Dead or Alive 4 has been pushed back to December, and since it\'s going to be a \'under-inventoried\' launch for the box, they are giving customers who ordered a bundle a choice, and only THIS choice:
a) Cancel your order, good luck on getting an XBOX (both core and full).
b) Accept COD2 in DOA4\'s place.
Niiiiice. A foolish thing to do, to be pissing off your most hardcore fans (ie, the ones that pre-ordered months ago) by switching out games on them, but whatever. They probably should just offer the XBOX with HDD and everything for a discount, say 40-50 bucks less than the bundle price, since then people won\'t feel slighted, or alternatively, send them DOA4 in December, and give them a 20%-30% off any game coupon so that they can go out and get a game of their choice right now.

the entire xbox 360 launch is craptastic at best
reeks of mismanagement and rushed development. omgz have to beat teh sony to teh market at all costz!!1
-
sega wouldn\'t be where they are today without beating the ps2 to market. MS knows what it\'s doing.

You mean out of the hardware market?
-
yeah, I was just saying how well that worked out for sega, beating sony to market......
-
You are funny. The way you worded it gave me a chuckle.
-
What is launch numbers? I\'ve heard there won\'t be a shortage and I have read there will.
-
beating sony to the market isnt what did sega in.
not by a long shot
i read some time ago that there was roughly 300k xbox 360\'s for the US launch (they launching worldwide).
what a way to create artificial demand to hide lack of interest.

what a shame
personally, i\'m waiting for hd-dvd version to get one and laugh at those without one
-
Same thing Sony done with the PS2 and I think it\'s bullshit on any front.
To Sony\'s credit, they done it to generate even more hype. It was already fever pitch and the whole "shortage" just made more news headlines and made people want one even more when they could get their hands on it.
MS is doin\' a shortage for either one of two reasons. Terrible planned launch and can\'t generate enough units in time or to try and pull the "its so cool, there is a shortage" hype stunt ala Sony.
-
yeah, but it worked for sony
they delivered too (yes, i know about your dissapointment with the PS2 launch titles)

then the burden of proof is on you to supply that article you read saying that the U.S. will only get 300k. Last I read we\'ll get close to a million at launch and then more every week.
-
wrong.
the burden is on you to say it\'s getting more.

No, you should have supplied a link to support your claim.

Not that I should have to but...
The final shipment of the US Consoles on the 22nd is 1,098,200. (20% of those being core systems)
Microsoft plans on selling 4 million 360’s within the next 5 months worldwide.
There are currently 2,190,876 accesories being shipped on the 22nd to the US
There are currently 29 Games that will be available BEFORE the end of the 2005
There are current plans for sequels to NEW franchises that arent even out on the 360 yet.
Microsoft plan on expanding there Xbox Live user base to 14 million users by the end of the 360 lifespan.

Right out of a booklet handed to the shareholders.
I\'ll be surprised if you come up with anything.

you can\'t possible fall for that

the retail employee estimates that Microsoft will only ship about 400,000 units at launch (in the US)

