Go there if your PS2 had some disc read errors. I\'ll edit for more details.

Lock this if it\'s been posted already.

Lawsuits were filed regarding the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system models 30001, 30001R, 35001, 39001, 39010, 50001, and 50010 (“PS2”). The plaintiffs in those cases claim that certain inappropriate “Disc Read Error” messages are displayed. They also claim that some PS2s fail to play and that some of them cause damage to CDs or DVDs during playback. The companies that were sued, including Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (“SCEA”), say they did not do anything wrong and there is nothing wrong with the PS2

There are three subclasses within this Class. You are eligible for different benefits from the settlement depending on which of the subclasses you are in:

A.   Recent Purchasers Subclass. You are part of the Recent Purchasers Subclass if you bought a PS2 Model 50001 or 50010 new at retail or received a new PS2 Model 50001 or 50010 which was purchased at retail as a gift on or after September 18, 2004, and your PS2 experienced the alleged problems described above, or develops these alleged problems within 13 months after the date it was purchased. If your PS2 has never exhibited any of the alleged problems described above, you should retain a link to this website anyway for use in the event that the PS2 displays these problems later. You will be eligible to receive repair or replacement benefits up to 13 months after the date your PS2 Model 50001 or 50010 was purchased new at retail.

B.   Repair Fee Subclass. You are part of the Repair Fee Subclass if, within 13 months after the date your PS2 was purchased new at retail, you paid a SCEA authorized service provider to repair the PS2 for problems with allegedly inappropriate “Disc Read Error” messages, for alleged failure to play, or for allegedly damaging CDs or DVDs during play.

C.   Loss of Use Subclass. You are part of the Loss of Use Subclass if, within 13 months after the date your PS2 was purchased: (a) your PS2 had problems with allegedly inappropriate “Disc Read Error” messages, alleged failure to play, or alleged damage to CDs or DVDs during playback; (b) you contacted SCEA or Plaintiffs’ Attorneys for repair information; and (c) you did not have the PS2 repaired because of the cost.

I opened and fixed my 30001 (1st generation) PS2 and it works fine now. Maybe they\'ll send me some money :) (if it was a class action suit)

My launch ps2 had disc read errors so I simply opened it up and Q-tipped the lens.  Still going strong to this day.

Launch Xbox\'s harddrive failed about 3-4 months ago so I had to buy a used one. :\\  With trade in it came to about $115.

PS2 - Broke twice. I took good ass care of it too. I had the vents clear and gave it its own shelf on the entertainment center. The first time it stopped reading blue bottom disks. I got it repaired and after a couple months it pretty much stopped playing everything. I bought a slim PS2 and that has been going strong since release.

Xbox - Going strong since I bought it.

<- Had three Psones break.

< - Launch PS2, had problems with it since day one.

Don\'t start on me about trying to take better care of my consoles. I have owned 20 plus consoles and Sony\'s are the only ones I have had problems with.
