Title: Metal people..
Post by: Viper_Fujax on February 15, 2006, 12:51:07 AM
im bored..looking for music.

Im trying to find another band like lamb of god. Theres a few with similar guitars but the vocals arent as good (black dahlia murder).

If you know lamb of god songs, the kind im looking for are blood of the scribe and laid to rest style.

There is a very cool industrial trance band from France called Tamtrum. The frontman used to be in a black metal band but has since gotten involved in electronica.

Its pretty dark, very loud and very, very in your face. I\'d definately recommend it, as well as their big club hit "Le Son De La Pluie (Fils de Pute remix by Grendel)

Otherwise theres always new Combichrist or Leather Strip....

More looking for..melodic metal. At least the guitars. Not really sure what they are.

Bands like:
At the Gates
Lamb of God
Black Dahlia

I couldnt find the french band or combichrist..but leather strip was kinda rob zombie\'ish.

Lamb of God kicks some major ass.

Check these out:

Arch Enemy (death metal, vocals are great - especially from a female  )

Although I would recommend this over arch enemy - a must have if your into Lamb of God...

checked out mastadon on itunes..pretty good.

Just cant find the same guteral energy like lamb of god..

i havent liked a band as much as lamb of god in a long ass time..laid to rest gets me headbanging every time i listen to it.

Found a band called trivium thats pretty good. But they have singing breaks that can be a little cheasy (on the first album at least..from what iv heard on the second one theres less singing breaks). But the guitars are good. They were going to be at the LOG/Slipknot/shadows fall concert i went to but they backed out for some reason.

strapping young lad.
:D

Tho\', I suck, because I happen to love Devin\'s solo work.

Personally, I want to find more bands like Opeth, but none seem to exist.

Porcupine Tree is kinda like Opeth sometimes.

Will check them out then.

Be honest, when I\'m sitting at home with the girls, I usually listen to laid back stuff (oldies / blues / etc), but when I\'m on my way to work or in the car by myself, it\'s metal all the way.

LiC you might want to check out Pain of Salvation as well, they have some excellent stuff.

Pain of Salvation doesn\'t really sound ALL that much like Opeth to me.  They are pretty incredible though.  I think I like them better than Opeth.

Better than Opeth?
No such thing...

no no don\'t sound like Opeth but if one appreciates Opeth then chances are you\'d like Pain of Salvation\'s stuff.

whoever mentioned porcuppine tree in comparison to opeth- i\'d have to disagree...

porcupine tree although melodic - sound very different, and get no where near as heavy as opeth.

They are an awesome band though - get In Absentia, LIC. :D

i forgot opeth. I never got into them because they had a number of cd\'s out..never know where to start with bands that have a bunch of cd\'s.

What are your guys\' favorites from them?

Opeth\'s older stuff is harder to get into but extremly good.

Still Life was a change in their sound, more mature than their older stuff. Blackwater Park is a nice first album to buy, either that or Still Life.

I\'d agree, start with either Blackwater Park or Still Life.  Blackwater Park was the album that got me into them, but either of those albums has a good sampling of what they\'re about.

Yeah, Porcupine Tree reminds me mainly of Damnation.  That\'s why I said they sometimes sound like them :p

Anyone else seen Lamnations?

I got it a while back - what an great live dvd :D

I thought the little \'behind the scene of damnation/deliverance\' was kind of cheesy though, eh.

It is a good DVD.  As is Pain of Salvation\'s Be DVD.  Got both at the same time a lil while back.

Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Still Life.

Unearth is pretty good. Also, I think Deliverance is an easy CD to get into Opeth. They do everything on that CD. If you like the entire CD, then just go out and buy all the Opeth CD\'s and you\'ll be musically un-bored for a good 2 months at least.

Dark Tranquillity is a great band.

And In Flames just relased a new record.

Sweden and Norway (pretty much the same to me,lol) have some of the best metal bands.

Make that most of the best ones :p

Post by: Viper_Fujax on February 23, 2006, 05:36:07 PM
true.

didnt really think about looking more bands from there. I just know the obvious ones like meshuggah, at the gates, in flames, children of bodom (kinda got tired of them), dimmu borgir, etc..and whatever else my brother played with "this bands from sweden".

Let us not forget Opeth and Pain of Salvation, prolly the two artists discussed most in this thread :)
Title: Metal people..
Post by: Viper_Fujax on February 23, 2006, 06:07:52 PM
yea but i dont listen to them completely. Nothing more annoying than people who just start to get into someones music and thinking they are the shit for liking a band.

Theres A LOT of those metal people here..so damn annoying.

and the people that think "anything besides black metal is gay" bs. Iv looked at bands theyve talked about and the vocals are just plain bad and all the instruments are meshed into eachother. The "blackest" ill go is morbid angel, who kicks ass. Guess i just have a fine line between morbid angel and the other bands like them.
Title: Metal people..
Post by: shockwaves on February 24, 2006, 06:46:04 AM
Black metal is definitely the second gayest type of metal.  Sure, I listen to a lot of it, but that doesn\'t make it not gay.

Now Power metal, THAT\'S gay.  (I listen to a lot of that too)

Well Fujax a bunch of the bands you mentioned aren\'t from Sweden but Norway and Finland.

Morbid Angel is death and is a part of the Florida death scene.

And not all black metal is badly recorded there\'s a bunch of good stuff out there, Darkthrone, Emperor, Mayhem and Immortal all have some nice stuff.... and some plain bad stuff.

Hm, didnt know finland was in the mix.

i dont really know the difference between all the different kinds, lol. I just know my taste seems to be more thrash/speed metal (i think..knowing me its probably called something else).

I got all of the haunted cd\'s from my brother and theyre cd\'s are pretty awesome. I had their newest one for a while but not the earlier ones. My brothers band plays trespass really well.

A friend also showed me a band called Gojira. Think theyre from france, but they have some good stuff.