did you read the part where it said "the retail employee estimates?"
Some guy who works behind an EB counter is going to know the entire US 360 shipment for the 22nd? You can\'t seriously consider that.
-
Hold up, did someone say my Xbox won\'t be high-def? Or are we just talking a particular DVD format...
-Dan
-
come on now, haven\'t been reading about the countless people that are having thier pre-orders ganked due to shortage? retail stores are getting like 20 units each.
EB employee > microsoft shareholder booklet that ended up in the trash that night.
care to comment on the 10 million in the first year sales?
(not holding my breath)
a revised xbox 360 will be coming out down the road with a HD-DVD drive, Eik.
maybe that\'s how they expect to sell 10 million, but making everyone have to re-buy one
-
The circuit city by me said they were only getting 22 units in. Sad
-
come on, gink
sugarcoat it for me!
-
I don\'t have to sugarcoat anything. There are conflicting reports going around everywhere and FACT is that the only numbers coming from Microsoft is what I provided you with. I won\'t deny the shortage because it\'s just that, a shortage. It\'s not the best situation to be in but it\'s certainly not an arguement to say the 360 is doomed or anything of that nature. Sony pulled through just fine with the PS2. If the PS2 launch is any indication of what a shortage can do then we\'ll see the Xbox 360 as a hot item and people snatching them up as they come in. Will that happen? I can\'t say for sure, but it\'s certainly a possibility.
I really can\'t believe you would take some EB drone\'s guesstimate as supporting evidence. Even worse is that you\'re hanging on to it. You\'re as much an ass as ever, and you make this place a dump. I don\'t know why I came back today but you\'ve provided me enough reason to just call it quits again. You\'re an ass, and a really stupid one to boot.
-
Damn, let\'s not get too personal. Isn\'t everyone entitled to their own opinion? weather that opinion is right or wrong.
And imho this place is not a dump, it\'s pretty fun most times.
What would we do without mm?
-
lol, gink threatens to quit again when backed into the corner?
:ohnoes:
-
Bah you people are killing each other for minor things.
-
My local Gamestop and EB Games are calling people and telling them they\'ll have to wait a week or 2 before they\'ll be able to fill there orders due to lack of units being shipped.
I pre-ordered on 5/18/2005 and I\'m the last person on one of the lists.
MS had major troubles getting out the final development kits, I think it is obvious there is going to be a major shortage. So stock up on XBOX 360\'s the meatheads on ebay will help ya offset the cost of your own, and then some
-
When I bought Kameo the guy looked at my most recent presell receipt and said "You know you might not get your system for another couple months, right?"
And I said, "What?! I can get a refund on launch day then, right?" (I found out no one shops at Babbages on launch day, I left a line outside Toys R Us to walk into Babbages and grab a GameCube on day one.)
Then he realized he was looking at the wrong receipt and said I\'d get one on the first day.
So I called him a fag and spit on the guy in line behind me.
True story.
-Dan
-
now that\'s a true american!

-
Yeah I agree with clips. COME BACK GINKS THERE WAS SO MUCH THAT WAS LEFT UNSAID.
-
I cancelled my pre-order. Not because lack their of on 360 part.
I just can wait on any console now ps3 or xbox360.
I\'ll have one by christmas. I just don\'t play consoles like I use too am not in a rush to spend $400 just to get nba 06 and see shaqs sweat glands.
I was hyped for madden but it sucks on xbox/ps2 so I see no other games besides kameo I like now.
-
and what could be worst, being an early adopter, might means you have to buy the xbox360 again when they included this "HD-DVD" drive...again, if microsoft do make a rather risky move...
-
I imagine that HD-DVD is not really going to give blue-ray much of a fight, and if blue-ray gives in on some small issues, they might be able to convince MS to be a user.
In any event, some future version of the box will have a larger capacity reader, because even now, we\'re pushing the limits of storage one a single DVD for many games. With higher resolution textures, more complex and numerous objects, and more complex engines, it\'s just a matter of time before games hit the 10-15 GB mark, if not much more.
It will be interesting to see if companies will release future \'large\' games on 2 DVDs, 1 new format DVD (giving the shaft to early adopters), or both....
**EDIT**
Tycho over at Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/) is saying that his local electronics store is not going to fill preorders by date taken, but by peripherals and games simultaneously ordered. Now, this isn\'t MS\'s fault, EXCEPT that if it\'s true, MS should be shoving their size 50 boot into the A!$ off any distributor doing this. Talk about the worlds worst PR move ever.
-
Well, I don\'t know if they will eat up a lot of data, but I doubt it eat it as much as CG movies in video format, such as in high def in MPEG-2, MPEG-4, or VC-1...
Remember, HD-DVD now supports up to 3 layers, each with 15 GBytes in prototype. and last I checked, HD-DVD can support up to a total of 4 layers. Giving you a total of 60 GBytes.
But of course, Blu Ray still beat HD-DVD in the storage area.
Blu Ray supports up to 8 layers, each with 25 Gbytes, giving you a total of 200 Gbytes...I remember reading TDK created a 4 layers 100 Gbytes prototype blu ray disc about a couple of months ago, and of course they are all compatible with current 2 layers Blu Ray player/reader...
-
Problem is gen1 360s are shipping with just a regular DVD drive - ie, 9 gigs max. Can you imagine how the new Square games will take advantage of having Blue-ray Storage? Nevermind impressive FMV for 10-15 sec, they\'ll be able to throw in HDTV cutscenes that last minutes at a time (if they want).
If MS was serious about challenging the movie market with HD-DVD they really should have included it with the 360, so people wouldn\'t even have to buy a new DVD player to take advantage of the movies when they came out in their new format.
-
I think the number #1 factor why Microsoft didn\'t bother including an HD-DVD drive is cost. Being the richest company in the world, I would have thought Microsoft is willing to loss more money per unitl sold by adding an HD-DVD drive. But I guess Microsoft didn\'t want to do that.
The Number 2 reason may have to do with that they are not certain which format will win out in the end, so instead of supporting either the Blu Ray or HD-DVD. They just go with the current DVD rom format.
Again, I don\'t think the Blu Ray and HD-DVD video spec is finalize yet. So launching XBOX earlier with either of the two format, I don\'t think you can play video in those two formats yet, unless of course, their is a firmware update in the future...
-
ms isn\'t the richest company in the world btw. even in the little competition between sony and ms, sony has more assets.
-
heh, two of my friends that were originally bumped off the \'first shipment\' pre-order list got calls last night saying they can get back in if they wanted.
apparantly, there\'s a rash of pre-order cancellations within the last week.
perhaps the poor ratings of launch titles are killing the hype.
-

