Wow. I saw this film yesterday and alhough I was a little disapointed, I can admit I got squeamish at times. The first half of the film plays like a Softcore Porn Flick while the second half is simply one torture scene followed by another. I never get to see stuff like this, I don\'t know why I want to, but I will say this... Eli Roth is one messed up individual.
-
i thought it was a dumb premise when i saw the preview before saw 2. Didnt seem like any thought behind it besides making as nasty of a film as possible.
-
uh?
It\'s a mainstream American film. If you want to see something that is truly messed up, look for the Japanese Experiments series..etc.
I still plan on watchin\' it, as I loved Cabin Fever.
-
is the violence in this cheesy?

Erm isn\'t Eli Roth from the UK?
Aussies make the best horror films;
Wolf Creek
SAW (SAW 2 was alittle meh)
Undead
-
Undead?
Saw?
I\'ve heard it all now.
Both...Craptacular films.

For your own safety, if you guys ever see a movie with the name Takashi Miike anywhere in the credits/review/etc. run for your life.
If you aren\'t looking out for director names then at the very LEAST avoid movies named Audition or Visitor Q.
-
audition > *

Wait Wolf Creek was good? That movie was a piece of crap, it was like Crocodile Dundee went on rampage. The setup of the movie took an hour, and then it was only 30 minutes of actual execution of the film. Wolf creek was VERY disapointing.
Oh and I\'m sorry, but subtitle movies suck. If I\'m going to watch a movie with subtitles, I might as well go ahead and read a book for half the price of a movie.
I want a movie that has the quality of a Japanese film (gore, suspense, etc.) but filmed in English so it can be understood without subtitles.
-
what? can\'t you speak Jap?

No, the movie doesn\'t suck. YOU suck for not understanding the language.
Subs > dubs

I\'m sorry I don\'t speak fluent Japenese. I didn\'t realize it would be useful for anything outside watching Japenese films.
-
I liked Wolf Creek for the most part. A little slow to get going and I did wonder why it was even made but I\'d rather see that than the usual Hollywood crap fest.
Looking forward to Hostel, though.
-
don\'t be ignorant, hurricane
understanding the language has nothing to do with feeling the emotion and character in the original voice tracks.
-
I agree with MM
did I really just say that....?
guess I did
-
God was this movie terrible.
I went expecting to see some of the goriest scenes in recent history, but not only was it a bust, it was so fake it was campy.
Quentin should be embrassed.
Just wanted to save you guys a couple bucks.
-
You\'re clueless. Do you go on everything the previews say? Tarintino had very little do with this, other than help get it out there, due to the fact him and Eli Roth are friends... This was Roth\'s baby, he wrote it and directed it.
With that said - there was already a thread about this. I have not seen it yet, but I plan on it, I for one, loved Cabin Fever and will give Eli Roth another chance. It has to be better than most the PG-13 "horror" films out there. When I go, all I want to see is blood and tits, if it has that, then it has delivered.
-
Quentin actually helped along Roth in the development of it, too. He\'s like a mentor to Roth.
-
Not the best person to mentor. His films are usually shoddy durin\' parts. I would say that his single best was Resivor Dogs and anything else was pure hype. I enjoyed parts of Pulp Fiction, same with Jackie Brown and Kill Bill Vol 1 (don\'t care for Vol 2).
Roth has talent, I think Cabin Fever proved that. It had a certain dark humor that has been missing from American horror films the last decade.
-
While listening to Movie Reels on my XM Radio, they had interviewed Roth about Hostel and Quentin\'s involvement. Quentin read Roth\'s script and said "DO IT!".
Quenting produced it. Put his name on it. Also, Quentin did no direct Hero. He helped distribute it.

Exactly. That is another thing I hate, when people think Tarintino had something to do with Hero.
-
I liked hero!

Saw Hostel last night and that it was pretty good, loved the gore and the whole concept of the movie to me was awesome.
-
no one answered my question in the other thread
How many people think the violence is cheesy looking?
haven\'t seen it and i\'m curious
-
I don\'t know about cheesy, pretty sickening, and cool at the same time, I enjoyed it just because the sheer fact that it made my fiance squirm, Tits, ass, gore blood and guts, what else can you ask for in a horror/suspense movie.
-
It was better than most horror movies these days, but that isn\'t saying much.
Furthermore, I wouldn\'t call it horror. I\'d call it a thriller. Or just fucking gross maybe.
The gore does look very cheesey at times, in my opinion. One time in particular comes to mind (if i knew how to do the spoiler thing i would...check it out if you want to see it.)
I don\'t know how you missed it Mike. When I saw it, most of the people in the theater were turning their heads and making \'disgusted\' sounds throughout the movie...but at this part there was just laughter thanks to how poorly it was executed.

Yeah, how if someone got their fingers blown off or their eye cut out?
Fuck that, they would die of blood loss.
If you liked this movie, you bought the hype.
Horror movies have such low standards.
For those of you who haven\'t seen it, don\'t.
-
I just want to thank you, for making a second thread on this movie.
Search function broken?
-
meh, want to see a aussie flick.. go see Wolf Creek http://www.wolfcreekthemovie.com/ was a interesting movie to say the least. I knew nothing about it besides it was R rated......
-
Just saw it.
Loved it.
Tits..
Ass..
Blood.
That\'s all I want in a movie.
Nothing more.

Meh, your opinion, I liked it don\'t really give a rat\'s ass what you think about it as I know that whatever you like/dislike I\'m pretty much going to be opposite so go watch your bullshit Broke Back Mountain. :bj:
-
He is being abit over critical of it. I think he expected some profound film, but it isn\'t. It\'s just a simple tits and blood movie, something that American filmmakers have not made in awhile. I for one apperciate needless nudity and violence.
-
As do I, I think he\'s mad that there aren\'t any hot black chicks in the movie neked.

I just started watching Audition last night. I\'m not too far in, but things are juuuust beginning to get weird and it\'s already very creepy.

:headbang:
keep watching it, the ending is awesome
then go find a copt of "Gozu" by the same director, Takashi Miike
