Saw it today. It was Awsome. And some of you(us) will absolutely love the hidden underlying(to me obvious) meaning and "coincidence"
-
if it has religious undertones, i\'m going to vomit
-
Does the star wars chick show tit?
-
she would have to grow some first

mystique posted it..and the voice in the preview said stuff about being afraid of the government yadda yadda. considering it was based on a comic book, im guessing they used the "city under martial law" from the comics (i never read them..didnt even know it was a comic)..which was probably made before the bad evil bush was in office. BUT, i guess if u need another thing to light ur fire of self worth then more power to you.
Not sure if ill see it
-
No no religious undertone. But it is about government oppression using fear and terrorist attacks to enslave the people. And its in the future in England....wait to you see what they say about the US 20 years from now.....
Good movie. Not overly political it was good. Reminded me of equilibrium.
-
It probably reminded you of Equilibrium because the V for Vendetta book\'s (and subsequently movie) setting is inspired by 1984, and Equilibrium is a "take" on 1984.
-
Lots of things have been influenced by "1984." I thought Equilibrium bore a greater resemblence to "Fahrenheit 451," but that of course was first published a few years after 1984.
I\'ve read the graphic novel, and I\'m looking forward to the movie. I wonder how much of the story will be ported over in full. Alan Moore cited the following influences writing V:
Orwell. Huxley. Thomas Disch. Judge Dredd. Harlan Ellison\'s "Repent, Harlequin! Said the Ticktockman," "Catman" and "Prowler in the City at the Edge of the World" also by Ellison. Dr. Phibes and Theatre of Blood. David Bowie. The Shadow. Nightraven. Batman. Fahrenheit 451 The writings of the New Worlds school of science fiction. Max Ernst\'s painting "Europe After the Rains." Thomas Pynchon. The atmosphere of Second World War films. The Prisoner. Robin Hood. Dick Turpin.

Get over it.

They should of made Watchmen first qq.
-
I\'ll check it out, along with Hills have Eyes.
-
The first trailer made it look absolutely awful. I saw a recent trailer a couple of days ago and it looked slighty less awful. But only slightly. I think I\'ll wait for DVD...
-
I am big fan of action movies, so yes i will more than likely see it
-
Looks awesome.
-
Am I the only one who thinks it looks silly? I mean, the mask... and OH, he throws knives. The horror.
-
It\'s like Batman....but without the street cred.
-
Well, after bothering to actually read some reviews of the movie, most of reviewers seem positive. So perhaps it isn\'t so bad. ;)
I still hate the trailers though...

Depends who you ask. V has a lot more cred than Batman in my opinion. I think you\'ll understand when you see the movie, or better yet, read the graphic novel.
-
the use of "V" and John Hurt as the big brother character is meant to be an ironic homage to the 1984 book and movie
-
I\'ll check it out, along with Hills have Eyes.
heh i definitely wouldn\'t mind seein that!..:p..when i saw the trailer with that mutant girl sittin in the middle of the floor i was like WTF is THAT?...:omg:..:p...i hope it\'s a decent horror joint...the last horror piece i seen that i thought was decent even tho it had loopholes all over the place at the end, was high tension...:jacked:...but anyway it seems that vendetta direct competition at this point would be ultraviolet? i\'ll wait for for cable for both of these movies...
-
There are only two words I can use to describe this movie:
Fucking Beautiful
Excellent film.
[ Go see this movie ]
...but anyway it seems that vendetta direct competition at this point would be ultraviolet?
Um...fuck no. They\'re not even in the same league. I actually got a bit emotional during Vendetta. It\'s very...human.

Now that I\'ve seen the movie I agree with you.

It\'s nothing like that Sammy.

It\'s nothing like that Sammy.
Good to hear. I think I\'ll go watch it soon.
-
If you fear or hate homosexuals then you won\'t like the movie (because it touches on that subject matter). And if you fear or hate homosexuals GTFO.

Oh noes!! Difference in opinion! Get over it.

