Nothing like regressive politics...
I just hope it DOES go to the Supreme Court. That way it will get rejected and all these Bible-thumping "family-values" conservatives will just shut up about it.
I think it\'s funny it\'s all men who are signing the bill into law too.

SD? That effects all of what, 4 brokebacks and a mule?
if I was on the Supreme Court I would take the case and instruct the army to dig a fucking mote around South Dakota and let them form their own fucking country. I hate it when useless states stick their nose in the country\'s shit. Like take California for example......

To his delight, abortion opponents succeeded in defeating all amendments designed to mitigate the ban, including exceptions in the case of rape or incest or the health of the woman. Hunt said that such "special circumstances" would have diluted the bill and its impact on the national scene.
I hope that last guy doesn\'t sign it. Sounded like it needed his signature to move on?

You rang?
There are a few little differences between South Dakota and California. Ours is one of the largest and most important state economies in the nation, compared to SD, which is best known for exporting manure.
You should thank us for the important leadership we provide on many issues, such as... environmental protection.

I think the most retarded thing about this law is that you can\'t abort for incest or rape. WTF is up with that?

I read about this before. They passed the law (pro-lifers and bible thumpers) SO it can be challenged in the Supreme Court. They know it will go. They are taking advantage of the new Conservative court in hopes of it being upheld thus bringing down Roe v. Wade. This is why I didn\'t want a conservatice jjudge to replace O\'Connor. O\'Connor was the man (well women, lol). I highly respected her and her moderate views.

Kalifornia and leadership
Who cares about the environment? Global warming? Hello? the earth does go through climate changes - with or without the involvement of human beings. Despite what some people may think, Karl Rove does not have a device that can control the weather, cause tsunamis or earthquakes.
On to the topic...
Even if this does go to the SCotUS and if by some chance abortion is ruled not a Constitutional right, states can easily make it a state law that abortion in their state is legal. States have the final say - not the Federal Government in matters such as this which are not protected by the Constitution.

I\'m sure that Global Warming does have an effect but I personally think its more of a climate change. I learned that Global Warming in like 50 years from now will raise the temp like 2 degrees at most. I think its definitely a climate change.

I am sure prehistoric man and his damn cave fires caused the last ice age according to some people.

Just think if all the cavemen burned wood, think of the carbon that would have went into the air. That\'s how the iceage ended, a primitive global warming. Oh the poor wolly animals that died and went extinct :(

Yup, he signed it. But it\'ll take months before it reaches the Supreme Court. And even now it seems as if the justices will turn it down. Currently there are five justices for doing so - and thats a majority last time I checked you crazy South Dakotain right-wingers.

Which Supreme Court? The South Dakota Supreme Court or the US Supreme Court?

I wasn\'t even thinking about global warming when I mentioned environmental protection. I was thinking about our tougher drinking water standards and pollution regulation. But since you brought up global warming, I must say I disagree with your assertion that this is simply a natural event. That sounds very much like a layman\'s wishful thinking. It\'s worth mentioning that a vast majority of respected scientists also disagree with you.
Regarding the abortion decision, I agree that some issues should be decided by states, but not this one. Setting aside ideological beliefs, this is an important public health issue. Outlawing clinical abortions will result in an explosion of harmful illegal abortions. For many girls who get knocked up, this is not an optional procedure like a piercing or a tattoo. They\'re going to do it one way or another. If we federally regulate other issues of medical treatment, why not this one? Why should we risk the safety of women who have the misfortune to live in a backwards state?

Totally unrelated but... I\'m in shock. I can\'t believe there are still people who deny global warming.
-
Are people denying global warming or are people denying the thought of humans are to blame for it rather than it being a naturally occuring cycle?

Of course that\'s what rational thinking people believe. Like abortion, global warming is a political football.

I don\'t understand why some people think we can control mother nature. Take Katrina and the levee\'s breaking - there is no levee in the world that is going to hold up to a Cat 4-5 hurricane regardless of how much money you waste on it.
Anyway, Core - what I am saying about abortion is even if this did make it to the Supreme Court and abortion was illegal on the federal level - states could turn around and make them legal within their own state. If on the federal level abortion is ruled legal then it is legal in all 50 states regardless of what states like South Dakota want.
I am pro choice, but on the same level I don\'t think abortions should be like going to get a flu shot just because one/two people aren\'t willing to accept responsibility. Though birth control is not 100 percent effective - I firmly believe 99 percent of unexpected pregnancy occurs because none was used.
-
I think kids should be given a test when they find out they are pregnant. If they can\'t handle a baby themselves and both parents have shitty IQ\'s, then suck that puppy out of there...
No reason to have a dumb kid adopted. Let\'s thin out the heard....

thats a lot more than u think. In my astronomy class my teacher said at the rate were going, in 100 years the temperature will go up 3 degrees and all costal cities will be under water.
But he also said that we dont know if the increase in temperature is from us or if were in a period of increase in temperature (same idea as ice age, etc) so its tough to say.
as for abortion, im kind of with giga, buts its impossible to regulate it..maybe, 1 abortion per woman? lol

Apparently a similar bill was introduced in Ohio among several other states. I know the ban in Ohio is for any type of abortion (including ones to save the life of the mother). The representative that introduced the bill is from cincinnati. Makes me ashamed to live here.

This is rather twisted logic. Because we can\'t control these hurricanes, tolerate policies that may increase the intensity of these hurricanes?
I suppose that you oppose the ban on CFC\'s. After all, if we cannot affect mother nature, it surely was not our fault that the ozone was thinning.
It has been proven that carbon dioxide emissions cause warming through the greenhouse effect. The only uncertainties arise from whether or not the current scale of carbon dioxide activity is enough to cause warming on a global level. I prefer taking precautionary actions now over waiting until that fatal scale is reached.