Well, I thought Bill Gates is the richest guy himself, so I assumed his company must be the richest company and can lose more money per console sold than any other company...
-
You\'re not totally off base Paul. While Sony is definitely a larger company with more assets, MS makes 8 times as much profit, according to those old charts mm posted anyway.
Looks like Sony makes the bulk of its money from electronics, physical products which you have to make over & over again with expensive raw materials. MS is in the business of software, something that can be copied over & over inexpensively. Em Dollar-Sign has more cash money on-hand to throw away and invest.
And for the record, I thought the Sultan of Brunei was the richest guy in the world.
-
Heh, number 6 on the list is a single male - Ingvar Kamprad - at 23 Billion, all from Ikea. Saddle up ladies... and racer (sorry guy).
M$ CAN afford to take a hit on consoles, and I\'m sure they\'re going to start as soon as the PS3 is released. Why do it now, when they can do it later in order to help take Sony\'s sales away, boost their own sales, and they\'ll probably lower the price again with the HD-DVD version release, to try and get some market share for their format.
-
MM all you do is ride on sony nut sack. These console wars are getting real stupid. Especially how far we have come and you still dick ride.

So with other words they are going to skrew the early XBOX360 owners forcing them to buy the HD-DVD version if they want that feature??

makes me wonder if some of the future XBOX360 games were in HD-DVD format, how are you going to play it current XBOX360 console?

all 360 games will be in DVD format. If 360 "ever" includes an hd-dvd it\'s purpose will be only for watching movies.
Someone earlier asked why M$ didn\'t add a HD-DVD drive, simple at the time of 360\'s Production HD-DVD was not finalized yet, nor was the tools and production ready. In other words M$ can\'t add HD-dvd when it\'s not ready.
-
Man the thing is released in a few days and there isnt much fuss about it or any mindblowing news.
It really doesnt feel like the old exciting days when gaming shifted to the next gen.
And the same goes with the PS3.Not much difference.Next gen gaming mostly feels like an upgraded PC in a boxJust minor improvements on graphics. No difference at gameplay at all

