Direct copy, paste, don\'t shoost the messenger.
http://www.gamerandy.com/archives/2006/02/ps3_skuered_1.shtml
According to EB and GameStop employees, there will be two PSX3(aka PlayStation3) SKUs, one for $400 and the other for $600. Only the $600 limited edition version will playback BR-ROM movies, the $400 basic unit won\'t.
---------------------
Taking bets on the actual truth to this. $600 seems a bit steep, but I can understand why it would be that much :\\
ps- I will be happy if someone posts proof of this being false
-
so 200 bucks for blu-ray? im not that picky with my dvd looking good and uber good so ill be buying the $400 if thats true.
-
600 for me. Why would you not spend 200 bucks for a blue ray? You are retarded if you don\'t. That is not an opinion.
-
fuck that, release one SKU at 600$
noone, who wants one, will balk at the price
then watch the xbox !!!!!!!!!\'s laugh and mock thier way into 3rd place

my point i dont want a blue ray any time soon. Plus u get what u pay for..the ps2 dvd player is crap compared to a stand alone dvd player. Doubt itll be any different with blu-ray.

Can I quote you here in about 11 months?

I don’t believe that for a second.
Why take out Blu-Ray Video support? It will not cost extra to have Blu-Ray Video support, the drive is already in the PS3 (as its a format for the games)! The decoding is handled by the CELL+RSX so no extra silicon is required, and Sony does not have to pay any fees to the BDA because they are one of the founding companies.
The price of the PS3 is a closely guarded secret, don’t believe any rumours regarding the price until Sony makes a real announcement.
This is what Kutaragi said after the PSP price was announced.
“As with the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, the PSP\'s price wasn’t decided until the very last moment,“ said Kutaragi. “The price was kept a secret even to the company. I didn’t even reveal it to my wife. And, so, there were actually surprised people inside of Sony.”
I bet the same thing applies to PS3. :)
-
I think its just a rumor and hopefully only one version of PS3 for sale and that one version can play blu ray movie out of the box instead of add on or software requirement. I say the price tag for that should be $500.
Sure Sony isn\'t making money selling it for $500, they probably losses money doing it that way. But they will make profits in a couple of years or so as prices of those expensive electronics goes down.
Also, PS3 can make up the hardware sale loss by making profits on softwares and accessories sale.
on the accesories sale, you can bet many consumers may buy an extra controller, possibly wireless one compare to the bundled one that is possibly wired and an HDMI cable for HDTV that have an DVI or HDMI input.
Again, that\'s just my own personal speculation.

My ass still hurts from buying the Xbox 360 premium sku.
Can\'t wait to pick up Nintendo\'s system with - get this - some games.

Sony wants a blu ray player in every home.
Bluray option with every PS3 means one more household playing bluray movies, so why would SOny shoot themselves in the foot by selling a PS3 that plays blu-ray games but not movies. How long woul dit take for hackers to get around this and make Sony\'s $200 more PS3 option obsolete
Sony won\'t be selling 2 different models IMO, it defeats the purpose on making sure bluray is a part of every PS3, and in as many homes as possible
-
i think theyll do the same as the 360 and do some weird pack thats more expensive for wireless controllers and some other gadget (not sure if theyre even having controllers with wires).

You can quote me. I won\'t buy one until they are at least $100 bucks.

SO you\'re not going to buy a PS3 until Sony launches the PS4, because the PS2 isn\'t even $100 yet, so the odds of the PS3 seeing the $100 price point are slim to none.

Well, then you have to wait at least 5 to 6 more years before no name brand Blu Ray player is at the price range if you look at how long it take DVD players to get to that price range...

[mm]gimmick [/mm]
Two version of ps3 that sucks ass. I already hate that there are two verions of the xbox. And everyone got in MS ass for having two version. If there are two version I would be pissed. And who would want the $400 unit?
One of the big selling points of ps3 is blueray. And with the hd and blueray battle that would be stupid to have two seperate versions.

