even tho i\'m more of a japanese auto maker fan,...this is still a bit disturbing. I mean back in the day the american auto makers were makin\' garbage imo...cept for maybe the stangs,Vetts, and Trans-Am\'s..:p..but lately i think the american auto makers have been makin\' some decent cars.....i gotta be honest tho..at this time the only american car i would buy at this point is that chrysler 300...:fro:...and escalade or navigator..:fro:...i\'m still a supra man and g-35 man at heart..:p

serves them right
perhaps they can go on strike over the plant closing....errrr
-
Maybe they should start thinking of better ideas for cars instead of re-hashing the same ones year after year and charging more for them...
-
To my understanding, the Japanese car manufacturers in the US don\'t allow unions in their plants because they know the unions will mess things up and the company ususally takes care of their employees. Maybe American companies can do the same and take a lesson from their competition.
-
They also stupidly stuck to making SUV\'s even as the price of oil rose. I, for one, will never again buy an American car... I took enough crap from my Taurus to last me a lifetime.
-
American auto makers need to step up to the plate. It\'s 4th & goal but most of their offensive line is going to hell in a handbasket. You get what you pay for when having your cake and eating it too. They need to stop crying wolf and smell the roses. Life is what you make of it & only God can judge me now.
-
I drive an American car (97 Tbird) and it is the best car I\'ve ever drove. I\'ve driven quite a few and this is the best handling car I\'ve ever driven. I think dismissing a car because its American made is quite ignorant.

Ford and GM have more recalls than all of the Japanese car manufacturers combined. Too many faulty wiring, bad engineering and sub-par longevity. That\'s why you see so many rebuilt American engines. A Toyota engine could last 20 years if not for the body rusting away.
The pensions both GM and Ford have to pay are bleeding the profits out of Ford and GM. Unions are also bleeding them dry.

Unions blow monkey nuts.

yes sir.
I hate when people say you are unamerican if you by foreign cars, back off and let me be a capitalist for christ sakes. Union\'s are a crock of shit anyways.
Make better cars and people will buy more of them. I can figure it out, why can\'t Ford/GM.

I stuck with Chevy \'cos my dad worked for Delphi... (used to be Harrison radiator) anyhoo...Delphi\'s prolly closing and taking most of his pension with it (THANKS UAW!)
after this, I will never buy a chevy again...never had a problem with any of the 3 I\'ve owned, I just don\'t really like them anymore.

It\'s like they hire old diluted senior citizens to design their cars:

Why so bland?? Why why!??!? Would it kill them to create something off the cuff and edgey like this:

Are you serious? American engines can last just as long as Japanese. My dad has an F150 with like 120k miles and he just recently replaced the spark plugs on the truck and they were still good. The engine still runs strong and he\'s never had a problem with it besides replacing the oxygen sensor once or twice which wasn\'t a big deal. I\'ve talked to MN-12 (89-97) Thunderbird owners and they say they\'ve gotten 300k miles on the car before they started having problems and one said he beat the shit out of it the entire time he had it, both on the V6 and teh V8 models. So what if there are recalls. They replace possibly faulty parts for free and you just drop the car off for a day or two and problem solved. My family has been buying Ford cars for years and we get a recall maybe once every few years and its something stupid like cruise control or a possible wire that may or may not be important. Its not like the engine is blowing or anything.
Ford, Chevy and Dodge engineer incredible trucks. I don\'t know what you are talking about. Those trucks can take quite a punishment. Most people wear the engine down before the truck actually wears out. The only thing my dad replaced on his truck are sparkplugs and breaks but that\'s it.

Titan, I must agree on the trucks. But as for American cars, in my experience I\'ve had nothing but trouble with them with less than 500 miles on the odometer.
Then I have my sister\'s in-laws who keep buying domestic cars that keep having issues....so I stay away from them. And don\'t forget the recalls Ford and GM have had. Way too many.

And all I\'m saying is my family has been driving American cars all their lives and haven\'t had too many problems minus my moms 90 Sable (motor blew) but Ford has been known in the past for making V6 engines that aren\'t anywhere near as good as their 8s.
Don\'t get me wrong though. I probably one day will be driving a Nissan or Toyota one day. Personally, I don\'t like the new generation of Ford trucks and not too crazy about the other ones either. Too boxy. I do however love the look of the Nissan trucks and hope to buy one some day. They look orgamsic :)
