Title: Wii Sports
Post by: Eiksirf on May 09, 2006, 10:09:18 AM
Nintendo\'s sports game past aside, this is an interesting premise for the genre of games that lends itself most easily to the Wii.

Check this out, and note the cool way the controller speaker will work.

Nintendo reveals and partially demonstrates the self descriptive Wii Sports.

Nintendo (http://planetgamecube.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=11434#) announced the winner of an AOL contest and invited the lucky guy on stage to play a tennis match with Reggie, Miyamoto and Iwata. The game went as you might expect with familiar tennis ball "pop" sounds emitting from the controller\'s (http://planetgamecube.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=11434#) newly revealed speaker each time a player hits the ball.
The tennis game is part of a larger package aptly titled Wii Sports. We\'ll have more information about this title as it\'s revealed. This demo also concluded Nintendo\'s media briefing. Stay tuned for more news and preview updates later today and gameplay (http://planetgamecube.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=11434#) impressions from the show floor tomorrow!

Time magazine previously reported that the controller is so sensitive, it can tell if you put slice on the ball, top spin, lob it up, etc.

i\'m sorry, but standing in your living room, swinging the remote to "hit" a tennis ball on screen is about the stupidest thing i\'ve ever heard.

there is a reason why these things already existed in the past and have failed miserably.

hahaha great thinking.

Takes the gamer in general to a more personal relationship with Nintendo. Even the gamers that wont win will feel that. That competition alone being know to public is smart.

Nintendo seems friendly to the gamer and thats exactly what Nintendo wants to present with the Wii

:)

Good thinking Nintendo

mm is totally self conscious

he cannot tarnish his reputation by gracing this console with his freakishly good looks or "da ladies" might start ignoring him

In the conference, you can play it while sitting down and doing very little movement or you can just go crazy. You can play it the way you want to.

mm, would you wait before you stink up my thread?

Regardless of your opinion, and you\'re entitled to it, I\'m more psyched to try this Tennis game or Red Steel or Zelda than I am MGS4, VF5 or FF13.

Hi-def graphics aside, Nintendo is creating exactly what I want.

That Sony is trying to rip off Nintendo\'s Wii controller has me a little bit more excited in that system, but knowing developers aren\'t taking advantage of it yet has me less excited.

What\'s worse, I know lazy developers can even make impressive graphics seem uninspired (Fight Night Round 3).

I\'m ready for Nintendo\'s next console.

MM ^ One big difference though ; those were 3rd party add on efforts aside existing platforms.

Of course they didn\'t have a wide solid development base to create good
custom games for it.

Wii\'s situation is different because it builds this development base up from
the ground, from scratch. No expensive risky add on\'s to buy, just the
default standard Wii console.

make excuses all you want, but if you want to "play" tennis
go outside, make friends, and play it

or wait a year, get a wii, invite your buddies over, hand them the remote and watch them laugh hysterically

no Knotter8, i mean those single game jobbies you buy at dept stores that let you "virtually" swing a golf club, or a baseball bat in front of your TV like a doofus. (i\'m fairly certain there was a tennis one also)

If I want to drive so much, oh gosh, I should just drive around the block maybe. Man, I feel like playing a shooter, oh wait I cannot enjoy this without doing the real thing.

A Madden competition here huh? HAHA Jokes on you faggots, let\'s just play the real thing because videogames are lame in this videogame website.

Hey buddy dont rule out all possibilities. Wii could proove interesting and much more fun than the examples you mentioned.

RS from comments I ve read showed huge promise. Not the typical game for kids either

Ok, but that Baseball game is a standalone product. It does baseball sim and only that. Of course the consumer was gonna get the videogame console over
that thing instead of the videogame console + the baseball game unit.

Wii is a true single purchase product which provides diversity without having
to choose \'this\' and ignoring \'that\'.

Nerd telling people to get friends on a website about videogames.

Oh boy, in this thread we hate games and should do more real life stuff. Like not playing games and arguing about them instead.

i\'m a realist, by nature

"people seem interested" and "people buying one" are two completely different animals.  most console buyers will test play them in the store before buying one.  only the hardcore and foolish gamers will be lined up overnight at bestbuy to get one.

like i said, joe blow gamer will go into the store, see the wii kiosk and walk right past it.

mm by the same token how many people who don\'t follow games are doing to walk into a store and pay 600$ for something they don\'t really know that much about?

I agree that casual gamers may not be drawn to the Wii at first, but I also think most people will be pushed away by the PS3\'s price, and settle for the Wii.

Wii will do well with the young age groups, nintendo fanboys, and Playstation fans who don\'t have 600$ at launch.

Sony fans are more willing to go along with a cheap nintendo system untill they can afford PS3 then a less cheap xbox system.

PS3 will do great with the most serious gamers who have a lot of money because I think it is the most powerful and also has the most room for improvement as things move a long.... But in terms of growth, Nintendo will have the best results, PS3 will beat xbox but PS3 will still be a "failure" compared to PS1 and PS2.

Well people are initially interested then they buy one. :)

Just wait man. The average Joe might like it who knows? The average Joe kid will certaintly love this. Not to mention many that will also buy a Wii and a PS3/360.

Wii may come third but it doesnt necessarilly mean it will flop

it has PS3 stamped on the side of the box, that\'s more than enough for the average gamer.

10\'s of millions are going to buy it for a blu-ray player alone.  throw in franchises like MGS, GT, FF, etc and it\'s a windfall.

It\'s impossible, Eik. He will never accept that somenoe could prefer it over the PS3. Just like he won\'t accept that game wise, the DS is a superior system..

-shrugs-

I have my concerns about the Wii, but I am ten times more excited about it then the other two systems. I\'ll be goin\' to pre-order it this weekend.

obviously, you\'re not talking about me.

i gave my thoughts on the DS vs PSP argument on many occasions, today included.  check again.

my only concern about the wii is the damned hokey controller.
if i can play every single 1st party title with a normal type controller, then i\'m getting one.
i refuse to wave the thing in the air like a retard when a normal controller has worked perfectly for 30 years.

Hm,  Im having second thoughts about waving around a controller..I like to play games after a hard day of work,  and I dont know if I want to be standing up waving around a controller...I\'d rather be laying back...pushing some buttons.  and NO I\'M NOT FAT. lol  seriously,  I wonder how much fatigue may play a part in sports game on the Wii.  It\'s nice to jump around and wave your arms at a party or gathering,  but causual gaming?...maybe not

Then sit down and point at things on the tv. It\'s a controller not a pull-start chainsaw.

What you just described is like saying you don\'t want to hurt your thumbs and pointer fingers after a hard day\'s work.

Or at least, that\'s my educated assumption. ;]

i can\'t see myself wavin\' this thing around either. as clowd stated maybe something to entertain possibly at a party or some sort of family gathering, but just casual gaming? it\'s not workin\' for me. if nintendo made a conventional controller alongside this wand controller, that would be more viable,..but having that wand controller as thee only controller? nintendo has and always will cater to the younger crowd, and that really works for them, it just doesn\'t work for me..
