Title: New Car
Post by: Mr. Kennedy on February 17, 2006, 08:25:33 PM
My old car was destroyed in a Car Accident, the insurance was enough to get me a nice down payment on a new car.  I present to you the 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rollingout.com%2Fimages%2Fb2blog%2Fwk09_08_05%2Fexterior.jpg&hash=208975bedadd1cd1262438934285188d2a8a33cc)

Nothing expensive, but sporty as hell!  I test drove one and fell in love with it.  It comes with a nice Sound System, and a panaramic sun roof.

Just wanted to know if anyone else had any opinions on these, or previous Eclipse models.

Congratulations, as always on the new car.  I love car shopping, and any automobile purchase, especially a NEW car is a moment for celebration.

Having said that, you should have bought the GT with the 3.8 liter V6.  :)  162 hp in a car weighing 3,300 pounds is not really ideal.

Did you get the manual or automatic transmission?

The new Eclipse has definitely grown on me.  Always a head turner on the street, and I\'m sure it\'s a blast to drive as well.  Congrats!

Your flushing money down the toilet driving a V8... With gasoline prices they are right now, V8\'s are going to fizzle out sooooo quickly.

and hurricane if you really believe v8\'s will fizzle out. You\'re a moron.....  V8s will be around forever. The true muscle cars will never fizzle out.  LPG makes them cheap to run or just as expensive as a v6 on fuel.

I\'m not saying they\'ll cease to exist... I\'m just sayin sales numbers on V8\'s have dropped dramitically over the past few years... and this trend will continue as long as gas prices soar.  Smaller more gas-efficient cars are on the rise in America.

Why do you bother to mention "fuel injected?"  Every modern car has fuel injection.  Maybe there are some russian trucks that are still manufactured with carburetors...

There are some very fuel efficient V8s, but generally they achieve maximum efficiency only if driven carefully.  The LS2 in the C6 Corvette makes 28mpg highway, and that is a conservative estimate.  My cousin\'s C5 has been known to reach 32 mpg while cruising at highway speed in sixth gear.  The engine only turns at around 1,500 rpms, and still has plenty of torque for highway cruising.  There are also new V8s available with cylinder deactivation features that let you enjoy the best of both worlds.

I agree that I prefer light, super efficient small displacement engines.  Forced induction, especially turbo applications usually gobble fuel.  If that is your primary concern then you\'re better off with a low power economy car like a Hyundai or a Toyota Echo.  However, there are several engines out there that strike a good balance between fuel efficiency and power.

a v8 running on 4 or 6 cylinders isn\'t my idea of a efficient v8 just one that disables cylinders to conserve fuel. Why do u go on about fuel consumption being my concern?  i couldn\'t care less.    Unless that wasn’t directed at me. I was simply stating V8s will always been around, fuel costs or not.

As for all current cars being fuel injected.  No kidding!!    really??

Just force of habit. Not all turbos are fuel injected.
Title: New Car
Post by: THX on February 19, 2006, 06:40:28 AM
Inject fuel into the turbos or the cylinder head ?_?

V8\'s will fizzle out sooner or later.  If history repeats itself we\'ll find something much better than the internal combustion engine.  I\'d imagine some would be kept around as "classics" but will be running off alternative fuel.  4-cyl would be around a little longer just like hybrid cars have them now.  I\'ve seen the future and this will be happening in 2000.

A car only needs about 15 HP to maintain highway speeds.  Why do you need to burn fuel in 8 cylinders?  The ability to turn off cylinders as needed kicks ass and will become very common in only a year or so.

Oh, and HURRICANE...  CHange your fucking Usertitle.  ya fag.

Get a job, start making the payments, regret it later. That\'s my advice to you. I will never buy another brand new car, once mine is paid off, that\'s it. No more car payments. Car payments = teh suck.

Speaking of which, how does a college kid afford all these toys, eh?

^^^ Car payments suck ass. 2 years later and you are going to be wondering why you bought the thing. The value of the car is going to be way down and you still owe a huge amount on the car.

I have been very greatful to not have to get a car note. Last car note I had was in 2001.  I just got a 2004 dodge intrepid. Paid for it cash.

I do, and I still think I\'m gonna find someone to buy out the lease on my trailblazer. If I had known my boys were such good swimmers, I would not have gotten that second new car. The payments equate to $420 a month including insurance,  not counting gas. I gotta buy a house, and I don\'t know how long Kyoko\'s gonna be out of work for. Ah fuck it, I\'ll start a new thread.