What have you been smoking Uni ?
It will be the end of the world if ever a console launch will appear which actually stomps current high end pc gaming.
I can argument becuz i have been in Xbox360 game development the past 3 months ; developers didn\'t have time on their side for 1st gen Xbox360 games.
The real next gen power will show with games like :
- Gears of War
- Alan Wake
- Xbox360 Oblivion
- Sega\'s new Afterburner
- NBA 2K06
- etc !
(watch latest trailers of respective games to get a clue...ow wait... you still on dial up modem ? ....ugh)
Like I have been saying all along ; Xbox360 launches very very early. Maybe a bit too early for it\'s own good.
But ! We do know that upcoming games will be optimized for true next gen hardware which\'s performance and features even 3000 Euro pc hardware cannot touch.
For example (quote) ; "I believe it\'s because to get AA for "free" by rendering the scene in the console\'s DRAM, the engine has to support tiled rendering. Apperently none of the launch games were made to take advantage of this feature, and so they simply left AA off (or in the case of PGR3, lowered the resolution slightly so that they could use AA and get the image to fit into the DRAM). I\'m guessing all of the post-launch games will have tiling, since the DRAM wasn\'t availible to developers until the final version of the kit was availible, and 2 months isn\'t much time to rebuild an engine to support tiling (which apperently is much easier to build into an engine if you plan for it from the begining instead of adding it on later)."
So... there you have it. The 2nd batch of Xbox360 will impress alot more.
If Sony\'s smart, they won\'t rush the PS3. After Wanda & the Colossus and MGS3 Substinence PAL releases, then it\'s time to start writing off that PStwo.
But really, I know the true next gen graphics WILL impress.
-

i think that will be the case from here on out...graphics aren\'t really an issue here in regards to both ps3 and the 360....there was a time when we wanted "arcade perfect" translations...well "current" consoles have gone way above and beyond that....i agree with knotter in the sense that we\'re like in the middle of the road as far as true cgi realtime quality graphics.(next gen will show that quality)..thing is tho,...for those of us that grew up with the atari 2600 and earlier versions, we can really appreciate what we\'re seein now...
as for those spoiled brats and young heads that\'s growin up in the late 90\'s and beyond, they will look at these consoles and just say "yawn".... next!...:p

American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy estimates 300,000 to 400,000 Xbox 360s have been sold in the U.S in the last week.
hey gink, where did 700-800k xbox 360\'s go? they sitting in a warehouse somewhere?

DOA4 delayed again! (http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000707069996/)
Well, now it looks like DOA4 won\'t be available for the December 10 Asian 360 launch. It should ship December 17, after this latest delay. Hopefully no more delays or they\'re going to miss Chrismas shoppers too!
-
*BUMP* (I bump only because this is new, and hillarious double-news)
1. Sony confirms (http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000017071749/) spring 2006 launch for PS3.
2. DOA 4 delayed (http://xbox.gamespy.com/xbox-360/dead-or-alive-4/) AGAIN! (Dec 10 to Dec 14 in NA) HAHAHAHAHAHA.
-
4 days is not that long of a wait. It really won\'t effect sales .
Speaking of sales, I\'ve noticed a shortage of Nintendo DS\'s where I live. Every place is selling out due to the holiday season.
-
It\'s more the fact that it was supposed to be a launch title, then it was delayed to \'launch title for Asia\' (December 10), and now it won\'t be a launch title anywhere. Lots of NA gamers had DOA4 ordered with their 360s, and have either been waiting all this time or got the shaft in a game substitute. Personally I find that hillarious, because if it\'s supposed to be on shelves by say, the 10th, there are only foolish reasons for it to get delayed 4 days.
-
Man, I hate bumping with a double, but this is hillarious now. Remember, or originally supposed to be a Launch release in both NA and Japan (ie, November 02 NA - December 10, Japan)
HAHAHAHAH. (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox360/)
Make that December 17 for Japan, and December 21 in North America. Delay it one more time and they\'re going to miss Christmas all together here in NA.
PS - in that link, scroll down, check out the \'European\' Release dates. I also found that pretty  (and I feel bad for Europe, of course)
-
And this, the last and ultimate bump:
So the new date is December 29, 2005 (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6140866.html). No DOA4 for christmas. Not even close to the original planned date of November 22 (launch), 2005. Ouch. This might have helped sales in a lagging Japan, but now they have nothing that will apeal to the market there for the holidays.
-
they might as well can the game for a couple more months of development if they are having this many issues with releasing it.
-
prepare for even more dissapointment
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=62414
US gamers who finally got their hands on delayed Xbox 360 title Dead or Alive 4 last month are still not happy - since it appears their saved games are mysteriously disappearing.
Oh dear. Tecmo admitted that there\'s a problem with the game, telling Gamespot: "We\'re aware of the issue... We\'re working to identify and resolve the potential problem with the technical folks at Microsoft." A patch is on the way shortly, apparently.
in other words, if you don\'t have a HD, you\'re fucked.
go go split userbase!
