Title: Case lighting question
Post by: (e) on November 20, 2005, 11:40:49 PM
I have a new case for my computer- simple lighting/tempature deal (link) (http://cgi.ebay.com/Black-ATX-Computer-Case-712HA-W-450w-TemperatureDisplay_W0QQitemZ6823007483QQcategoryZ51062QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

The lights are really annoying sometimes.

Any programs in which I can turn the lights on/off? How would I go around doing that (I think the lights are with the fan)?

Any information would be helpful.

People usually buy switches for their drives bays (either the 5.25" bay or 3.5") to turn em on & off.  I have one that controls fans as well as regular on/off switches as well:

Only concern is the LEDs get pretty bright, and I see the case doesn\'t have a front door.  Maybe Soully can chime in, he\'s big into case modding.

PS- do you know where the neon lights get their power from, meaning is it a 4-pin or small 3-pin connector?

Looks like a 4-pin connector.

But you havent heard of any programs which can do this?

You need to learn more about the way software and hardware can interact.

There\'s no way that software can \'turn off\' an electrical connector which isn\'t in any way tied into the computer besides the powersupply.

You gotta throw a hardware switch into there, or if you really want to do this with software, a hardware switch that is commanded by software (which would have like a card involved or something, to interact with your OS).

Cut the wire.

Just don\'t cut the wrong one or you could blow up your house.

well, if he just wants it off, and the lights have their own small 4 pin, then he can just unplug the lights.   It sounds like he wants to be able to switch them tho.

Can I use the switch that turns the blue/bubble lights on for the neon lights?

At the bottom of the front panel, a small button used to turn those on/off. Can I wire this button to do that?

If you don\'t care, just turn off the lights permanently.  Don\'t waste your time trying to sharpen up the image of a computer that means nothing to you - cause it won\'t mean much more if/when you fix it the way you want.

U can get a simple pci switch plate.

It\'s Just a pass though for the invertor that allows u to cut power to it with a small switch on a pci cover plate. Or u could just make one yourself.

That would be freaking awesome if I could make a toasted bagel while browsing the web in the morning.
