Developers say the Revolution will not be as powerful as the Xbox 360. They also say it will not matter.
Developers working on Revolution games, according to IGN, say the system will be about twice as powerful as the GameCube. Developers were initially worried by the lack of raw horsepower, but concerns faded once they began working with the new controller.
They also say the system is easy to develop for and inexpensive to obtain. The Revolution’s architecture is very similar to the GameCube’s, and studios familiar with the GC will be able to get their Revolution games developed very quickly. The software development kits themselves cost developers about $2,000, well below the costs of the PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts, and even thousands of dollars cheaper than PSP kits.
The SDKs shipped to developers in waves. The first kits were GameCubes with a wired Revolution controller. The second kits included some adjustments, the third kits showed a boost in power, and a fourth kit contains Revolution internal hardware and a wireless controller. Larger companies expected to have playable demos at E3 will be receiving a more complete fourth kit in the coming weeks. Final SDKs will be made available in June.
Studios in possession of Revolution SDKs believe that the system could retail for under $200, and possibly as low as $150.

quantity over quality!
although i think they are on the right path with not competing for the "fastest" machine.
i just want the fucking things to play games
-
So does the Atari 2600 ;)
Anyway, IGN has not been very enthusiast about Rev. If they are, it hasn\'t been evident in their reports, imo.

I dont think that the harder to develop on necessarilly means quality games

I\'ll take Nintendo Revolution for $200, Alex.

Nothing wrong with the 3DO controller other than the fact to plug in a second controller, you needed to literally plug it into the first controller.
-
I literally hope (bringing this back on topic now) that the revolution sells for 150. Then I might actually be able to have two current systems again. It\'ll depend on how many of those expensive PS3 games I want to spring for though...
-
$150? screams piece of shit to me
-
That was funny mm.
I agree 150 bucks would make it seem too cheap. I think $199.99 is the sweet spot. If Nintendo hits that, they\'ll do just what they wanted to do and find their system popping up alongside every body else\'s PS3\'s and Xbox 360\'s.
I know I\'ll definitely get one. But after forking out for a 360, I\'m not gung ho about PS3...

I\'m almost certainly getting PS3. A Revolution price of 150 or lower would make it a bit more likely to get that too.

or probably a superb job at finding an extremely efficient way of low cost production.
Or probably a ton of ommited things that dont have to do much directly with playing games, like DVD-movie playback, less ports, lower resolution etc which would lower cost.
-
well.. DVD movie playback, apart from the licensing costs, is purdy much free, even with yesterday\'s hardware. so it\'s hard to imagine the revolution not having that ability. the main way it\'s going to save on cost is not having spiffy graphics - which is the main cost driver in all systems.
-
Nintendo is doing the only thing it can do to survive, become the budget gamers choice.
However make no mistake about it, Nintendo games will eventually be come very outclassed because of the huge technology gaps.
-
gameplay or graphics?
-
Technology also offers new gameplay ideas be implemented, or improve other previous ideas
-
you really believe that?
-
yes.
-
nintendo will own everyone with shitty graphics. look at DS. it\'s owning PSP purdy good.
-
uni, what\'s some new "gameplay" ideas?(aside from gimmick controllers)
ava, crack kills
-
The controller isn\'t a gimmick. IT\'S A REVOLUTION.
Get it?
...
I hate life.

Well I know that my PSX couldnt do games that could play like SOTC, or Viewtiful Joe, or Devil May Cry3, or Zone of The Enders etc.Gameplay mechanics/schemes/ideas that were feasable on PS2 but not on PS1.
edit: Not to mention physics and AI generally being improved and playing a bigger part in the experience
Unfortunately only few developers tend to use better technology efficiently and most tend to upgrade just the graphics
-
so how are you not playing the same platformer over and over?
ZoE = space harrier
-
"ZoE=space harrier"? NO WAY!Space Harrier was like playing Virtua Cop using the d-pad instead of a gun and having the target cursor replaced with a pixel character.
You havent put any effort on ZoE havent you??Its not even on rails like Panzer Dragoon.
Were did you get that idea? There is no similarity at all
Same platformer? Is SOTC the same platformer?
Is Ninja Gaiden the same as the old Ninja Gaiden?
Does Viewtiful Joe play just like every other scrolling platformer??
