Sure. And here I am still getting swept up by the age of the UMD.
More hi-def the better, though.
Will a blu-ray disc play on an older DVD player?
-Dan

No
-
Kind of like a DVD can play in a CD player.
Or a tape can play on a record player.
Or your penis in a vagina.
It just doesn\'t work.
-
I hoped it\'d play and just be a lower res.
That\'s too bad.
I\'ll buy a movie and only be able to watch it at home on my PS3... At least for a while, I guess.

They need to get a better selection of movies to put on Blu-Ray.

Nope.
I won\'t rebuy them.
At this point, I could care less about more extras and a better transfer. Just give me the film, barebones and I\'m set. Therefor, Blu-Ray or HD offer nothing to me.

They are also gonna be more expensive when they are released than a regular DVD.

Well, they offer higher resolution, which is great if you have a HD display. If not, then I guess the point is moot.
Either way I\'d wub some HD action. But regular DVD\'s can look quite good nowadays, so I guess I\'ll manage with or without HD anyway.
-
I wonder if its worth it.We tend to sit far from our screens so I dont think the crispiness of HD quality will be much noticable.Unless someone is comparing a big size SDTV with a big size HDTV its a waste of money.
If we are going to notice difference it will mostly be on games I think
-
I\'d wish PS3 can be hooked up to any pc monitor to take advantage of the vga or dvi (yes dvi !) resolution.
-
same, it\'ll be good if they designed them with dvi / vga in mind.. and gave u 2 sets of cables, one with rca the other with vga, or just a adapter for vga to rca. Being most people have both

DVD\'S are still expensive so how much for a blueray dvd?
In anycase there is noway you will see me rebuying my collection on blueray.
Not until blueray players are the price of current dvd and blueray dvd prices can compete with current dvd prices.
-
dvd players aren\'t expensive....nowaday you can get progressive scan dvd players costing around $50...players costing that much probably don\'t do so well in the deinterlacing part...
I expect first generation blu ray players to cost $1,000. Then gets cheaper as the year go by.

Give me a reason for an average consumer to buy a blueray dvd when they still use analog tvs?
-
I\'m personally not gonna rebuy my collection of DVDs. I still have the regular CRT tv and are too old for HD so if I did rebuy some movies, I wouldn\'t notice much of a difference. However, I will buy a blu-ray DVD when I get the ps3 to see what it is like. I\'m sure the movies are gonna be 30 dollars at first too.

I have an HD TV - but still won\'t invest.

I wouldn\'t buy Blu Ray now as they are still expensive.
I remember reading that DVD players costing $1,000 and over when they first come out back in 1996 and 1997.
Some of them only have S-Video output as the best video connection. And the video processing quality was average in my opinion. Then as time go by, prices drop, component video output connection were included, and then progressive scan. And the video processing quality have also improve too...then came dvd players with faroujda DCDi that helps greatly on deinterlacing interlaced video sources on that you don\'t see jaggies on scan lines...
DVD resolution are 720 x 480. But early generation DVD players couldn\'t resolve the entire 720 verticle lines, because the high frequency was roll off so much.
Seeing the history, only rich and hardcore video enthusiasts will buy first generation DVD players...as later generations are more improve, and more features were included, and are cheaper too.
So, what I am trying to say wait till the prices of those Blu Ray players drop, and new movies will be release in this new format of course, like the upcoming X-Men 3 which will be release in May/June of this year in theater. It took DVD 6 - 7 years to equal the sale of VHS VCR players, and another year to surpass and outsell VHS videotapes...
So, if Blu Ray does become a success, get one when they are reasonably cheap say around $200 - $300 with great video processing and support more features on later models...because sooner or later in the future, you will end up with an HDTV.:D

How about I just get a ps3. There is noway I see spending $500-$1000 just for a blueray player to play dvds when their is nothing wrong with the current dvd format.
Now if it could play current dvds then yes buy all means it seems as if the pot is a little sweater. But until then I will wait although I do hate the storage compacity of current dvd.
So I guess time will tell once ps3 launches will see just how much blueray takes off. I know one thing for sure new technology never hurts.

Uh....the blu-ray players do play DVDs. However, I do agree with your logic. I wouldn\'t shell out 1000 bucks either for a blu-ray player. That\'s what the PS3 is for :p Well mostly for games but you see my point :)
