Title: Vacation suggestions.
Post by: Living-In-Clip on March 27, 2006, 08:48:01 PM
Alright, so the "old lady" and I are thinkin\' about where to go for vacation this year, any suggestions? It\'ll be late November , basically it will be on our annivserary. I know we are currently looking at Hawaii. Anyone been there? Any other suggestions? Cheaper maybe? ;)

I enjoyed the Bahamas.  Haven\'t been on a true vacation in almost a decade though so my advice may be a bit dated....

100% Hawaii.  :)  I\'ve been to Oahu 3 times (business) and the Big Island once.  Do not miss it.  There are TONS of things to do and see.  The weather is awesome almost year round.  It never really gets cold there, but it does get rainier in winter.  Probably November would still be OK.

My cousin flies back and forth to Hawaii and Alaska doing jobs as a ship captain. He says Hawaii is absolutely gorgeous. I say go with Hawaii.

Good deal. It\'s settled.
I just have to convince the fiance that flying really isn\'t the end of the world.
Women are such pussys.

I went to Hawaii in September and the tickets were only $397 each. Sept and Nov are low season for tourists so the deals are excellent. However, you could stay at Honolulu and just be content with the nice beach there or you could take another flight to Kauai, Hawaii\'s "Garden Island". Now...if Hawaiians call this their garden island, YOU KNOW IT\'S FRIKKEN BEAUTIFUL!

Do a search of my Hawaiian vacation. It\'s got pics. Too bad the seach function works only up to the last update. :(

Only $397 a piece? How did you manage that? I have yet to see any tickets in that price range. Infact, I am adding up, six days hotel + flight + rental car is goin\' to run me almost 3 grand. Hook a brother up, yo.

My boss and his girlfriend spent a month in Hawaii and somehow managed to blow $40K (that\'s 40,000 for the lame) because they didn\'t plan or anything.  3 grand seems like a bargain to me.  :p

I went to Travelocity and got it at that price. Take note: these prices will literally fluctuate several times a day. Best to buy at least one month in advance. If you\'re a member of Costco, you can go to Costco.com and get nice deals there.

The earlier you buy your tickets and make your reservations the cheaper it will be.  Look for some packages & start doing some research.

http://www.expedia.com
http://www.travelocity.com
http://www.orbitz.com
http://www.hotels.com

Florida is a much cheaper alternative of course, with kick ass beaches, but definitely not as exotic as Hawaii.  As cheap as I am I\'d probably suggest sunny FL, especially if I just got 2 keeds, imagine that plane ride, ack!!

Any jackass who takes the kids on a plane should be shot on sight. I cannot stand that shit. Trap a bunch of people on a plane with screaming kids, yeah, brilliant.

And we\'re looking right now at goin\' to the Kauai, Hawaii\'s "Garden Island". It seems to offer what she\'s looking for (the great scenery) and doesn\'t seem to be to bad priced. I would say we\'ll book the vacation around June / July. Damn rent a car is the pain in the ass - most places is goin\' to charge us extra due to the fact that neither one of us will be 25 years old, oh well.

Couple of things :

When you get to Kauai, wear a straw hat. Although it may be windy and somewhat cool up in the mountains, the sun will beat down on you and you will suffer from sun burns. Kauai, like Oahu (the main island), has micro-climates. They have rain forest and desert. The best beaches are up north (the beach you see at the bottom of Kalalau is not accessable by car but by hiking - but an easy 11 mile hike). There are other beaches up north in Kauai that are accessible and you will see this famous picture in person:

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fphotosbymartin.com%2Fimages%2Fpcd2270%2Fnapali-sunset-29.3.jpg&hash=66d80bbd2a402dc63b36d168f76d57e1693696f5)

Edit- oops....this is the Na Pali coast. :p Forgot to mention it. And BRING A TRIPOD! You want pics of the TWO of you together, right? :p (BTW, when you rent your car, NEVER leave it unlocked just coz you\'re sight seeing only a few feet away, a few locals will rummage in yer car within seconds)

Go there before sunset. The pic above is taken around Oct/Nov. It\'s the most dramatic since it\'s more windy at that time.

BTW, skip the Fern Grotto. It sucks beyong suck. We did most of our activities up north but our hotel was down south. :(

No tripod - no expensive camera. That is something we don\'t own, we do own a camera that will make the trip. And no, we won\'t be investing in a new camera. Something we probably should eventually buy, but I doubt it happens anytime soon.

