Self explanatory. (http://www.ps3news.ca/05062006/15/redesigned_ps3_controller_to_be_unveiled_monday)
-
"If it arn\'t broke, don\'t fix it"
if i can stick with the ps2 design, i will.
-
"If it arn\'t broke, don\'t fix it"
o.O;;
I can\'t wait to see the new design. :)
-
Me want me want me want :D
-
Cant wait either. But I hope they will show something good
When\'s sony\'s pre-e3 conference?

Cant wait either. But I hope they will show something good
When\'s sony\'s pre-e3 conference?
Monday (today).
-
"If it arn\'t broke, don\'t fix it"
if i can stick with the ps2 design, i will.
Yeah, I mean hell, why did nintendo ever stop using the NES controller? It worked just fine.
-
watch out, phil!
"the point" almost took your head off when it flew over
-
"the point" is that the PS2 controller isn\'t perfect and IF sony can make it better, why gripe about it?
-
Monday (today).
What time? :)
-
Sony has a pattern of only copying Nintendo so it\'s probly a remote with 2 analogs instead of one.
-
we\'ll see
-
The suspense is killing me. If it has motion-detection I\'ll crap my pants. ;]
-
After playing with the S Controller enough I don\'t know how people go back to the Duelshock 2.
-
The S controlpad of Xbox1 you mean ? Sorry but it\'s got a horrible placing of the white and black button.
Dualshock is a solid standard, also in pc land (thanx Logitech)
-
dualshock 2 > *
the only other controller in existance that was better designed (and if only for fighting games) was the genesis 6 button arcades stick. not only was is extremely functional, but it was damn sturdy too.
-
hhhhhhm no
-
I\'m not a fan of 2 shoulder buttons per side. On GameCube, DualShock and the new 360 pad, it never felt natural to me.
I don\'t mind them, I just think they hold the controllers back from their potential so far. For best controller design I like the new 360 pad and elements of the Xbox S controller and Dual Shock 2.
For its purpose, the NES pad was my favorite. Ergonomics be damned.

-
The S controlpad of Xbox1 you mean ? Sorry but it\'s got a horrible placing of the white and black button.
Odd, cause I\'ve never had problems finding them playing games.
As for you mm, come back to me when you have something to add. And if you\'re going to correct my spelling I can teach you what to capitalize in sentences.
It\'s as simple as holding each controller in your hand and feeling which is more comfortable.
-
The Dual Shock main analog stick was in the wrong place. No one told Sony this.
-
If Sony throws any kind of motion detection in it, I\'ll not only laugh, but it will prove the fact that they have lost any kind of originality what so ever.. Still, I don\'t expect them to add something like that this late in the ball game.
Oh yeah and it\'s been hours...Where\'s this design?
-
They heard me make fun of them and changed it.
-
If Sony adds motion detection I ll welcome it as an addition.
-
If it has motion detection, I\'ll laugh purely because all of Nintendo\'s surreptitious marketing to hold back revealing the controller so other people couldn\'t rip it off would have been for naught.
But I\'m not expecting motion detection.
-
So did they unveil it today?
-
...
All sources point to........
NO.
-
their press conference is happening now..i think
looks like it on gamespot.com but you have to be a member/pay to see it. Gt4 er whatever that 400\'s channel is probably has it but..thats all the way in the living room.
edit: nvm..looks like you dont have to be a member to watch it
-
As for you mm, come back to me when you have something to add. And if you\'re going to correct my spelling I can teach you what to capitalize in sentences.
?wtf?
-
he thought you saying dual shock>* ment that u were correcting his DUEL shock spelling..
-
wtf is a duel shock?
-
think its when someone challenges you to a fight..and gives you the shocker when you least expect it
-
Wow! I watched some news and pics of many PS3 games!!
I am truelly amazed!!
They almost reached the target renders!!
-
Oh btw
The controller
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.r0rschach.com%2Fblack.jpg&hash=50acd3cdb236dd2f69c7fd8790fa2afe56ff11da)

revolutionary
-
revolutionary
i sense sarcasm..i mean..its got a usb port..and the little button logo in the middle of the controller. not sure if ill get used to it.
-
dual shock 2 + wireless?!
pure genious
-
Is that official? IGN doesn\'t have anything - I find it hard to believe that is the real one..If so - well, yeah, god Sony lacks an original idea.
*Gags*
Pure genious? Yeah, if you want the same stuff recycled over.. Games = more sequels, no originality... Controller = no real innovations. Go figure.
Oh and \'Fall of Man\' looks like action packed Boredom.
-
analog has been the norm since n64 came out...why can\'t sony just move the god damn stick
and wavebird did this like 5 years ago, nothing special
-
hokey controller = original idea?
parallel analog sticks is THE only way
go go tried and true platforms
-
Hokey controller? The Wavebird is now hokey? What the hell?
Go go same ole\' same ole.
-

