Seems like something is going down on the 15th of March.
First there was a "slip" by KOEIs President where he said there would be a PlayStation 3 meeting on the 15th of March.
GameSpot later confirmed that the PS3 meeting will take place on the 15th, but that it was supposed to be a closed meeting, so no media was invited. However others say the media will be there (and that perhaps GameSpot wasn’t invited ;) ).

Sources close to Sony say the company will be making "very big" PlayStation 3 announcements within the next two weeks. The company wants to get a message out before the end of its financial year (March 31). Speculation is suggesting March 15. We understand Sony will not use Phil Harrison\'s GDC speech (March 22) to make its announcements, but that the firm may be looking to get its announcement out next week, if possible.
The company has scheduled a gathering of Japanese third party publishers on March 15th (Wednesday), and it\'s possible that a release will go out that day. Koei president Kiyoshi Komatsu says that he expects an announcement to be made.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony Europe sources confirmed that a major announcement is planned next week, but would not be drawn on details of what will be discussed - which does mean that it\'s by no means certain that PS3 will be on the agenda.
A moderator on The Gaming Age Forum wrote this.
Some stuff will DEFINITELY be announced in some capacity on the 15th.
SOE rep just mentioned to me that Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (while asking that the screens be removed for now) will be officially announced on the day, along with other stuff.
No idea about SCEW or 2nd/3rd parties, but I\'d say it\'s a good bet.
I guess we\'ll find out in 3 days. :D

yep...there was a lot of talking about this 15th of March...now I\'m too curious Fasty ! :)
-
Probably tell us what we already know, PS3 delayed until next year. :p

Or:
They announce the new design for the controller, the "dildo"

I\'m trying not to get over hyped, but things are looking pretty promising for the 15th. Many different sources saying big news are coming. Unlike CES which was a major disappointment.

If true, Microsoft will have two Christmases for themselves. Not good. :(
Or:

Hehe, I actually hope they don\'t change the dual-dildo too much. The design has drown on me plus it looks like it would be a very comfortable controller. In the rectal area that is. ;)
-
15th, eh?
They announce the new design for the controller, the "dildo"
You fool! That\'s the current design!
-
Only thing I want to know is if it will launch this year. That is all. This reminds me so much of ps2 launch. Major hype and not enough console to meet demand.
-
Damn it, they better come through an announce something!
-
looks like I was right...

isnt it march 15th in japan? maybe this was the official announcement.
-
Is it just me or does this copygaurd story from Sony sound weak?
-
Heh... Europe. That\'s not news.
What matters is Americans still have it for the holidays.
And that\'s all that matters.

I hope so. More hype, more money if I sell a couple of them :)
-
I won\'t care if they delay the PS3 til November if they give us some gameplay footage on it or something. Come on Sony, show what this bad boy can do.
-
If it doesn\'t launch til 2007 they will be giving 360 the holiday season all to itself. It will be very hard not to pick up one seeing how ps3 would be so far away. I hope all these analyst and news people are wrong.

It won\'t happen, and I\'ll play with my PS3 earlier than expected...I\'m italian...
(Fasty ? what will you get for Christmas ? :) )
PS Biz Brief \'06: PS3 Worldwide Release in November !
March 14, 2006 - Ken Kutaragi, PlayStation Master and keeper of big news has announced at the PS meeting today that the PlayStation 3 will be launching in early November worldwide for the North American, Asian, and European territories.
Once released, Sony will unleash one million units per month with a total of six million units in 2006 alone. Production numbers are higher for PS1 and PS2 in their initial years.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/696/696054p1.html
Now it\'s ok for me ;)
-
It\'s about freaking time.
-
wow, cool new. Is this the first time a console were released on the same day worldwide? Or has there been a console that were release worldwide on the same day before?
BTW, what do they mean 6 million consoles will be released in 2006 alone? If ps3 are be release 1 million units per month, and it start in early Nov...doesn\'t that mean you only get no more than 3 millions by the end of December?
-

I\'m guessing 1 million per territory.
EDIT: The GameSpot article says 6 million by March \'07.
Sony confirms delay for next-gen console; says it will support an Xbox Live-like online gaming service--and require a 60GB linux hard drive.
TOKYO--Today at the 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing in Tokyo, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutagari made it official--the PlayStation 3 has been delayed. The news confirmed widely circulated Japanese newspaper reports, which said that the delay was due to copyright-protection problems with the next-generation console\'s Blu-ray drive. For his part, Kutaragi would only say the delay was due to "Blu-ray spec finalization."
Kutaragi told the crowd at the event that the PS3 would now launch in November 2006 worldwide. That dispelled fears that the console would make it to Japan in time by the fall, but would miss the all-important holiday shopping season in the US and Europe. In fact, Kutaragi explicitly told the crowd of game retailers and journalists present that the PS3 would arrive before Thanksgiving in all territories.
Besides the delay, Kutaragi also made official another widely reported aspect of the PS3. He said that Sony is indeed preparing an Xbox Live-like online gaming service for the console, which would be called the "PlayStation Network Platform." Though he was short on specifics, the executive did say that currently Sony planned the service to be "free."
While the simultaneous tri-territory PS3 scheme may sound much like Microsoft\'s international launch of the Xbox 360, Sony plans to avoid the shortages that befell its competitor. Kutaragi said that the company plans on producing at least one million units of the console each month in order to keep the supply channel full. He said the goal was to ship 6 million PS3s worldwide by March 2007.
Personally I think it\'s ok. We all get it before the year ends and hopefully with better/more games.

