Title: Ford\'s truck line just became my best friend
Post by: DeAnna on February 20, 2006, 08:30:06 PM
Ford has come out with the coolest concept truck ever...stand in awe as you take a look at this baby. The Ford Super Chief runs on the world’s first Tri-Flex fuel engine, a supercharged V10 capable of running on hydrogen, E85 or gasoline.  When the Tri-Flex V10 is running on hydrogen it achieves a 12% improvement in fuel economy over a non-S/C gas V10 and can go 500 miles between fill ups.

The exterior......this exterior is wrapped in a stainless style-type skin is accompanied by perhaps the coolest truck interior ever that features a glass roof bisected by a leather-wrapped grid and automated ottomans for rear passengers.

The tri-flex fuel system sounds kindof cool. All those fuels use the same principles of combustion. The hydrogen uses the same principles as gas and works the exact same way.

1.  No vehicle looking like that will ever make it to production.  This is Ford we\'re talking about.  It will be diluted by endless committees and focus groups.  Ford\'s idea of a hot looking vehicle is the Fusion.

2.  A 12% improvement in fuel efficiency over a gas-burning V10 is still going to suck.  I guess it would have made 8mpg, and now it makes 10mpg.  Woo hoo.

3.  E85 is going to be too expensive to manufacture on a mass scale.  It will never succeed.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but may Honda or Toyota will do something like this in 6 years, when Ford is in bankruptcy.  :)

Once accountants have looked through all the specs, they will have stripped that concept truck into a regular gas guzzling F-150 with new body panels.

Sorry.

99% of concept vehicles never see mass production... this is most likely part of that 99%

There\'s a bunch of them around these parts, along with hydrogen fuel stations..... the cars do have a tendency to explode ... or atleast catch on fire though.

The amount of energy used to make hydrogen fuel is laughable that we (at this time until better technology makes it cheaper) might as well stick with gasoline.

Technology is there but is too expensive and new technology will improve. I agree. probably 20 years until the consumer is comfortable and manufacturing costs are down. I am looking forward to ethanol but hope it comes down in price as well.  But my car can\'t take it so I don\'t particularly care right now, lol. I\'ll just keep an eye on it and when I go to buy a new (well used) car when I get out of college may end up being flex fuel.

couldn\'t agree more. the only american car maker imo that produces cars close to their concept is chrylser. just take a look at the viper. a few years back pontiac had a fresh concept called the spitfire. Now that car was a concept, but it could have easily been made into production....when they did start to mass produce them..they just ruined that car completely....it could have easily been one of those higher end 4 bangers with a sleek sport look to it,...instead it came off lookin\' like some bulls**t ass gm saturn....
