, I thought the cop was the murderer, then I thought it might be the boyfriend...but you said it\'s the cop\'s wife...so I think it might be her too...I don\'t know actually...
Why I thought it wasn\'t Donny because that would be too obvious and not really much of a suspense. From Clue #7, Donny said the girl\'s boyfriend works at graveyard shift which is late night and early morning shift. So I thought maybe the Cop came to visit her at 3 A.M. in the morning while her boyfriend\'s away. Then he probably killed her, then left the scene or something. Or maybe the boyfriend murdered her and pretend that he was with at his mom\'s house the entire time.
But I got stuck though.
When you say it maybe the cop\'s wife. Reading it again, it does seems like her done it though. And thinking about it does make sense. Maybe the wife\'s jealous that her husband is cheating on her. So, while he was cheating on her that early morning, then goes to work that afternoon. The wife took advantage of the time where the husband is at work doing paperworks. She came to visit the girl. Then she killed her, not sure how though. Maybe she is experienced with autopsy or something. After she killed her, she make it all clean with pretty much hardly any evidence left behind.
Then she came back home. Then in the evening, the cop came home from work and have dinner with his wife. The way the wife responded to his story is really quite suspicious.
so maybe she did killed her. Unicron might be right. But what still put me in question is how did the wife did it?

She knew Donny probably ;)
Not his job to know he sais but he knows some details.
So it could be both Donny`s and the cop`s wife work.
Also bare in mind that the murderer is calm. The murderer liked what he/she did.Donny might have helped the wife kill the girl because she believed the cop was cheating on her with that girl. But Donny could be the cop`s wife`s lover. He is trying to throw the blame on the cop too so both he and her could run away with it

Wow. You are really good at solving mystery. You might be right about the killer is Donny after all and the wife\'s also involved.
Funny, the very first time I read it on the other forum, I just go with the obvious and think it\'s Donny. But then I read it over again, and over again, then I ruled him out because i thought that would be too obvious...
Even though I haven\'t confirmed the answer yet, but Damn Unicron, you have some thinking skill. What you said really makes sense.
-
[sp]Just a wild guess given the circumstances.. the boyfriend. Or possibly one of the neighbors (not Donny)[/sp]
-
the cops were at the scene at 6pm and the boyfriend worked the graveyard shift. Im not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it may be a clue (considering it says "add it all up")
Also, from the murder\'s perspective, he/she knew her better than family, friends, and lovers. That leaves out the BF, cop, and any family members. Could be the nosey old lady or her husband in the building.
-
It was all of em!
-
Or none of em!
-
I say boyfriend cause if he was working the graveyard shift why did he show up that night. he should have been at work. and only the boyfriend and the cop would know she went to college let alone where she went to college the cop might not have know but the boyfreind deffinantly did.
-
Btw what exactly does someone do who is working at a graveyard shift?
-
Work overnight...
-
I mean what does he do exactly?
-
any job where you work overnight is considered the grave yard shift
-
My thoughts:
I think she killed herself out of self hate that she betrayed her boyfriend with a cop. She didn\'t know the cop was in a relationship and she recently found out he was married. She could\'ve found out through Donny since he seems like the old man that fiddles and snoops around discreetly. I wouldn\'t put it past him that he might use his infatuation with his neighbor as an excuse to look out for her and find out the scoop about who she plans on breaking up with her boyfriend over.
Edit: Read more into it, and here\'s more thoughts.
I really think the first clue is her speaking, but not about herself, the person who was murdered, but about someone else. She says
Like an artist, she does things lovingly... she killed herself out of love to be like a Shakespear novel. She\'s probably describing the officer\'s wife in the context about how much she knows her. The wife might have been her friend or someone she knew.
Note also, for whoever mentioned that the conversation over dinner seemed strange, that it didn\'t actually happen. He said usually, that\'s what would be the norm.

Anyway, it\'s confirmed that your answer is correct now. When I posted your answer on a different forum, the topic starter responded this:
"Clever and well thought out. One thing though, the author of the poem did say there are now grudges unknown to the audience and all the info needed to solve the mystery is within the clues. So to say something like "maybe she know about autopsy" i believe is not how to answer the riddle."
So you were right that Donny & the Cop\'s wife are the one behind this.
-
This is my response to him:
Oh, thanks. But I didn\'t really figure it out. A member from a different forum did.
yeah, when you wrote "The writers have told us that all the info is in the text and there are no previous motives not revealed in there." I kind of realized that is actually the real hint there, not add it up hint which isn\'t really much of a helpful hint...The authors are actually clever how they give out the hint and even the mystery story is really slick too.

You make interesting points there, but I am kind of lost what you meant though. When you say she didn\'t know the cop was married, I doubt that since he\'s quite old actually. I would assume she\'s in her early 20s and he in his 40s. So by that age, one should be skeptical if he is married and have kids yet.

Really interesting and good points too. Especially the conversation between the cop and the wife never took place. I didn\'t thought about it before. That could be true. I am going post that later in the other forum to see how the topic starter respond to that.