More:
* PS3 will utilize a 60GB hard drive. The drive is upgradable, and will run Linux. Apparently like the Xbox 360, it will allow the console to serve as a media hub in some way. All games will be developed under the assumption that a hard drive is present.
* Full PS1 and PS2 backwards compatibility has been re-confirmed. As with Xbox 360, the console will upsample legacy games to high definition resolutions, but full support will be built into the system rather than added.
* Final PS3 development kits will ship in June. Coincidentally, that is the same month final Revolution kits will be reaching developers.
* PS3\'s online service will have a basic version available free to all users. It will feature services such as matchmaking, voice chat, and purchasable content. IGN reports that GameSpy has been contracted to contribute to the online implementation. GameSpy was also tapped to contribute to Nintendo\'s DS online service.

How much I hope the HD will be included in the PS3 and without causing Sony any problems. :)
-
wow, i love the annoucement...
but what makes me curious is just how much will the PS3 going to cost if its also included a 60 GBytes HDD? Or does it?...
-Blu Ray built in
-60 Gbytes HDD maybe included?
-Cell processor
-NVidia Graphic Card
How about have 1 Gbyte built in HDD which probably cost no more than a few bucks, and sell the 60 Gbytes as an external upgrade.
-
From what I gather, it seems PS3 will come with a HD by default with Linux on it.
-
After one day, I bet the PS3 sells half of all X360\'s from the entire previous year. I think they\'re floating near the 5-6 million mark.

Well don\'t assume they will only have 1 million units the first month... If copyright protections are the issue then there is no reason the manufacturing isn\'t starting now with software being loaded on the machine at a later date.
Wasn\'t xbox launched worldwide?
-
Wasn\'t xbox launched worldwide?
I believe so.
-
Almost.A very small period between US and EU if I remember correctly.Which is nothing actually.
So yes it was worldwide
-
huh, I didn\'t know the original XBOX was launch world wide?
-
Sounds so fucking good. November is not that far away. And I will make sure to pay for my ps3 is full as soon as I can. Sound sweet I am going to start my ps3 fund now.
-
Wasn\'t xbox launched worldwide?
The XBox 360 has launched? I never would have guessed. I still haven\'t seen one in a store.
-
I think they\'re in stock at stores here, that or some stores are just putting out a few fake boxes on display.
-Dan
-
I\'ve seen them in stores one day and gone the next. Probably that same day. Glad I have my unit. It\'d hold me over until November . . . not to mention how freak\'n good Fight Night is on the system.
-
At least they have plenty of time to ensure there are no stock shortages.
-
now i have to debate whether to buy the first bunch or gather up the patience to wait it out.
Think id learn after my ps2 fiasco, but damn..hard not to get it when it first comes out.
-

How much ya wanna bet there will still be empty shelves come November?
-

To me this makes no sense. They\'ve had 4 months to solve whatever "temporary" production and distribution problems they encountered with this product, but as of today, they still can\'t put the damn thing on a shelf or sell it online. That is a management FAILURE. I can understand if they think limited supply is going to excite consumer interest, but that only lasts so long. After four months, they should at least be able to meet demand. I guess you can screw around and fuck up all you want when your only competitors don\'t have their products ready yet. That\'s microsoft for ya.
If I were in charge of this product, I would be looking to capitalize on Sony\'s competitive disadvantage by selling as many XBox 360s as possible as fast as possible. I guess the wisdom of that approach eludes Microsoft.
-
I need to find a few good stores to lay down some more preorders on the PS3.... I want to have at least two locked up in the first wave, if not three.
-
Great news, one more thing I need to hear..... The price tag. I will pay $450 for this thing if it comes with a HDD
-
I\'ve YET to see an actual XBOX360 in a store. Weird.
As for this announcement, it means nothing until I see a price tag. I use to say I wouldn\'t pay more than $300, but with that HD included, I will go around $400, no more than that. If it is any higher than that, I\'ll wait for the Revolution or an Xbox360 price drop. Consumers goin\' along with these outrageous pricing schemes at launch only equal higher prices each time around.
-
Blue Ray DVD player is 500 bucks right now.
-
Blue Ray DVD player is 500 bucks right now.
That was a quick price drop.
-
oh yeah... NOVEMBER launch baby
-
I am going to predict PS3 sold with the HD on launch day somewhere between $399 and $449.
-
gayyy..just remembered. My brother moves in july and he has the HDTV. I dont have the $$ to get one.
I want a job...but i dont want to work,haha. damn this laziness
-

As much as I like to believe in conspiracies I doubt it very much if MS is trying to excite the gamer population with a shortage. It makes no sense when a game like Fight Night (yeah, that\'s right, I mentioned it again) is out there along with some others that could sell systems.
By the way, gotta get my pre-order as soon as possible. I\'m not going to want to wait for the PS3 like I did the 360.
-
I\'m gonna try and get an HD TV this summer so I can hook this baby up to it :)
-
Are places taking reserves already?
If so - I would consider reserving one and paying on it and a few games .

Ditto but I want to know if I\'m gonna be by my college or home. If I\'m by my college, I\'ll reserve it there but if I\'m home, I\'ll reserve it here.
-
Blue Ray DVD player is 500 bucks right now.
what?Thats too cheap compared to the expected price of $1000!!
-
Yeah, a drop that big is pretty impressive this quickly. Maybe they\'re a thousand in Japan.
-
Think Blu-Ray single players was coined at around $800 at launch of the format, not $1,000.
-
And the PS3 comes out in November. Eight months can make a big difference for a DVD player.
-Dan
-
Exactly. Not to mention, Sony of course will take a loss on the player, if nothing else because it knows the masses will buy the PS3 and therefor support the Blu-Ray format and let\'s not forget, Sony will get money for every Blu-Ray title.