Oh and \'Fall of Man\' looks like action packed Boredom.
Yes its official.
And there was no need to change anything anyways.
Its not like the 360 controller was revolutionary either.
And its not like we desperately need a revolutionary controller
hokey controller = original idea?
parallel analog sticks is THE only way
go go tried and true platforms
I agree
-
Go go same ole\' same ole rockin\' controller plus enhancements.
amen
gonna take a real man to swing his wii controller in front of the TV to play video games
-
I found last gen to be the most uninteresting era of console gaming ever. Maybe because there were almost no new groundbreaking innovations in every aspect(graphics, controls, gameplay). If swinging a remote control around like a bitch all day is what it takes to makes things more exciting then so be it.
-
roflmao hahahahaah that was VERY surprising
It has...motion sensing!!! hahahaah LIC will eat his hat!!
Sony is full of surprises really.
-
Please PLEASE tell me that it doesn\'t have motion sensing.
I like how its charged through a mini-USB port. I thought it could have up to 17 players tho...
-

HAHAHAHA IT DOES I AM WATCHING IT LIVE!
They demosntrated Warhawk with the controller HAHAHAHAH
-
So from what i understand.....sony controller=wii controller?
-
 thats killing me!
Here\'s how it went. Ken comes and tells us about the PS3 and his dream of the PS since 1994.
He then tells us that he has a very big secret to show us.
And there he gets the dual shock out of his jacket.
Everyone laughed since they thought it was a joke. It looked just like the PS2 controller. Nothing special.
He then adds it\'s wireless and stuff and has a USB slot blah blah but that it can do more.
Phil shows that it has motion sensing
They then called a dev from Igognito to demosntrate it and voila here\'s Warhawk, flying a ship with just the controller.
edit: Also forgot to add. Just the controller is enough for motion sensing. No need of a separate hardware in front of your TV to sense your motion.
The controller alone does that
-
looks like im not spending 500 bucks on a next gen console
-
The PS3 controller is similar to the Wii remote. You tilt it to the left, your plane tilts to the left and so whatnot.
They had a demo of Warhawk and it was pretty impressive though a blatant ripoff from Nintendo.
-
From the things I ve seen so far from it I am willing to spend anything.
The games they showed were mindblowing. Thats what I am talking about. This felt like next gen. For the first time
You can use up to probably 7 controllers, it has a 20GB HD as standard (60GB is $599), the controller has motion sensing and Sony seems to have taken online service very seriously
-
The games they showed were mindblowing. Thats what I am talking about. This felt like next gen. For the first time
You are officially out of your rabbit ass mind.
This conference was terrible. I didn\'t get a 360 because I wanted to see what the PS3 was going to show and it wasn\'t impressive AT ALL. They showed GT (with better graphics), Dynasty Warriors (in slow motion with better graphics), generic FPS (with better graphics), and about 12 cutscenes from other games.
The only thing impressive was Final Fantasy XIII and MGS4 and even those weren\'t that good.
And the controller?! OMG. Did you see the guy trying to use it? It looked like he was out of control the whole time (Did you see him try to land at the end of his presentation?! lol). The whole thing had the feeling of being slapped into the controller at the last minute.
-
Different opinions are welcome
-
No one besides you is saying anything about that press conference being mind blowing.
The games didn\'t look leaps and bounds above the 360. In fact, if Microsoft comes out with some really impressive second generation stuff tomorrow they could put Sony in a pr hole before they even launch. In fact a nextgen Halo 3 ALONE could put Sony on their heels. This definately isn\'t good for Sony.
-
Geez guys
The "core" pack doesn\'t even have HDMI. What\'s the point of having a blu-ray player if you can\'t even display the movies properly
-
and in other news, sony highly expected to dominate next-gen console sales again.
don\'t kid yourselves for a second
-

So? Thats still an opinion. Kill me for being impressed. Spank me, whip me.
There is still no Halo3. and MS conference hasnt even started yet.
I didnt claim Sony killed 360 or that MS is doomed did I?
When MS shows its offerings I ll comment on that too and I might be more blown away.
For now I am comparing what I ve seen so far not what I ll see. I am not a future teller.
-

