While I like anime, i can\'t stand to watch em too much becuz it\'s sucha distinct style.

My #1 fav\'s still Otomo\'s Akira.

Jin Roh\'s good, but it\'s animation seemed kind of stiff having seen Mononoke hime just a week before.

..and although it doesn\'t excell in many categories, I still have the Robotech series on the fav list too.

Does anyone know btw how to acquire Robotech the Movie ? I saw it once on vhs tape but I would really want to have it on DVD. Of course, vhs would do as well.

I remember it\'s basically a side story with some dude named Mark who obtains the red Modat 5.

Thats Vampire Hunter D I believe.
Amano worked on the artwork for that one.Its the guy who also made artwork for some of the Final Fantasy games.FF9 is one example. He is one of the greatest artists imo

I was about to berate him about being a soft westener fed on censored, dubbed versions. But yes DBZ turned to shit once they tried to milk it for more than it really had. I mean they were stretching it purdy thin with the Majin Buu arc and all the stupid filler flashbacks, but it just got totally stupid once they had SSJ4. I mean fuck, purple furr and a tail? The designer deserves to die of parkinson\'s disease.

And yes I know SSJ4 is in GT, but still an offspring of Z.

Again... read the manga for DBZ. Infinitely better than the anime, devoid of useless filler. Strictly Toriyama\'s vision.

"The Japanese term for animation is ??????? (anim?shon, pronounced: /?nim????n/), written in katakana. It is a direct transliteration of the English term "animation." The Japanese term is abbreviated as ??? (anime, pronounced: /?nim?/ ). Both the original and abbreviated forms are valid and interchangeable in Japanese, but as could be expected the abbreviated form is more commonly used. The term is a broad one, and does not specify an animation\'s nation of origin or style."

Just thought I\'d further derail this thread.

Edit: damn copy and paste won\'t do japanese text...you still get the point.

Anime is simply violent and/or sexual jap animation. Which DBZ falls under....

Meh.. it\'s just like any other form of entertainment. Some people like it, some people don\'t. It\'s mass media, but not "all media". I think people put it in a different category as if its some super mystical special thing because most of the material come from an asian country. Stop being racist!

Well that depends. Some people like them because lots of them are so pop culture, others like them as a form of art.

Personally I love anime but not all of them. And those that I adore are the ones that have deep plot, creativity and great art direction.

I am fascinated by some people\'s great imagination.

its not ur saturday morning cartoons after all

look at naruto - the animation is great and story is great - look at what we got over here in states playing atm... and i can see why ppl choose the other

I always liked anime and manga for the styling of the \'mecha\'. They\'re generally more stylish than sci - fi story robots from the Western world.

It\'s very clear that the old japanese samurai costumes have influenced mecha designs.

The best anime also have a great way of portraying light - shadow.

yea i can say i like anime for it\'s mature themes and plots as well. Look at what they did to transformers the movie..:p...even tho i thought the old afternoon transformers cartoons were decent,..the artwork in the movie was a bit better and they were killin autobots left and right..:p after the movie tho,..the series kinda went downhill.

prior to pickin\' up aeon flux, i copped animatrix and wicked city. both were pretty decent, and some of the artwork in animatrix was superb. there\'s still some anime that i would like to pick up tho,... i just never really think about it when i\'m out in the store...

that\'s another thing that pisses me off hentai is directly translated as \'pervert\'. so it doesn\'t make any sense to say \'we made our own personal pervert\', unless you were making a baby that would grow up to be one.

Ninja Scroll TV series was a disgrace.

Cowboy Bebop owns them all. I have the Perfect Sessions boxset and love it. Same with the \'Knockin\' on Heaven\'s door\' film.

Can Final Fantasy7:Advent Children be considered an Anime btw?Its\' got all the elements of an Anime. Its just made with CGI graphics and looks.

I loved it btw.But mostly as an extention of the game.

I loved the music especially Sephiroth\'s theme, the battles, art direction, character style etc.

Good work.Although I was expecting a deeper plot.

Saw Amon Saga a week ago.Its pretty old.Animation sucked, story wasnt all that special.

Atleast it gets some value from Yoshitaka Amano\'s work. But then again most of his work when transisted from paintings to anime they lose from their original glory and feel.

did someone mention Hellsing yet? the english text they put on various things in an attempt to be \'kewl\' fails miserably. at one stage, I think Alucard had \'Jesus is in Heaven\' on his gun. that\'s just so absolutley stupid, not kewl. I cringe every time I see stuff like that. but the rest of it is great.