Ok....first off, the V8 in my car has a lot better fuel economy than a lot of 6 cylinders out there. Secondly, V8\'s may fizzle out in cars like a sedan but they will never fizzle out. Trucks require a lot of power to tow and haul things and V8s make the torgue to do that at lower RPMs. Try doing a lot of towing with a V6 with the same horsepower but torgue at a higher RPM which is their nature, you are going to be getting such shitty gas milage. V8s will never burn out. They will always be needed.

That’s fucken retarded man. Maybe v8s and all current engines will no longer be around in 2000+ years. (we won\'t be around to prove otherwise)  V8s will be around for a  long long time. Wither they are used in classics or trucks. If they\'re in use, they\'re around.

I agree with lic, better to own your car, then pay of the real owners (the bank)

Yep.
By the time interest adds up and you pay your car off, it\'s just not worth it. Not when you think about how you could just buy something cheaper, not have a car payment and save the money for something more important, like a house. I bought my car when I was young and stupid and regret it. Car payments plus full coverage insurance is nothing but a pain in the ass. I plan on paying extra this year and getting it paid off so that I can be done with it. I\'ll NEVER EVER own another new car.

Of course, there is an exception to this rule.
You make good money and are stable in the real world. Being in college does not count. Vid\'s case counts.

I don\'t have the money to shell out for a used car in one lump sum.

Monthly payments is something I can handle at this point in my life even if it means I pay more in the long run.

Bullshit, lie some more.

1: If you had enough for a "nice down payment", you had enough for a used car.

2: If you have such a nice weekend job there is such a thing as saving money for it.

Want a new car, fine, but don\'t make some excuse about "your perspective", because it\'s a bullshit lie. I was just pointing out, that for a college kid, while a new car is thrilling, it is not the smart thing to do, but you\'re young and you people do stupid things. Young and stupid, go hand in hand.

LIC, I don\'t understand how you think you have a personal insight into the fundamental laws of the universe.

Of course buying a used car is smarter than buying a new car in almost every situation.  A new car depreciates enormously in the first year, and it\'s smarter to let someone else take that financial hit.

I also agree that a college student with limited resources should try to live within reasonable means, and not bother to buy a new car.

However, there are always exceptions.

Some "sporty" vehicles are well known among young people as a popular recipient of aftermarket modding and abuse.  For example, I would never consider buying a used Subaru STI, Mitsu Evo, Dodge SRT4, or (next year) a Honda Civic Si.  The odds that some dipshit has modded it, beaten the crap out of it, and returned it to stock are very high with those cars.  To me the only perfectly safe way to own one of those cars is to buy it new.

Also, we cannot rule out the possibility that other young people may have greater advantages and resources than we had at the same age.  I didn\'t buy my first car from an outside party (non family member) until I was 28 years old.  I couldn\'t afford it until then!  However, I\'m constantly amazed at the stories of 17 year olds who are buying new cars I have only recently begun to dream about.

When you call this particular carbuyer young and stupid, you\'re making an assumption.  Maybe he has more financial stability than you give him credit for.

One final point.  Those who dream of avoiding car payments at all costs and only buying a used car every 10-15 years are headed for one inescapable destination:  They will always own a crappy car.  If you want to own a nice car, you\'ve got pay to play.  Some things are worth paying for, but only true auto enthusiasts can appreciate it.

bullshit. I have not had a car payment since 2001 and have all good quality cars. That I keep up the maintenace on and have no problems with.

When I was young the first thing I did was get a car note. Dumbest thing I ever did. At first it\'s all good. Til later down the line you realize how stupid you are. Insurance is high. Things come up and you still have to make the monthly payments.

It is hard enough trying to afford college and still pay a car note. I would rather have my own apartment than have a new car. I drive a 2004 intrepid that I paid for cash. With my house note and everything else paying a car note seems very stupid.

The car loses value the minute you drive it off the lot. If I were in his shoes I would save for a better car and get my own apartment. Dorms sucks and staying at home with mom and dad is even worse.

Hate to say it, but I agree.

The whole "nice weekend job" may be fine now, but let\'s face it, a college kid most likely does not have the most stable of a job. Anything could happen, then he is left in debt. Not to mention, the idea of being in COLLEGE and in debt with a car is just insane, then count in full coverage insurance.

Don\'t get me wrong, a new car is great, they are exciting. I love my car and still remember when I first got it, but for the most part, buying a brand new car isn\'t the smartest thing to do, unless you have a stable good paying job.

I was referring to people who keep their cars for 10-15 years because they dread spending anything on an automobile.  A car payment, saving for a better used car, replacing tires, fixing dents... they refuse to spend anything on their car unless it\'s absolutely unavoidable.

I\'m not saying you are one of these people.  A 2004 Intrepid probably still looks quite nice.  However, after 10-12 years it\'s probably going to look like a piece of shit, if it\'s still running.  In my experience, domestic cars seem to age faster than imports.