This still maybe true, though now it\'s on shaky grounds.
-
says who?
-

This depends on what MS shows tomorrow. People aren\'t going to pay an extra $200 dollars just because it is Sony. If MS\' second generation looks as impressive as it should than Sony may be shooting for a second place finish.
-
says who?
Says the fucking Emperor Qin Shihuang.
It\'s a normal reply based on current facts, man.
-
It\'s official (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/the-real-playstation-3-controller-revealed/)
They\'ve gone with the \'popular\' DS2 design with motion sensing. ALSO! LAUNCH DATE DETAILS (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/08/the-real-playstation-3-controller-revealed/) Nov 17 NA, Nov 11 Jap, and more. It\'s all coming out now baby.
I for one, am a bit dissapointed they caved about the \'boomerang\', because I would have like to have felt it before I turfed it, and to have seen if it lived up to it\'s \'comfort\' hype.
-
People aren\'t going to pay an extra $200 dollars just because it is Sony.
That\'s the way of thinking that sent the rest of Sony\'s finances into the hole.
-
what current facts?
a thousand internet morons flicking thier balls and giggling on forums and such?
Ken said it would be expensive, and have a 10 year lifespan.
really think sony has anything to worry about?
people will line up to buy a PS3
just look at xbox 360 sales
-
Also, don\'t kid yourself. If the customer is buying this for the blu-ray player, the $500 version is NOT an option.
-
what current facts?
a thousand internet morons flicking thier balls and giggling on forums and such?
Ken said it would be expensive, and have a 10 year lifespan.
really think sony has anything to worry about?
Current facts = Price
Wow, do you take everything offensively? It is possible the price may falter its sales. Just because they already said it was going to be expensive does not make it any less of a problem for certain consumers.
-
so wtf is another 100$ on the credit card?
offensively? i\'m a realist and a statistician by nature
this shit irritates me
OMG! LOLOLERZ!!! PS3 is fuxored! 599$ LOLOL ^^^^ -_- - _- roflwrfbbq!
-
so wtf is another 100$ on the credit card?
honestly...
It isn\'t for me at all, but then again, not everyone makes the same amount of money.
-
When people see the lineups, the hype, the demand... the inital consoles selling at 600 will go.... and in a few months, it\'ll go to 450-550 or 400-500, and it\'ll keep going. Sony isn\'t planning ot make the money on console sales, but by massive market penetration and satellite revenue.
-
100$ is a lot of money when you\'re already spending 500$?
people spend that in 2 weeks in gas
gimme a break
:lmao:
planning ot make the money on console sales, but by massive market penetration and satellite revenue.
now that\'s what i\'m talking about
-
100$ is a lot of money when you\'re already spending 500$?
people spend that in 2 weeks in gas
gimme a break
What\'s another hundred? Hah how naive.
-
They\'re getting rid of the vibration function because it interferes with the new weird sensor technology that it\'s going to have.
-
Anyone who thinks they won\'t sell out EVERY production run for MONTHS is DREAMING[/i]. I have no doubt that the initial offering will sell out quickly, but if it doesn\'t, there will be a bonus and a deal, and it\'ll sell fast enough. Sony is loosing on these consoles at almost any realistic price, and will make money later. They\'re playing to win the game, not the period/inning/quarter.
-
Hmm....$100 more?
Atleast where I am the 360 premium is sold at 300 pounds. Or is it 250? When the PS3 is released it will cost 500 pounds but the 360 will sure have a price drop. Which makes you wonder if the PS3 will sell better
It will depend on how much people prefer PS3 games more and want a BR player.
Personally though I am more attracted to the PS3 line up. 360\'s games feel too PCish for my tastes.
-
Oh yea, you Europeans out there.
It\'s the same price.
500 euros
600 euros
ahahahah "same price"
-
because 3/4th\'s of them are already available on the PC or soon to be?
-
Hey mm.
Do you post at the gaming age forums?
-
fuck no, i have dignity
-
The 360 looks good, but where 1 year didn\'t seem to make a giant leap up in in-game graphics and physics for the XboX over the PS2, this last year seems to have let the PS3 surpass the 360 in terms of \'eye candy\' features on games. Both are high res, high detail, but the PS3 seems right now to have better jaggies and physics in it\'s launch games than the 360 has after a year. We\'ll see, of course. No matter what, Sony will sell out it\'s launch offering, and make sure it gets a few million consoles on the market by second quarter 2007, so that it can win the HDTV format battle, and market the cell technology into everything from computers to appliances.
-
because 3/4th\'s of them are already available on the PC or soon to be?
Well its not just that. Although this is true
But I think the price will be a pain in the ass for some.
Not for me(actually it will but I think I ll get one anyways :p). But for others who knows? Already in other forums many want to get one but at the same time the price feels very harsh on their wallet
Oh yea, you Europeans out there.
It\'s the same price.
500 euros
600 euros
ahahahah "same price"
Now stop laughing with my misery :p
Even worse...a CY pound is more expensive than a Euro
-
Man if you said yes.
That might have explained some things about the way you debate.
-

Better physics? You do know the the 360 version of GRAW actually uses the same engine those brand new PPU\'s out there can put out right?
-
I would feel more sympathetic if I wasn\'t so apathetic. Heh heh heh.
Poor Europeans (suckers)

