Simple enough message, I would have thought it was common sense, but don\'t make the mistake of moving/touching an Xbox360 that is on.

Although it\'s a stupid idea to move any media console while it\'s playing, I can\'t really thing of anything that *should* cause that effect in a DVD drive.....
-
I guess if you want a cool design around the outside of your game...
...or not.
But yeah, that\'s pretty fucked.

Honestly, I did that sometimes to my PS2 where I flip the console around just like that shown in the video whenever my psone videogames froze. I don\'t know if doing that could scratch that disc though, but whenever I ejected the disc, the disc seems to turn out fine.
I was quite surprsie to see that happen to that extend on XBOX360 though.
-
Wait a minute....is the 360 using vynil record player technology and did away with lasers? Coz...as far as I know....only the spindle is the only physical thing to touch the disk.....and the laser. :p
I can\'t wait to read mm\'s comments! :p
EDIT - I also reposition my PS2 whilst a CD is spinning within. Nothing bad happens. These guys actually were VERY gentle with the 360.

WTF? Dude you quote fast. I changed that the instant I saw my post after I hit submit.
-
Seriously this is pretty bad. I know someone who has a PS2 in the back seat of their car, and it works just fine, driving (on most roads, obviously not gravel or anything). You wouldn\'t want to do that with the 360, that\'s for sure.
-
So I guess now we know why they call it Xbox 360.
And we thought that circle logo was cute...
-
The manual says......and I quote, "remove discs before moving the console or tilting it between the horizontal and vertical positions"
MS just saved its own ass with one sentence.
-
The playstation 2 manual says something to that effect as well - but there\'s still no reason to have anything that does that in a DVD reader.

hmmm.....I see....scratches....360 degree circular scratches

And despite what the manual warns about, this is a bad hardware design. It shouldn\'t be this bad.

That was funny.

I\'d say it\'s a warning icon.
:p
I love how the manual can prevent law suits.
It\'s like my car\'s manual would say in page 99 "Do Not Turn on Headlights while wipers are on or a large dildo will impale your ass."
I keep trying but it never happens. :(
-
Heh, they used Quake 4 for the demonstration.
IT\'S NOT THAT BAD FFS
-
My PS2 would do the same thing to some of my games.
-
Those were some eerie noises though. God damn.

itself.
-
move or knock the ps2 while its running. Same thing happens. Get over it.
-
I\'ve moved my ps2 from horizontal to vertical while playing and it never did THAT.
-
^^^
Yeah, that\'s never happened to me (and still doesn\'t) either.

Why, does your friend like to occasionally flip his car on its side?
-
It\'s possible that this is an extreme case and that most Xbox 360\'s won\'t do this.
If not, that\'s incredibly bad internal design.

Designers should have considered the fact that consoles have been bumped and moved while in play since the days of Atari.
-
Maybe I misheard, but it sounded like there was movement happening inside the console when it was turned.
As if the outer shell wasn\'t even attached to the innards.
That almost leads me to believe that there must have been some sort of tampering with the console in order to discredit Microsoft.
I just refuse to believe that they could design it so poorly, despite the manual\'s warnings!

I\'ve moved it all the time while it was playing. Never had it do that.

moving the console will make the disk hit the laser right about here:

Here is a viedo where you can hear the scratching (http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/video/Xbox-360-Scratch-Disks3.wmv)
People have already found how to fix it with a small piece of padding on the top of the drive (http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/news/Xbox-360-Game-Disc-Scratched.htm)

-
My ps2 did that to my games before, and it wasn\'t even on.
-
That\'s madness. I\'m turned off by the 360 more and more. I shouldn\'t have to tweak my console to get it to work well. Not if I paid just under half a grand.

To be honest, you really shouldn\'t be twisting the console and stuff like that when its on anyway. When I move my PS2 when its on, its ether back or forth and I\'ve picked it up a couple times due to a freeze or something (don\'t ask). But none of my disks ever scratched. I dont\' see why you need to put the foam piece in unless you like twisting your console around.

More the reason I am still waiting for the PS3