No. I won\'t pay buy. Have no problem with saying that.
Oh and unless I wasn\'t clear, I won\'t buy a blu-ray player until they are around $100 dollars. I certainly won\'t buy a PS3 for it\'s blu-ray playback, espically after the piss-poor DVD playback.

No big loss there.

Isn\'t that comments is like contradicting itself there?
If you say PS2 have poor dvd playback, you think a $100 stand-a-lone Blu Ray player will outperform the PS3 on blu ray movies playback?

PS2 = Piss Poor DVD playback.
$100 dollar DVD players had better playback.
It\'s a fact.
Will the same apply to the Blu-Ray? Maybe not, but I won\'t bother gambling on it.
-
What about a $400 PS3 with BR playback>$1000 BR only player?

this wasn\'t true when the PS2 launched, but is more then true today.
bluray is supposed ot be superior early on in the PS3 thanks to the CELL and RSX
I\'m sure future bluray DVD players will include cell technology, but early on the PS3 bluray will eb superior, and thats what we wnat until we can pick up a cheap bluray player with superior features

Eh?
I remember plenty of driver and firmware updates just so that the PS2 could playback a lot of COMMON movie\'s. I have no need to go through that again.

What...about..neither?
I am not paying $400 dollars for a console just because it has Blu-Ray. When I buy console, I want it for one thing and that is gaming, therefor, I don\'t want to pay an extra $100 or more for a feature I consider useless. If I decide to jump on the Blu-Ray bandwagon, I\'ll wait until the players are reasonably priced.

What about a $200 PS3 with a great list of good games AND a BR then?

Well if you already have the PS3 that can play Blu-Ray, wouldn\'t you be a little curious and pick up a movie or two to try on it?

So, you would rather play games using the DVD format instead of spending a bit more for the Blu Ray format for games.
If a console support blu ray for games, then it\'s not going to cost anymore for Blu Ray Video playback.
In your view, how much should a stand-a-lone blu ray players should cost that you consider it it to be reasonably priced? $100 or less won\'t cut it. Expect questionable video processing quality and questionable video accuracy. Not to mention crappy remote control, possibly slow response like skipping chapter, fast fowarding, rewinding, going directly to menu, etc...

blu-ray is the future

Too funny, I never had a problem. Bought the remote downloaded the driver and watched movies.
I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. I bought a stand alone DVD player 3 years after the PS2 for $80 that destroys the PS2\'s capablities, but this was 3 years later.
I\'ll be all over the PS3 on launch day PS3 just for the games and system, but it will be nice to have a bluray player ready to go when the bluray dvd\'s become available ot rent.
-
y\'know i gotta be honest..i\'ve never had any problems with the dvd playback on the ps2. works fine to me. but i know i\'m not gonna front 400 - 600 for a new system. my limit with consoles is the 300 mark...regardless of the technology.
-
Lemme get this straigh....Both the PS3 play blu-ray game disks, right? But the more expensive one will also play blu-ray movies?
Heh! I can see this getting hacked.

I can see this not happening. Its pointless to make it do one and not the other. They\'ll shoot themselves in the foot with that.

Remember, RUMOR.
That seems to be false (http://www.ps3news.ca/02062006/20/rumor_killer_ps3_will_only_have_1_sku?PHPSESSID=aef15aa02f53ccc38b27ba6b3eca8e4b)

Not true and but even if is true, it doesn\'t mean I have to embrace it anytime soon. The industry will continue to produce DVD\'s for years to come and people like me, who are to cheap to buy into Blu-Ray, will just buy DVD\'s.

Oh yes you will. not only will you embrace bluray, but you are fully expected to pre-lube for the eventual ramming of bluray technology.
You can kick, you can scream, but the Sony insertion is inevitable.... Just relax, and try to enjoy it and it won\'t be so painful. If you try tp resist and struggle there may be stiches involved... you\'ve been warned

anyone notice the price drop in ps2 games? most that iv seen are like 40 bucks..sports games are 30 and 20.
Just noticed with the increase in price with next gen..they lowered the price on the current generation pretty early.
-
when will God of War be a player\'s choice game? I wanna pay $20 for that :D