Just minutes ago, Sony made the announcement that its controllers would support tilt sensitivity and showed off the feature with a live demo of Warhawk. While this is a bit of a surprise, it also is to be expected in the grand scheme of gaming. Nintendo has been an innovator from the very beginning, and the best compliment is imitation. Of course, it\'s a little different when that imitation could put you out of business, right? Although PlayStation 3\'s and Wii\'s controllers may share some of the same technology, don\'t go counting Nintendo out just yet. There are some key differences between the controllers, and between what PS3 and Wii can do with the technology. Let\'s break it down.
We\'ve known for over a year now that the Wii\'s input device is what makes it special. The Wiimote (as we\'ve come accustomed to calling it), has the ability to point at any television with pixel-perfect control. In addition, it also can move in three dimensional space, meaning that if a player wants to punch an enemy in the face, they can by simply moving the controller forward. To add to the control, the nunchuck unit can team along with the Wiimote, giving tilt functionality to any game, as well as an analog joystick.
Luckily, Sony\'s technology isn\'t quite the same. Here\'s why:
The technology inside Sony\'s controller is a basic tilting accelerometer device. In a sense, that\'s the same style of control as the left hand of the Wii combination. Think of the technology as true 3D movement vs. basic tilt. The Wiimote will sense all pointing, motion and a new dimension of control, while the PS3 controller will expand only on the specific tilt functions. To make this a bit simpler to wrap your heads around, we\'ve put it all in FAQ form below.
Is this technology the same?
No. In fact, the best way to imagine it is to relate the Sony PS3 controller to the left-hand Wii controller; dubbed nunchuck. In short, you would not be able to play a game like Metroid Prime in the same way using the PS3 controller.
What is the difference for developers?
Simply put, it\'s tilt vs. motion sensing. Monkey Ball for Wii and PS3 would essentially be the same, since it\'s only using the tilt ability of the controller. On the other hand, a 3D tennis game or sword fighting game with swing control elements is impossible for the PS3 hardware, as it requires full motion sensing technology.
Why doesn\'t it need a sensor bar?
Since the technology is based solely off the tilt ability, it is self-contained. Keep in mind that the sensor bar is used for the point and click ability of the Wii functions. It doesn\'t need the bar, since it doesn\'t use that technology. The same applies to the Wii nunchuck. It can function without a sensor bar.
What type of gameplay styles will work on the PS3 controller?
Here are a few examples: Kirby\'s Tilt \'n Tumble (which featured tilt control on the Game Boy Color), Tony Hawk\'s Downhill Jam, racing games (using the tilt to rotate), flight sims, Monkey Ball, fishing (flick the tilt controller).
What type of things won\'t work on the PS3 controller?
The following actions can\'t be done on the PS3 controller with the same precision: Throwing/Catching a ball at a specific spot shown on screen, swinging a sword in 3D space and performing stabbing motions, aiming a weapon light-gun-style, swinging a racket, punching, general 3D item interaction, 3D drum simulator, swatting an "on-screen" fly, performing two separate tilt/motion functions at the same time.
-
I would feel more sympathetic if I wasn\'t so apathetic. Heh heh heh.
Poor Europeans (suckers)
damn you :p
-
Who else isn\'t too surprised by the controller design? I kinda figured this was gonna happen and actually quite happy. I like the controller the way it is.
-
Not surprised, although I suppose it was a bit unrealistic of me to hope Sony was going to \'stick to it\'s guns\' the way popular opinion on the boomerang was flowing. I for one wanted to give a try before turfing it, it looked fairly comfortable for holding, but in any event, the DS2 was all good.
-
yea (http://sonychecksout.ytmnd.com/)
And no I don\'t care if you already saw it.
-
Oh boohoo.
-
I think perhaps we can ignore the trolls, and wait for the results in November to decide whether or not the price point was merited.
-
Perhaps..
I guess it could possibly earn it\'s pricetag though I haven\'t seen anything yet. At the very least it guranteed I don\'t get it at launch.
-
It\'s official, Sony has not one single idea .. Motion sensing? Not as advanced as the Wii, but exactly like the GBA games that had the \'tilt\' feature...Hmph.
Nintendo has my money this generation, at least the motion sensing isn\'t an after thought for them.
Oh and that price tag = the gay. Core package? Let\'s just rip off MS while we\'re at it..... Love how the Sony fanboys think it\'s a great idea now, when it was a terrible idea on MS\'s part.
PS3 and Xbox 360 = More sequels, pretty graphics and no original games , once again.
Remove your mouth from Sony\'s nutsack, please. There was nothing mindblowing in that conference. Will it sell out launch? Yeah, was it mind blowing? Oh hell no.
-
no original games
Right. Of course. Not one original game in the entire console\'s lifespan.
-
It\'s official, Sony has not one single idea .. Motion sensing? Not as advanced as the Wii, but exactly like the GBA games that had the \'tilt\' feature...Hmph.
That\'s what I thought. Sony copied a cheap GameBoy idea. Enjoy your Warhawk version of Yoshi\'s Topsy Turvy.
Nah, it does open up some of the innovations like juking in Madden. I should say, enjoy your hi-def, watered down Wii. ;]
Is it really $600?
I won\'t get one at that price... Not this year... Wonder if I can get Sony to send me one, heh.