HOMOSEXUALS you say! Oh noes! I\'ll just go watch Brokeback Mountain again then.
-
This is two chicks, not two dudes.
-
I\'m sold. Might go see it today.
I wasn\'t picking on your opinion before, btw. Just how you used four words to describe the movie. ;]

I just really liked the movie and the subject matter it touched on [i.e. the voice of the people should be heard, etc., etc., etc...]
-
I saw it today, gotta say I loved it. It\'s definately a movie that will stick with me.
-
I ended up seeing Hills Have Eyes. I made the wrong choice. :/

The dialogue will go over your head like a satellite. ;) :p
-
Yeah, it\'s a bit Shakespearean...plus a whole lot of WTF thrown in.
-

BTW Clips, I think a movie is only a "joint" if Spike Lee directs it. I think when anyone else directs, it\'s just a film. At least, that\'s how I\'ve always thought of it. :)
-
Clips, it was all right. Not really very scary. But my theater was full of people who were talking and kept laughing. I think people laugh at horror movies to avoid getting scared by something. It was so annoying.
The movie was average.
I agree on V, though. I hadn\'t thought much of it, but all the talk has my interest piqued as well.

I finally found the time to go watch it and yes - it was awesome.

( Greets, old Centralites! )
I caught V for Vendetta last friday, and thought that it was an entertaining film with an important message ( given the modern times ). The theme itself was clear: governments shouldn\'t have too much control over their people. Given the Big Brother -phenomenon of our western governments - the fact that our money-income and outcome are being supervised thanks to credit cards, for example - V for Vendetta is a wake-up call for those who still live in the numb state of \'not giving a sh1t\'.
The level of interference is, at the moment, still acceptable, but the direction it is going towards... I am afraid that soon the world will look a lot like the one in V. Totalitarianism - the New World Order.
With that out of the way, though, let me comment on the visual aspects of the film. Natalie Portman is very, very beautiful as Evey, and gives a nice performance - although I have heard critisism of her british accent. It didn\'t distract me, at least. V is arguably among the coolest "villains" in movies to date, with his philosophical quotes and ultra-cool appeal. Hugo Weaving does a great job portraying the masked "hero" ( a hero, or a villain? Hum - you decide ).
The ending scene is, simply put, perfect.
As a film, I give it a 8.5/10. As a message to the people, I give it a 9.5/10.
-
Finally got to see the movie over the weekend too. Enjoyed the hell out of it. I\'m not willing to go as far as Joyda here and predicting a new world order from the movie, but meh.
-
I saw it too now. Watched it yesterday along with Inside Man.
V for Vendetta is pretty cool. Kind of artsy in places but overall just a really cool story.
I thought V looked silly in the previews, but they did some cool things with the character.
I\'m just glad he didn\'t talk through the whole film the way he did during the opening monologue. That was annoying, heh.
Verily.

A lot of it came across as being really forced. And it lost a lot of momentum towards the middle.
It\'s certainly a little wierd to be describing it as a "beautiful film".
-
just like passion of the christ, i\'m a little late with this one....i guess i\'m one of the few that didn\'t enjoy this....v for vendetta? you say?...more like B for Bulls**t...i get the whole gov\'t control thing, but like bobo stated, this thing lost alot of steam toward the middle, and never really regained strength until the end, in which even the ending was like wtf? i hate movies that try to be deep and thought provoking, only to end up being too convulted and too combobulated for it\'s own good...
they had a chance to make the gov\'t control conspiracy scenario decent but this movie was just lackluster at best.*all that tired dialogue in the beginning and everywhere in between was just off-base*...maybe it\'s because this thing was based on a comic, but i just wasn\'t feelin\' it...

I think your type of movie is along the lines of The Punisher or The Phantom. ;) It\'s shallow and to the point.
-
I think White Chicks was the only movie clips really loved.
-
heh..gman/jumpy....i actually enjoy action movies and horror joints first..those do not require alot of brain cells :D...every now and then i do happen to enjoy gov\'t conspiracy type movies,...it\'s just that this was not a very good one.
-
This was way too deep for you, young grasshopper.
Verily deep. ;)
-
V for Vagina was a good movie....
V for Vendatta was ok..