Gorgeous pictures. I sold her on the trip due to your pictures, so for once, I thank you for posting on this forum Gman.

You should at least have a mini-tripod.  I carry one around everywhere I take my camera.  It\'s about 6" tall with bendable legs.  All you need is that plus a self-timer feature on your camera.

EXCELLENT IDEA! They cost no more than $10! Sometimes when I forget to bring it with me, I use a  balled up t-shirt (or towell) to set the camera on.

We don\'t have a good enough camera for a tripod and I doubt anyone in our family does - it\'s not a real big picture taking family.

What\'s that site? I see some deals - but nothing for Hawaii, really.

Your camera doesn\'t have to be "good" to use a mini tripod.  It\'s just to allow you to take a picture of yourself and your girl without having to ask someone else to take it for you like a dumb tourist.  :)

BTW, forget about that site59 link.  I just remembered that website is only for spontaneous travel. They only offer deals for trips in the next 2 weeks.

5 or 6 grand you can go on a awesome cruise for that much or even half of that. Uaually covers airfare room meals, heck wake up in a different country port every morning. Im sorry but hawaii is not the only place to go, unless you got your heart set on spending that much on that spot.

Well in the town I live in (juneau) we have so many cruise ships come in town its not even funny.

If you have never seen a real cruise ship, these things are huge. But at least in Alaska the cruises stop in november, because then we start to freeze over - thats all I\'m saying.

(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wildnatureimages.com%2FI%2520to%2520R%2FJUNEAU-TOURISM..jpg&hash=ebd99142b92a1e7a27683a9b7d2fa34ab69f1993)
This is where they all line up, on an average day 4-5 huge cruise ships, all full of tourists are unloaded onto this poor town as they ravage our streets, rape our women, plunder our tourist shops, and capture our wildlife for their own entertainment.

oh yeah that big brown building is the library and that little floating red thing is the tram (takes you all the way to the top of the mountain) haha

(e) has a good point. You can get really good prices on 8 day cruises that make several port stops in the fall. The Cruise ships can easily avoid hurricanes and make stops in other luxury areas. On my honeymoon, my wife an I went on an 8 day cruise on Royal Carribbean\'s Voyager of the Seas. We stopped at Bermuda, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cazumel. Excellent beaches at every stop! And for only $1600 (April \'04) plus air fare.

Yes, I will take my fiance to celebrate our annivesary on a cruise, all with the hidden agenda of meeting chicks.

Back on subject, we\'ve decided on a hotel , how many nights we are goin\' to stay and some of the stuff we will be doin\'. Now comes the part where we start savin\', we already have almost enough for the plane tickets / hotel and car rental. I would say within another month with us doin\' some average amount of saving we will have more than enough for the trip, plus alittle extra.

My wife is a registered nurse, and has received info for seminar cruises. You know lic, thats to bad you feel that way about cruises. Did you know most of the islands in the carribean, are different countries. So when the ships pull into a different port, you get to experience a different culture.

If this thread sucks so much, E, don\'t post in it. If you want to contribute something, then fine. If not, quit posting in it or I\'ll just start deleting your posts, yet again.

Anyways,  what kind of entertainment is on a cruise? I mean, I have zero interest in the gambling and what not. A cruise just does not seem to fit either of us. Plus, there is stuff that I want to do while in Hawaii, like a helicopter tour, submarine tour and other things.  The way we figure it, the trip should be paid for by end of this month, start of next. Then we will just put back money to spend while we are there. I would say by end of next month it\'ll all be taken care of and I can go back to relaxin\' at home.

I\'ll just be glad when my girls are old enough to fly and actually enjoy themselves while we are on vacation. Would love to take them to Paris or something. Oh well, that is years off.

Always been on carnival, and never had a complaint.

Switch to Royal Caribbean. You\'ll not regret it. It\'s top notch. Many of those I spoke on the cruise said they\'ve been on Carnival and it just doesn\'t quite meet Royal\'s standards.

LIC, Royal Caribbean cruises have swimming pools, shows, rock climbing, surfing (on a raised water tread), mini-golf and an ice rink. If you wish to leave on an excursion when in port, you can go tours, take a taxi to their beaches or site see.

And I apperciate it. It\'s something we will keep in mind for when the girls are older, that\'s for sure. I think she also has her heart set on Hawaii, at least this year. Hell, it\'s still seven months away - who knows what can happen in seven months? Hopin\' it all goes well and we do get to go for our annivesary.