-Dan
-
LIC, you can hop off the "originality" bandwagon, noone cares.
companies copy each other everyday, always have, always will.
you think nintendo has original games lined up?
they are the absolute worst, when\'s the last time they started a new franchise? 10 years ago?
perhaps 2% of all games created are truly "original"
i don\'t like the idea of motion sensing anyways, but using a normal shaped gamepad and not a faggoty wand seems more appropriate
default, how i debate?
i find practicality and rationality, then stick to it.
-
I guess Pikmin, Brain Age, Animal Crossing and Nintendogs were the most recent new franchises. And they were all unique for better (first three) or worse (Nintendogs).
Smash Brothers was something of a popular game, and that\'s in its second iteration.
But why look at successful trends when you can stick your head in the sand and pay whatever limbs you have left after the Xbox 360 launch for the same system plus a fancy DVD player.
Heh, I just get a kick out of you on the defensive. ;]
But you\'re right, though, screw "originality." Fucking developers trying to be creative. That\'s so.... I can\'t even pretend to find the logic in that one. Or, if you will, the practicality and rationality of it.
Or maybe paying $600 for PS2.5 is the rational part.
-
That\'s so freakin lame haha.
Like really...GBA catridges were as advanced as that idea. It\'s just a pointless tack on at this point.
-
i guess i should have said "original" franchise.
nintendogs = dogz and catz
brainage isn\'t a "franchise"
nevr played "animal crossing" as i\'m not 7 years old, but i\'ll give you that one.
pikmin = lemmings.
and how is wii not nintendo 64.3?
why pay?
who has the most popular franchises sitting in only thier corner again?
shouldn\'t you be looking for a new gameboy version to buy anyways?
(you da man, eik!)
-
Right. Of course. Not one original game in the entire console\'s lifespan.
Ignore him. You cant take seriously someone who in the past posted in these forums that he hopes PS3 fails.
-
Ignore him. You cant take seriously someone who in the past posted in these forums that he hopes PS3 fails.
Hope it fails? I couldn\'t care less if it fails.
I\'m not buying one.
And new franchises does not mean original. It is the direction in which the franchises go. Nintendo is the only one this generation trying something new. I\'m sorry, but the tilting action is nothing new, friggin\' GBA games done that - whoopie. And $600 bucks for a console? Nothing ..NOTHING can justify that price.
-
As I said ignore him
-
prices need justified now?
ever hear of perceived value?
i remember people giggling and laughing, saying the PS3 would be 800$+
now they mocking 600$
-
I thought Xbox was overpriced... This makes Xbox 360 look like a deal.
In fairness, the PS3 controller is more than GameBoy tilt sensor. The tilt sensor worked from left to right and basically sucked. The PS3 controller can also sense back and forth, up and down.
Of course, the Wii controller can sense 360 degrees in full 3D, sense depth, sense speed, sense physical orientation and be used like a laser pointer/light gun. It even knows how far from the tv you are. They can program it so you can\'t "cheat" in shooting games like we all did playing Duck Hunt. :)
Sony recognized Nintendo\'s good idea and cashed in on it as effectively as they could between Boomerang and DualShock 3. (Minus the Shock.)
-
As I said ignore him
If you have nothing to add to this conversation, then shut the hell up and quit posting.
prices need justified now?
ever hear of perceived value?
i remember people giggling and laughing, saying the PS3 would be 800$+
now they mocking 600$
I don\'t care what you come up with, there is no way $600 is any kind of value. People mocked the Xbox 360 for it\'s outrageous price tag, so what\'s the big difference? Blu-Ray? A HD? You\'re willing to pay out the ass for those two things?
PS 2.5, Eik nailed it. It\'ll have plenty of sequels that feature nothing but improved graphics, if that is what you want, fine, but I for one am tired of the endless sequels with no marked improvements other than graphics. That\'s the main reason I never picked up a PSP and it\'ll be the reason that I won\'t pick up a PS3.
As for sells, yes, it\'ll sell out at launch, but let\'s see how it does long term. After the intial rush, will they still be able to sell them at the $500 - $600 dollar range? Espically when Nintendo will be offering their system at around $200 bucks.
/ goes to reserve his Nintendo Wii , even if it does have a gay name.
Oh and..
nintendogs = dogz and catz
brainage isn\'t a "franchise"
nevr played "animal crossing" as i\'m not 7 years old, but i\'ll give you that one.
pikmin = lemmings.
What is Brainage not a franchise? They are goin\' to produce more in the series, that makes it a franchise, even if it is based off some Japanese tests.
As for the Animal Crossing remark, that is like saying I can\'t enjoy Grand Theft Auto, because I\'m not a "thug". It was a solid game that got rave reviews, sorry that you can\'t swallow your pride and play it.. It also has endless replay value, hell my fiance still plays it at least once every two days.
Oh and Pikimin = the greatness.
-
personally, i thought the "boomerang" looked comfortable
i like wider controllers
pikmin was indeed fun, i drowned every little one i came across
"brain age" is not an original franchise when tiger electronics has been making those kind of games for decades.
GTA had one "thug" title. nice stereotype, you always this racist?
maybe the next one will feature a "ginger" paperboy who rides around town throwing rocks at cats
and speaking of franchises, you going to miss out on a ton of titles without a PS3