You\'ll be surprised how naive women can be. I just had a girl in my school go through that same shit, been with her BF a year and JUST found out he was married. It caused enough sorrow so I guess for someone it may lead to suicide.
Can we check the answer now?

Cant you read?

Lies!
I see no explanation.
-
Okay, okay. It\'s official. The writers themselve, not the topic starter from the other forum finally have revealed who is the real killer...and a surprising strange twist that is.
I thought for sure it was Donny and the Cop\'s wife after what Unicron said really makes sense.
Anyway, the writers have finally given us the Final Hint:
[sp]Its easy as 1, 2, 3[/sp]
and the real killer is...i am just going to copy and paste what the writers wrote.
THE ANSWER!
As said by the author:
"The way the mystery was written was to have several conflicting points, so that everyone was guilty. This was because there were only the following suspects:
-The cop
-Bunny (the boyfriend)
-Donny
-Mrs. Foster
-Herbert Foster
Naturally with all the users that participated, there was going to be an issue if we simply asked *who* did it, since all five people would be guessed quickly. Motive was thrown out because of all the confusing evidence, so we decided to ask for HOW you came to that conclusion instead.
Let\'s refresh our memories of the additional hints we gave later on:
"Add it all up"
"It\'s easy as 1, 2, 3"
So here we go... time to pick apart the thing that drove you all nuts for half a month!
We were hoping someone out there would think along the lines of numbers & colors, rather than speculation like "so & so having an affair with so & so..." - I guess nobody is as familiar with this style of writing as I thought they would be. The clues are just a lot of writing that doesn\'t need to be there, so it is.
Colors:
Blue sirens (clue 2)
Red sirens (clue 2)
Yellow hair in its place (clue 2)
White sheets (clue 2)
Violet interior (clue 4)
Mrs. Fosters green dress (clue 6)
Red with anger (clue 8]
Total: 7
Numbers:
6 PM in the evening (clue 2)
20 years on the force (clue 2)
Apartment 74 (clue 3)
3 AM visits (clue 7)
Total: 4
You could add up the numbers, but you are left with 103 which leads to nothing. Instead, we wanted someone to put together the 7 and the 4, and say woah "Apartment 74". That\'s where Bunny lives. So yes, it gives you the answer, albeit an abstract one.
Who knows but... sorry we made it so hard"
-
So, it\'s way over my head too. Let me clear up somethings too, So the first Hint they gave: Add it all Up is actually a hint, but i thought the real hint was "there are no motives not revealed in there, is all in the text..." I was wrong there. Edit: actually, by text I think they mean the "text" from the color, which could be a hint too.
Oh my goodness...I just realized Jar O Pickles is more intelligent that I thought. He\'s the quiet type of person. But when he did chime in, wow, what do you know. He gave very good inputs And he got the answer right that it was the boyfriend, even though he didn\'t really figure out the total times the color were mention or the numbers or the clue like none of us did. But he was right it was the boyfriend and reading his post again, he did give a good reasoning why...
Originally posted by Jar O Pickles

Beside Jar O Pickles, Blade, and MPTheory also guesses it was the boyfriend too although along with the neigbhors. That time when I read their answers, I thought, nah, it couldn\'t be the boyfriend and the neighbors. But it turns out, they were quite right it was the boyfriend.
Interesting twist it is...
-
that was retarded
-
i was right for all the wrong reasons
-
But you are still right though. Your reasons were quite good actually, even though when I first read it, I ruled out your reasoning because i thought the girl may tell the cops about her college too and her past, and even Donny might stalked on her. But it turns out, you were right it was Bunny.
About MPTheory and you point out about the boyfriend coming home at night when he should be at work since he works at graveyard shift. I thought well, it said 6 P.M., maybe he started work at 10 P.M. where the shift change at 10:30 P.M. or something. He probably just came to visit her for a few hours then left to work.
But again, the writers purposedly make everyone a suspect too. But to find out the real answers to find out who were the real killer is really over my head. And I didn\'t even thought about adding up the numbers when i read "Add It All Up"...heh.
-
The way you get to find who\'s the killer isnt realistic at all.
-

I agree. Your method is realistic and makes sense. The authors were sneaky indeed and even they admits they make it too hard. I guess that\'s why its called a murderous riddle instead of a mudrerous mystery...
-
That was retarded. My answer >*
-
thats a really stupid haha. And the clues are even worse than the answer.
It would have been cooler if there was a logical way of figuring out who the killer was.
-
I\'m sorry I even read the whole thing in the first place.
I never bothered to join the discussion, but I\'ll say that the answer is retarded.
Even when they explain their "logic" it doesn\'t make any logical sense.
There are four numbers and seven.. colors.. mentioned! So it\'s the person who lives in Apartment 74!
Retarded.
-Dan
-
Try taking that argument to court.
-
HA! yeah right. That would be the logic of a public defender maybe.
