I once had lines across my monitor. Replaced the video card and didn\'t have that problem again. It has no relevance to the topic but just felt like sharing anyway :)

does your camera have a "macro" mode, enable that so you can take a good picture of the close up.  In this case, the close up of the screen so the picture won\'t get blurry.

But judging from the pic, it looks normal to me, except interpolation and upscaling resolution artifacts which is quite common on most LCD...

say, if your LCD have a resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels on screen.  But you output your graphic card different than the native resolution, you will get upscaling or downscaling artifacts.

Say, like this, 1024 x 768 upscale to 1280 x 1024, or interpolate to that resolution.  You will get upscaling artifacts since i believe most computers does mediocre or somewhat passable job on scaling the image, but not good enough...

Added:  Unlike CRT, which isn\'t a fixed pixel display, can be output many native resolutions without problems and no need of scaling the image or interpolation.

It isnt normal though.

The line is in one place, and goes "static" in between colors.

I upscaled the resolution, still nothing.

No macro mode on computer. I could draw a picture if that\'ll help :D

What should I do?

The problem is with your monitor... And I\'m almost positive it\'s not something you can fix yourself.

Three things to try.  (the third one only if you scratched your monitor).

1) Turn off monitor, let it cool.  Get a screen-safe cloth.  Apply pressure over area.  Turn on monitor (let it warm up, 30-60 sec), remove pressure.  See if it helped.  (This is for fixing stuck, not dead, pixels, but perhaps the liquid crystal has gotten displaced with a blow/scratch to the screen).

2) Check your connections.  Both to the computer and to the power.  Make sure everythings tight, and if you are using any extension cables or powerbars, try direct-connect.  If you are using DVI, try VGA, or vice-versa.  If you have one I would plug it into another computer as well.  ALSO to double check it\'s a monitor problem, use the OSD (on screen display) on the monitor, and move it to be in front of the line.  If it\'s affected, it\'s monitor, and not signal/hardware/interface.  It\'s also a replace/return problem.

3) For a scratch on an LCD, use vaseline and rub it gently into the scratch, then wipe away the excess.  Nothing really fixes a scratch, but this will make it less noticible.

Keep in mind that pretty much 99% of problems that can affect an LCD screen are not reparable by even knowledgable end users, so you might be SOoL.  A quick google reveals that virtually every post on the net with \'vertical line\' problems on LCDs ends up in replacement/return.  If you can\'t return/repair this monitor (too old), and the line really bugs you, then you might as well open it up and check for loose contacts or any obvious damage (hopefully yours isn\'t one of the ones all glued shut).

(e),

are you sure those colored line isn\'t part of the picture on the desktop?  If the colored line doesn\'t go away.  Most easiest solution is replace it with another LCD monitor before it goes out of warranty.

I drew the red circle.

If you know how to fix the line- please tell me.

Yes, I know its not part of the desktop, it covers over everything - games, visuals, everything.

Well even if I help you with the line, you still have the blurriness problem.
Title: monitor troubles
Post by: Paul2 on February 11, 2006, 03:48:23 PM
that is mean vid.

Just go and exchange the same LCD monitor where you bought it from to see if the same problem occurs, (e)....

Then if it occurs again, either your computer sucks or the company who made your monitor sucks.

The monitor isnt blurry at all actually. Its only the line- the reason it appears \'blurry\' is from taking a picture of it.

If someone could offer me a home remedy that would be the best - I don\'t think I have any of the materials to return it (box, manual etc.)- and the place I bought it from are probably going to demand those as well as the monitors (douche bags).

have you try to rub it off with a cloth?  How about spray some water on it and stuff?  If it doesn\'t go away, I have no idea what to say.

Out of the dozens of \'monitor had to be returned\' google results I got with your problem, ONE guy had fixed his screen by opening it up, finding a wire that was shorting out with some power component running to the panel.  Fixed it by separating the wire.

That said, you probably don\'t have the exact same problem, probably don\'t want to be opening up your monitor.  Just *find* the box and exchange it.  If you don\'t have the reciept (which would be dumb, if you have a return/replacement program), then go and ask the store for another copy of the reciept, assuming you put yourself into the computer when you bought it.  If not, you are up shit creek.

Maybe the monitor is pissed off that it has to spend it\'s life in an igloo.

fuckin aye. and im guessing you were joking about your solution video, because if you do have one i would forever be in gratitude.

Guess I\'m going to have to return it.

Funny thing about returning things in Juneau: We have 1 store, Fred Meyers, that is it. Every time I go to return something they make such a big deal out of it, especially if its electronic.

Oh boy am I excited.

I bring my monitor to the store to return it - demanding a new one. They were out of the 17" (which I had), and they said I was out of luck. Well I was like fuck that - and made up a story that I was leaving town, and had to return it here.

I payed 20 dollars difference, and got updated to a 19" monitor. look at me messy desktop :D