Well personally after seeing all these videos, I cant go to 360.
The animation, art direction and physics in the PS3 trailers have sold me out
360 can add lots of visual detail but atleast for me the games I ve seen so far on it were like current gen games with a next gen dressing (texture detail, high resolution, normal mapping, high polycounts, better reflections) and thats it. Some would say I ve seen just the first gen games.
But on the PS3 they showed games that are on par if not better to forthcoming 360 games.
Ofcourse they were just trailers they are still far from completion, no review yet thus living lots of room for disspointment but I wasnt impressed with 360\'s games when they were first shown.

How can you call PS3 PS 2.5? Heres a list of things they added over the PS2:
-hard drive
-high storage blu-ray discs
-High def movie playback
-true high def gaming playback unlike PS2
-Online service
-the BEST next gen graphics
-controller motion sensor
All of these things it did not have last gen. Tell me, does the nintendo Wii or xbox 360 improve this much over the original system? If the PS3 is the PS 2.5, Then the xbox 360 is the xbox 1.1 and the wii is the Nintendo GC 1.4
You prefer the Nintendo Wii over the PS3 and XBOX360. Please do not try and tear down anybody who prefers the PS3 or the XBOX360. You look foolish. This thing with PS3 having non original games is very painful to listen to, considering your console is the Nintendo Wii, which will boasts 10 mario parties, 3 each of mario tennis, golf, baskeball, baseball etc, 10+ Zeldas, and 5 pikemns. Wow, the reason why I may not get a Nintendo Wii on launch is because of the reason you hate PS3 so much, millions of sequels and no originality.

Ken Kutarargi said it would be expensive. It\'s not for everyone. I went out and bought a $1500 HD monitor for HD entertainment, and PS3 is the only console that will use it to the fullest not only with games but also with Movies. So now I can watch High Definition games and movies. Is it worth $200 more than a Xbox 360 for High def games and movies? IMO, yes. In your opinion no, but thats you. Get off our backs about our opinions. $600 may not be a value to you, but to HD guys getting a console that can play games and HD movies for $600 IS a value. Or would you rather have Sony cut back their technology ala Xbox 360 and not include the Blu-ray player to keep it at $400? Sony crammed everything they could into the PS3, and I\'m thankful for that. I\'m willing to pay $600. Do you poke fun at those who spend $600 on the latest NVIDIA graphics card?
And I dont care about its sells. I\'m getting one and Sony will be fine. Sony is thinking about more than the \'console war\'. They have a format war going on with HD-DVD, and they will sell their console at any price to get BLU-RAY out there
thats why there is 3 consoles
choose what you like the best
-
The next PlayStation will offer everything you\'ve seen this generation all over again with nicer graphics. That\'s where I was going with that nickname.
But don\'t take it too personally. With Final Fantasy 13, Virtua Fighter 5 and Metal Gear Solid 4 looking as great as they do and assuming they\'ll have some gameplay to match, it will be a system worth owning, if you have a grand to spend and aren\'t sick of those franchises.
For content, the exclusivity deals seem to be lining up right where they did last gen, with the only difference being that this time, Nintendo is offering something unique with its portion.
-Dan
/and yes, I never looked into graphics card prices but if you paid $600 just for the graphics... well... can I borrow twenty bucks?
-
Hm, OK, I see now.
the problem is I see all consoles and even movies are heading that direction, and I don\'t like it. Before it was just 2 or 3 behind the title of a game, now I\'m seeing 5, 6 and yes, even a 7.....
No I never paid $600 for graphics, but all the time I see people doing so in Console discussion and elsewhere, and they are like \'cool\'. But when it comes to buying a console that does so much more for $600 they throw a fit. I looked at it and said, I wouldnt spend that much on a graphics card. But if they want to spend that much, thats fine. thats them.
-
Before it was just 2 or 3 behind the title of a game, now I\'m seeing 5, 6 and yes, even a 13......
Fixed that for you. ;]
-Dan
-
lol :)
-
come launch date, none of the millions of people buying a PS3 will complain about the price, just the availablity.
-
Fixed that for you. ;]
-Dan
I dont mind the number next to a Final Fantasy.
They arent real sequels anyways
-
Tell me, does the nintendo Wii or xbox 360 improve this much over the original system? If the PS3 is the PS 2.5, Then the xbox 360 is the xbox 1.1 and the wii is the Nintendo GC 1.4
Uh..
You lost any crediablity with that sentence.
What does the Wii offer that no other system offers? Yeah.............. Move aside, troll.

Everything you listed, minus Blu-Ray has been done before. Big whoopie. And the best next generation graphics can\'t be proven. Get into the second and third generation of games and then let\'s talk about which system has the best graphics, because first generation games are not worth even debating over.
This thing with PS3 having non original games is very painful to listen to, considering your console is the Nintendo Wii, which will boasts 10 mario parties, 3 each of mario tennis, golf, baskeball, baseball etc, 10+ Zeldas, and 5 pikemns. Null and void argument. First off, you make up insane numbers such as 10 Zelda titles and five pikimin titles. Hell, we was LUCKY to get two Pikimin titles this generation, so quit talking out of your ass. Not only that, the point is not sequels are bad - the point is the sequels are not offering anything other than improved graphics. At least with the Wii, developers are going to be forced to come up with original concepts on these tired and true franchises. So, once again, you have no point.
The next PlayStation will offer everything you\'ve seen this generation all over again with nicer graphics. That\'s where I was going with that nickname
Exactly and if that is what someone wants, more power to them. I, however, am tired of the same mindless sequels we are see\'ing and I refuse to pay almost $800 (system , memory stick, controllers) for a system to play those tired sequels.
And for the whole the Wii controller is a gimmick and what not - I still remember all the slack Nintendo got for the N64 controller and guess what? It turned out to be a fairly decent controller (minus those god-forsaken \'C\' buttons).. The DS? Everyone said it was a gimmick, turned out to be a damn good portable system.
Oh and just to look back...........
Nintendo adds shoulder buttons to SNES control pad.
Sony adds two sets of shoulder buttons.
Nintendo debuts analog controller.
Sony adds two analog controllers.
Nintendo debuts the "rumble pack".
Sony adds rumble and dubs it \'dual shock\'.
Nintendo makes tilt cartridges and a Wii controller. The "Wiimote" even has rumble.
Sony redesigns controller altogether, takes the rumble out and throws in motion detection.
Yeah.......
-
Uh..
You lost any crediablity with that sentence.

