Kobe Bryant just scored 81 points.
QuDdUs must be jerking off right now
-
I hate the dude but thats unreal. To shoot that many shots in the 60% range, wow.
-
How many assists?

Good Question!
A: Assists = 2. And the Lakers only won by 18 points.

This kind of performance makes me want to vomit. It\'s a TEAM game, not a hot dog exhibition.

wade > kobe

e and coredweller did either of you see the game? I\'m guessing a big fat NO. They were passing the ball around and he was making a lot of the shots. If you asked the team if his performance pissed them off they\'d all say no and that opinion probably matters a little more than yours. If the player is hot get him the ball, especially when he\'s shooting 60% as opposed to a couple forwards shooting 1 for 5 and 1 for 7.
All that matters is the team winning that game. Don\'t even try to bring up other games with how Kobe plays because thats not this game and it has no relevance.
-
I agree with Bozco. I think Kobe is a selfish player, but if he shoots 60%, including 7-13 from 3, there\'s no way you can fault him for taking enough shots to score 81. It\'d be different if he were shooting 40% or something, but at 60%, that\'s just a flat out amazing game.

[T.O. MODE] I LOVES ME SOME ME! [/T.O. MODE]
wow...
that is pretty impressive, but must be demoralizing to his teammates....
-
Kobe had 78 attempted shots. The rest of the team in total attempted 60 shots
-
I don\'t understand the problem with Kobe attempting 78 shots.
Yeah, it\'s a team game... but he was on. He won\'t score 81 every night.
-
Especially when he ACTUALLY attemped 46 shots. He went 28-46 from the field including 7-13 from 3, and 18-20 from the line. Oh, and the rest of the team was 14-42. If Kobe is shooting 61%, and the rest of the team is shooting 33%, what\'s the problem with him scoring 81? Especially when the team as a whole scored 122 points.

No, I don\'t watch a Laker game unless I have to. BTW, do you think any of the noname players on that team are going to say a word against Kobe, even if they hate his ass? LOL! It\'s funny how you try to convince me to ignore the Lakers\' other games this season simply because they won this particular game.
I agree the win is all that matters. Good for them that they won a game. Unfortunately their record is 22-19, which puts them in 7th place in the West. A team that has one selfish superstar backed up by a cast scrubs is not a formula for consistent success in the NBA. This game could have easily ended with Kobe scoring a high number of points, and the Lakers losing, as has happened many times in the past. Of course they\'re going to win occasionally. The goal is to win consistently.
To increase his team\'s success, Bryant should distribute the ball and get several players hot, not constantly try to carry every game on his back.
-
Just in case you were wondering, Wilt scored 100, and I guarentee you he took a majority of the shots and didn\'t have a lot of assist. So by your logic, Wilt is a selfish player too.
Sometimes you have to be selfish if its whats best for the team. You can\'t be thinking in your head, "well, I already scored 40 points, I\'m going to take myself out of the game."
No, to quote Herm Edwards, "you play to win the game." And if Kobe\'s points are whats winning them games, they they should stand by it.
-
Hell yes Wilt Chamberlain was a selfish player.
I\'m not saying Bryant should have made a conscious decision to stop shooting when he was hitting his shots. I\'m saying he should change his whole philosophy and attitude toward the game every time he plays, not just when they\'re winning.
He\'s a ballhog when he\'s hitting shots and his team is winning. He\'s a ballhog when he\'s missing shots and his team is losing. He\'s a ballhog ALL the time, and if he changed that, the Lakers would win consistently. Take a look at the Lakers of the 80\'s and ask yourself how they differ from this team. Magic Johnson was the master of the assist. He knew that if he could get other players on his team hitting their shots, no opponent could stop them. You can double team one player, but you can\'t double team 3 or 4 players.
-
It\'s basketball, he doesn\'t even count.
-
jordan > kobe > lebron
sure Kobe isn\'t a role model or team player like Lebron or Jordan, but not even Jordan scored 81.
-
I agree with Cored. Sure he won the game, but it wont happen consistently. And scoring 81 points doesn\'t make him one of the greats either. All the greats make everyone else around them better. Magic, Bird, Jordan, Abdul-Jabar, Duncan, Stockton etc.
-
Several things.
First of all, in response to Cored, the difference between the Lakers of the 80\'s and the Lakers of today is that Magic had Kareem to pass to. Every game this season in which a player other than Kobe led the team in scoring, they\'ve lost. Kobe is shooting at a 45% clip, much higher than the league average, and the average of the rest of his teammates. He\'s also 2nd on the team and 35th in the league in assists, putting him above most of the league\'s non PG\'s.
I\'m not trying to argue that Kobe is a good guy or a team player, but I think that his current team doesn\'t have the talent to be a great team. They need one more solid player. Who would you rather see taking a shot as a Lakers fan, Kobe or Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, Chris Mihm, etc.? Sure, it\'s his fault the team has no other top flight talent, he chased Shaq out of town, but you can\'t fault his performance last night.
And Square, it\'s unfair to say Kobe is better than LeBron. At LeBron\'s age, Kobe was just getting off the Laker\'s bench. It was his first year even starting. LeBron is years ahead of Kobe in terms of development at this point in their careers, and if the list is going to include people who are no longer playing, that\'s the way you have to look at it. I\'d take LeBron\'s 31 ppg, 7 rpg, and 6 apg at a 49% FG % over Kobe\'s 19.9 ppg, 5 rpg, 4 apg, at 46% FG % for sure. Hell, I might take LeBron over Kobe now, despite Kobe having 7 more years of experience. It\'s at least close.

Ok, I agree Kobe is a prick but you were talking about that one single performance making you want to vomit. He got 55 of those points in the second half when his team was down big. 18 of the pts in the game coming off of foul shots. Him shooting that much and doing that well in a game is amazing. Now arguing if he would have shot close to that many if he was playing bad for the day and taking a lose is something completely different. We\'re on two different pages here.

jordan didnt score 81 points because he made pippen, kerr, and kukoch (sp?) good around him. As great as kobe is, i wouldnt want him as the lone star..if they pick up someone else that can play or make other people around him good then his value would skyrocket in my book.
But i stopped paying attention to basketball so all i can say is...damn.

In the long run I think LeBron will be better than Jordan was, but currently I don\'t think anyone is as good as Kobe in the league. Give LeBron another year and he will surpass Kobe. Kobe won\'t become a legend unless he can find a way to become a team player and make those around him better. He scored 81, very very impressive, but the Lakers only won by like 10 or so. Either Kobe is bringing that team down, or Kobe\'s teammates are a joke that could be beaten by North Dakota State.

basketball actually, lol. 81 points in american football would be nuts.

Curious.
Has anyone else in NBA history topped Kobes 81 points?
-
Wilt Chamberlain scored 100pts, then Kobe\'s 81 is 2nd.

Even if you are so biased in sport that you don\'t like kobe. Everyone had to admit it like every other sports authority. The man did something awesome.

You are a complete fucking idiot. He was saying it was an amazing performance even if he doesn\'t normally like kobe or how he plays.

Don\'t even bother explaining it to him boz, not even worth the effort.

I guess I kind of got a little over my head. I just get all fired up at times when people talk about kobe. Yeah I didn\'t mean to fire off at shocky like that. I take back what I said.

Did I miss something? :p
