Title: Getting a tattoo
Post by: Halberto on January 25, 2006, 08:21:15 PM
I need some ideas. Im wanting something symbolic, maybe something written in Gaelic. Some sort of virtue maybe. I don\'t want to look back when Im older and say how stupid I was for getting it. I want it to remind me of my background. Basically, Im trying to get an old foreign word or picture on my right shoulder blade.

I need help guys, Im not decisive :( Im also thinking some people in here know a lot about tattoos or went through the same issue.

Been there, done that.

Best advice?

Get an original design.
Don\'t rush it.
You have your whole life, I have one that I waited years to get and so far don\'t regret it. I\'d like to get another  that symbolizes my daughters. Not sure what.

I completely agree.

If you are going to get something put on your back just above your butt crack (You know you want a tramp stamp) it should be something that means something to you.  Something you are passionate about.  Something worth looking at in 80 years and reflecting on why you got it.

If you get some stupid symbol because Gman said so, you\'ll be looking at it wondering what the fuck you were thinking.

I would say hold off until you find something you "need" to have inked on to your body for the rest of your life.  Too many people regret their tattoos.  I have three now, and don\'t regret any of them, mostly due to the fact I never got one, just to get one.

Do you have a target tatoo on the center of your back?

I can never get a tattoo because I\'d know I\'d regret it eventually. That\'s why I got an earring. I can just take it out :) But I got my earring prom weekend with my close friends so it actually symbolizes something.

There\'s always a risk of getting Hepatitis...another fun thing about tattoos. And it doesn\'t matter if they sterilize the needles, because the disease stays in the ink for a while.

Don\'t do. It\'s graffiti on your skin. You don\'t want to look like LIC, do you? ;)

Nothing wrong with graffiti on your skin, as long as you are smart about it. Wait, wait and wait. When you do decide on a design, don\'t rush out, wait some more. Make sure it\'s original.

Don\'t be like my fiance, she has two that she got during the "heat of the moment" (aka - seemed like a good idea at the moment) and now she regrets them.

P.S - Gman, I really wish you would get this right. You make it sound like I\'m covered. I have one. Just thought I\'d clear that up.

LIC, What do the tattoos look like that she regrets?

If, and when I commit to a tattoo, or anyone for that matter they should not be asking on a forum for ideas,  obviously they are not as commited to something as permanent as a tattoo.

whatever...

If anything, you should have gone to the tattoo parler (after selecting which one by looking at their works) and looked at the plethora of designs there. I\'m sure you\'ll find something.

Evi, that\'s why you go somewhere that pours the ink into individual cups, and then throws away the excess.

Best not to talk about things you have no clue about. If you go to those places, you deserve what you get. Same as if you get your ear pierced in the mall with a gun.

That\'s good to know. I haven\'t been to that many tattoo places yet so I don\'t know about different procedures.