Pop quiz hot shot, how is the PS3 the PS 2.5 and the XBOX 360 not xbox 1.5? Sony has also said they will allow PS1 and 2 games to be downloaded, and they have a stupid motion controller like the Wii. Now what does the Wii have that the PS3 doesnt?

I dont give a flip if its been done before. IT HASNT been done on the PS2. Thats the point genius

Original concepts? How so? With the Wii\'s controller? Not enough orginality if you ask me
So what if Sony copys Nintendo. I couldn\'t care less

Never said the 360 wasn\'t the 1.5. Don\'t own one and won\'t own one. It, like the PS3, is to expensive for a gaming machine that will offer better graphics and more uninspired sequels.
And they don\'t have a "stupid motion controller". It\'s a slighty more advanced version of the friggin\' GAMEBOY ADVANCES cartridges. Get your facts straight, then get back to us.
You have no argument.. The Wii controller will force developers to do different things with franchises - that is the whole point.
Do you even think before you post? At least Unicorn would of had ONE valid point, you can\'t even manage to get that.
Oh and I don\'t care if you care that they steal idea\'s from Nintendo. I was just pointing out that Sony doesn\'t actually do anything original for the industry, instead, they wait for another company to do it and then do it half-ass (for the most part).
-
Everything you listed, minus Blu-Ray has been done before. Big whoopie.
he listed upgrades over the PS2, competely destroying your point.
nice backpedal tho
shame when clowd puts you in place
-

No it doesn\'t. The whole point is all they done was added a bunch of stuff that othe companies done this generation. Add some extra stuff, improve the graphcis and throw a big \'3\' on the end of the Playstation logo. All that stuff added, how will it benefit the games other than storage space? It won\'t, for the most part. It\'s obvious the motion sensor was out of desperation. Blu-Ray is nothing more than a way to win the movie format war. Online service? MS done this last generation. Hard drive? Yeah, MS done that LAST GENERATION (and I recall some of you mocking them for it).
Shame when you are so blind that you can\'t realize the basic things. To think, you use to be cynical and take everything fed to you by the Sony hype machine.
Like I\'ve said, time and time again, it comes down to what you want out of a next generation console. Do you want movie playback and pretty graphics? Or do you want something different? I want the latter. I\'d consider a PS3 at $400, but anything above that and it doesn\'t offer any value for me.

Stop trying
Someone can make the Wii seem worse if he wants to too.
Take GC add a different controller and voila its Wii.
edit: Oops forgot to ignore
-
oh, i\'m far more cynical then even my N64CC days.
so what has microsoft or nintendo done aside from a hokey controller or 15% better graphics? wake me up when they can handle 8xAA, 16xAF, or even really advanced stuff like virtual-boy.
let me paraphrase
PC\'s > all
but why 400$, is that what your budget allows?
600$ vs 400$ is moot
the cost just gives the intarweb scamps something to bicker and giggle about
once the PS3 only titles are released, the credit cards will come out in mass.
-
Come on uni, you\'ve been making a lot of sense, but that last post?
I mean, someone could do that, but they wouldn\'t have the same valid points that LIC had.
-

Two hundred dollars is not moot. I could afford to go pay for a PS3 in full now, but instead, I\'ll be taking my money and paying for the wii.
Hokey controller? YEA...Same was said about the first analog controller.
Stop trying
Someone can make the Wii seem worse if he wants to too.

Doesn\'t apply.
Added tech specs, downloadable content and a completey new way of playin games.
Nice try.

I forgot to mention. Someone can do the same with the PS3 to make it look better too
PS3 has even more impressive specs (real improvement), will have downloadable content as well and a controller with a similar feature without sacrificing anything I loved in gaming in the past.
-
i highly doubt the first analog controller has called "hokey" by anyone
i remember the sega fishing controller was (although i liked it)
they still make em?
-

Without knowing the official price tag, I speculate you can get a Wii and five games for the cost of a stripped down PS3 with nothing.
Actually... I\'ll probably do just that. :)

