Title: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Luke on March 28, 2006, 01:54:47 PM
Been waiting for this game.

Gamespot gave it an awesome review...

Only problem is... With Baseball starting and my current addiction to WoW, do I have the time to take on this monster?

my issue is PC vs. 360 version, I always think PC versions are superior than console, but I\'ve heard mixed things.

the pc version is superior in this case... as it is in nearly every case

*pc gamer snob mode off*

why build that beastly rig if you aren\'t gonna use it?  Read the reviews, the pc counterpart is the superior version IMO
Title: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: THX on March 28, 2006, 03:09:24 PM
People who have seen both up close say the PC version looks noticably better if you have the rig to run it.

Of course as mm said, there are already tons of mods for the PC version.  Little things like switching your menu window to list 12 items instead of 6 (scrolling through all that is a pita), torch burns brighter, hot coffee mod, etc...

I got the 360 version.

There aren\'t any good mods at all yet. It usually takes more than a year for them to show up so until then, I\'ll stick with the 360 copy. By then, the PC version will be cheap.

obviously you haven\'t even looked

the 360 version is overpriced

But I got a brand new 360 sitting there with no games!

Although, I do use it quite a bit for Media Center.

I haven\'t looked? I\'m pretty damn convinced you are an idiot.

I was addicted to Morrowind. I know the PC version will be the superior purchase in the end, but I\'m not going to bother playing on my PC until there are mods such as the islands with structured towns in it. I know I would rather much play on my 62 inch HDTV and I very well damn know the good mods out right now are just simple ones that slightly improve gameplay.

So don\'t give me your retarded bullshit.

edit

I picked up Kingdom Hearts 2. Looks like I\'m going to take a break from Oblivion for a while.

So yes, Oblivion. That game rocks. I picked it up for my PC although I\'d rather have the X360 version. But it\'d be easier for me to pay $50 for the PC version vs. $450+ for an X360 + the game.

It actually runs pretty damn decent on high settings on my PC, although I just have an OC\'ed 6800 GT.

I play it on and off when we\'re not raiding in WoW. I just got into the thieve guild yesterday and got my 1st trial quest to get into the dark brotherhood.

Very cool game :)

Beside mods and prettier graphic, another good thing about PC version are the tweaks. There are a lot of kickass feature in the .ini settings that you can enable to enhance the graphic (like you can decide which object type reflect on water and which dont such as Trees, building PC, NPC etc..) you can adjust the transparency in the water etc..etc..

Beside a few glitch here and there, this is a great game. The wait since morrowind was well worth it !

No, they are simple by my own opinion. I don\'t see whole worlds being created yet. Saying a game is crippled when it still has all the fun is pretty stupid though.

It\'s not like I\'m not going to buy the PC version so I\'m not missing out on shit.

edit

Please don\'t do the console vs pc thing. Assuming we are talking about multi-platform titles, I\'d actually have to go with PC because it\'s just obvious.

oblivion on the pc is far superior to the 360 version.
to the point where the 360 version is a waste of money if you have a mid-grade PC

skipping KH2, the first one didn\'t really hold my interest

By the way, the 360 version is not running Oblivion on mid grade PC settings. You definitely have not played the 360 version if you say that. Every effect is on. Everything is ultra sharp, AA, HDR, anisotropic filtering, everything.

People will be ripped off as long as the allow themselves to be.  Of course MS or any other company is going to charge whatever they can for anything they can as long as people are willing to pay for it.  Unfortunately for the \'reply with your wallet\' movements, there\'s a lot of idiots out there with more money than brains who sustain such pricing paradigms.

Imo, it\'s one thing to pay for a graphical mod in an online game, but for a single player game where you\'ll get tired of the same outfit after a week, that\'s sort of a sham.

Yet people will continue to buy them (PC or 360).

I believe I read somewhere that they are coming out with expansions of entire worlds. Something like that might warrant a purchase, but it sounds like in the end, bestheda just wants to cash in a little on a modding community that they know exists.
Title: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: mm on April 05, 2006, 12:25:17 PM
i\'d be shocked if more than four-six PC users actually pay for the mod instead of just downloading it for free from a community site (which is never an option with the 360 version)

there\'s dozens and dozens of mods for the PC version which already completely change the landscape/environment and the game has been out for how many weeks?

how many xbox gamers actually paid for counterstrike when it was released?

think a 400$ pc can\'t do what the 360 can?

well, XBOX360 is more mainly a game console, while a PC is more multi-function....

but I do think XBOX360 is more powerful than a $400 PC right now.  XBOX360 runs at 3.2 GHz speed with 512 MBytes of Unified RAM with 10 MBytes of Embedded RAM with a 40 Gbytes HDD for $400.

If you bought a PC with motherboard that support 3.2 GHz speed, and a 3.2 GHZ CPU, with a 256 Mbytes Video Card, and another 256 Mbytes of main RAM, I believe it will cost more than XBOX360.  Either way, a 3.2 GHz CPU for PC is different than a 3.2 GHZ for Video game console.  Both are design differently for different reasons.  One was design mainly for games while the other are more multi-function...

oblivion in all it\'s glory on my x1900xt

All the sliders and options in the Oblivion control panel are maxed.

4x anti-aliasing is on, so is Adaptive Antialiasing (the fancy ATI AA that works on alpha textures too), 8x anisotropic filtering with High Quality AF on also (the other fancy ATI thing that makes AF get applied to every texture at every angle).

Nice screens.   Oblivion looks nice on my LCD HDTV.  Here\'s more pictures I took.

I tried taking pictures since I have a 60 inch hdtv but my camera isn\'t so nice. I wish it was easier to get direct feed shots with a console.
