Title: Another question...
Post by: (e) on January 08, 2006, 07:14:59 PM
Im still trying to fix my moms computer - but something is wrong with the video card. I can only get it to startup in safemode.

It is a Geforce 2 MX/MX400, and for some reason it wont start up.

I go into Device Manager/Properties and it lists the following:

This device cannot startup (Code 10)

How do I make it startup? also, for some reason a NVIDIA Riva 128 is listed as the graphics card running (on safemode).

Thank you for the help.

No, she needs to pay bills online and read email from grandchildren. F.E.A.R. is no where in sight.

Actually, Im installing on XP as we speak. She was running 2000, and if I am going through all this trouble, Im putting on XP.

Could someone tell me how to remove an operating system when multiple OS\'s are installed?

Thank you.

Well I installed XP on the system.

But when I startup it gives me the option of 2000 or XP. So all the old shit is still on there?

How do I get rid of 2000, and all that other stuff?

First, remember to back up all the important files like burn it to a CD or DVD...

Then, when you first boot up the computer, press DEL key to go into Setup.  Then, highlight something that called "BIOS" like BIOS Setup or the sort and press enter.

Then go to First Boot Device and select CD-ROM.

Then go to Second Boot Device and select HDD-0.

Exit and save.

Insert the disc Windows XP into the computer and restart.  When it ask if you want to boot up from disc, press any key to enter so it will boot up Windows XP.  When it boot up windows xp and ask you if you want to Format everything from your HDD, choose that option and choose "install a fresh copy of Windows XP".  I can\'t remember the exact order in there, but that\'s what you should select though so the disc will format everything in your HDD meaning all files will be deleted.

After it finish formatting, it will install a Fresh Copy of Windows XP.  Then there will be times during installation, it will restart computer and remember not to press enter again when it ask you if you want to boot up from disc.  As it will automatically finish where it start off installing windows XP.  During installation, they will ask you some questions like username, etc.  After it finish installation and stuff, you should see Windows being boot up and the background which means you have successfully install it...

And here is a picture of BIOS so you can get a better idea of what i mean when choose CD-ROM as your first bootup device...

just go through the hard drive and delete individual files that predate your latest install.

At least that\'s how I\'d do it.

The method I mentioned above is the one I familiar with as I don\'t know how to delete Windows 2000 but still keeping Windows XP intact yet...