That\'s my plan.
New Mario.
New Zelda.
New PilotWings.
That\'d be the PERFECT launch.
At this point, the only thing the PS3 has that even remotely interests me is VF5 and I can\'t justify a purchase of one for that single title. Just like I couldn\'t justify the purchase of a Xbox 360 for uh...that one title...uhm,yea.
-
New Mario.
New Zelda.
This is your idea of original?
-
When the new Mario operates on a totally unique controller scheme...yes.
And you\'d be surprised how different each Zelda game is. New innovations everytime.
-
That wasn\'t my point. I\'ve played Zelda since the gold cartridge NES days.
-
You have no point, go away.
-
A new Zelda with the kind of controls its getting is original. It\'s not revolutionary, but it\'s unique at least.
If only Nintendo would announce some kind of commitment to original franchises. Or go out of its way to create new types of games that would appeal to a broader audience.
Oh well, just a pipe dream. Right?
-
zelda are innovative each time?
did i miss something?
-
The point is, 500 dollars is ridiculous, it may not seem that way to someone like you, but the average person who makes up the majority of sales for the gaming industry is going to be reluctant about spending that type of money on a gaming system.
And you made a good point before MM, people are spending 500 dollars a week on gas, so where are they going to get another 500 for a video game system? Necessities such as gas and food come before games.
-
not when they are college students with credit cards.
600$ is not alot of money anymore
-
This is your idea of original?
Jumpy nailed it.
Go away, you have no point.
AND YES, each Zelda game has offered something new to the franchise. They are not mindless sequels (see Tomb Raider!).
-
not when they are college students with credit cards.
600$ is not alot of money anymore
Being a college student that converses with other college students I\'m gonna have to disagree.
-
not when they are college students with credit cards.
600$ is not alot of money anymore
600 bucks isn\'t a lot of money for a college student??? What kind of college kids do you talk to? Tell me when one of these next gen consoles drop to 200 and I\'ll buy one....maybe
-
I\'m saving for a house. The only way I spend $600 for a game console is if I spend $1800 on game consoles, and flip two on eBay.
And I happen to feel a pre-order spree coming on this weekend... We\'ll see.
-

Ditto to the eBay thing. I\'m hoping there is enough hype that I can get 4 figures per console. Its possible I guess.
-
Is anyone even taking Wii pre-orders yet?
-
zelda are innovative each time?
did i miss something?
I tend to agree with you on this one. And, barring surprises with Super Mario Galaxy, it\'s the same thing with the Mario franchise lately.
At least with Mario they try to tweak core elements to offer something new, but Zelda is typically pretty retread. I can only stomach it once every few years. That\'s why I missed Majora\'s Mask the first time around.
-Dan
-
I disagree, I think they only one they missed the mark on there is Wind Waker and that is due to the lenght and the whole sailing element.
Mario Sunshine tho\'...Goodness, that sucked.
-
Is anyone even taking Wii pre-orders yet?
hell no
I\'d pay $1200 for a PS3 before anything Nintendo
Just a personal opinion on that.
-
$600 is some good change for just about anybody. I\'m all grown up and have grown up issues and pay for grown up things and it\'s not easy to say I\'m going to take $600 out of my budget for a game system. BUT . . . I\'m going to do it! ;)
-
not when they are college students with credit cards.
600$ is not alot of money anymore
Credit cards are cool.
It\'s like buying stuff for free. :thumb:

This came from Nintendorks and made me laugh:
Even with one glance, you can see the feature that Kutaragi referred to as "4-D control." This refers to Sony\'s ability to travel back in time and reproduce the exact layout of the PS2 controller. And along the way, they stopped in 2001 to steal the technology behind Game Boy Color megahit Kirby\'s Tilt \'n Tumble.
That\'s right. It can pitch. It can yaw. It can introduce such gameplay mechanics as "balancing" and "shaking" and even "mimicking the functionality of a 1987 PC joystick for flight sims." It\'s unknown how Sony\'s competitors could possibly top this innovative control device. Industry insiders speculate that the only way to disrupt Sony\'s advantage would be to create a controller with actual motion-detection and laser-pointing functionality, a feat that seems unlikely at best.
The console\'s $599 price point further solidifies Sony\'s commitment to its mainstream audience of oil magnates and captains of industry, though a bargain $499 version is available for lesser tycoons.
-
hell no
I\'d pay $1200 for a PS3 before anything Nintendo
Just a personal opinion on that.
What does that have to do with anything I posted? Nothing. I asked Eik if anyone was taking Wii pre-orders yet. I couldn\'t care less about your personal opinion and how you\'d pay $1200 for a PS3 before a Nintendo product (even tho\' you are whining in another thread about the $600 price tag).
Think before you post, please.
Oh and.
 @ that article, Eik.
On another note - is the PS3 goin to have a better build quality? There is no denying the fact that both the PSone and PS2 have had problems with disc read errors. I can\'t imagine paying $600 for something and it dying in no time (ala PS2). Infact, if the PS3 doesn\'t launch without any big mishaps , then they\'re screwed. That is one of the huge things that killed the Xbox 360 - price tag and techinal issues.
-
Oh, sorry LIC, I don\'t know. I bet they are, though. Somewhere.
-

Not to mention the people who WILL shell out 600 for it are hardcore gamers who have been with Sony from the beginning (IE, me) and will pay for it. I\'m not gonna like it but I\'m gonna swallow my pride and write out that fat check to GameStop. Or swipe my debit card :)
-
I wouldn\'t say all people that have been with Sony since the early PSone days will be willing to do so.
-
Oh, sorry LIC, I don\'t know. I bet they are, though. Somewhere.
Every place I have called are saying no, so I done one thru Lik-Sang.com, will keep that one, until I find a physical store that is taking pre-orders.
-
I wouldn\'t say all people that have been with Sony since the early PSone days will be willing to do so.
I guess you missed the "hardcore" part of my post.
-

No, I saw it.
